High-coherence cavity resonators are excellent resources for encoding quantum information in higher-dimensional Hilbert spaces, moving beyond traditional qubit-based platforms. A natural strategy is to use the Fock basis to encode information in qudits. One can perform quantum operations on the cavity mode qudit by coupling the system to a non-linear ancillary transmon qubit. However, the performance of the cavity-transmon device is limited by the noisy transmons. It is, therefore, important to develop practical benchmarking tools for these qudit systems in an algorithm-agnostic manner. We gauge the performance of these qudit platforms using sampling tests such as the Heavy Output Generation (HOG) test as well as the linear Cross-Entropy Benchmark (XEB), by way of simulations of such a system subject to realistic dominant noise channels. We use selective number-dependent arbitrary phase and unconditional displacement gates as our universal gateset. Our results show that contemporary transmons comfortably enable controlling a few tens of Fock levels of a cavity mode. Quantum Fourier transformations are an essential component of many quantum algorithms, from prime factoring to quantum simulation. While the standard abelian QFT is well-studied, important variants corresponding to \emph{nonabelian} groups of interest have seen less development. In particular, fast nonabelian Fourier transformations are important components for both quantum simulations of field theories as well as approaches to the nonabelian hidden subgroup problem. In this work, we present fast quantum Fourier transformations for a number of nonabelian groups of interest for high energy physics, $\mathbb{BT}$, $\mathbb{BO}$, $\Delta(27)$, $\Delta(54)$, and $\Sigma(36\times3)$. For each group, we derive explicit quantum circuits and estimate resource scaling for fault-tolerant implementations. Observing exoplanets through transmission spectroscopy supplies detailed information on their atmospheric composition, physics, and chemistry. Prior to JWST, these observations were limited to a narrow wavelength range across the near-ultraviolet to near-infrared, alongside broadband photometry at longer wavelengths. To understand more complex properties of exoplanet atmospheres, improved wavelength coverage and resolution are necessary to robustly quantify the influence of a broader range of absorbing molecular species. Here we present a combined analysis of JWST transmission spectroscopy across four different instrumental modes spanning 0.5-5.2 micron using Early Release Science observations of the Saturn-mass exoplanet WASP-39b. Our uniform analysis constrains the orbital and stellar parameters within sub-percent precision, including matching the precision obtained by the most precise asteroseismology measurements of stellar density to-date, and further confirms the presence of Na, K, H$_2$O, CO, CO$_2$, and SO$_2$ atmospheric absorbers. Through this process, we also improve the agreement between the transmission spectra of all modes, except for the NIRSpec PRISM, which is affected by partial saturation of the detector. We provide practical simulation methods for scalar field theories on a quantum computer that yield improved asymptotics as well as concrete gate estimates for the simulation and physical qubit estimates using the surface code. We achieve these improvements through two optimizations. First, we consider a different approach for estimating the elements of the S-matrix. This approach is appropriate in general for 1+1D and for certain low-energy elastic collisions in higher dimensions. Second, we implement our approach using a series of different fault-tolerant simulation algorithms for Hamiltonians formulated both in the field occupation basis and field amplitude basis. Our algorithms are based on either second-order Trotterization or qubitization. The cost of Trotterization in occupation basis scales as $\widetilde{O}(\lambda N^7 |\Omega|^3/(M^{5/2} \epsilon^{3/2})$ where $\lambda$ is the coupling strength, $N$ is the occupation cutoff $|\Omega|$ is the volume of the spatial lattice, $M$ is the mass of the particles and $\epsilon$ is the uncertainty in the energy calculation used for the $S$-matrix determination. Qubitization in the field basis scales as $\widetilde{O}(|\Omega|^2 (k^2 \Lambda +kM^2)/\epsilon)$ where $k$ is the cutoff in the field and $\Lambda$ is a scaled coupling constant. We find in both cases that the bounds suggest physically meaningful simulations can be performed using on the order of $4\times 10^6$ physical qubits and $10^{12}$ $T$-gates which corresponds to roughly one day on a superconducting quantum computer with surface code and a cycle time of 100 ns, placing simulation of scalar field theory within striking distance of the gate counts for the best available chemistry simulation results., Comment: main text, 50 pages, supplementary 64 pages

Quantum computing is one of the most enticing computational paradigms with the potential to revolutionize diverse areas of future-generation computational systems. While quantum computing hardware has advanced rapidly, from tiny laboratory experiments to quantum chips that can outperform even the largest supercomputers on specialized computational tasks, these noisy-intermediate scale quantum (NISQ) processors are still too small and non-robust to be directly useful for any real-world applications. In this paper, we describe NASA's work in assessing and advancing the potential of quantum computing. We discuss advances in algorithms, both near- and longer-term, and the results of our explorations on current hardware as well as with simulations, including illustrating the benefits of algorithm-hardware co-design in the NISQ era. This work also includes physics-inspired classical algorithms that can be used at application scale today. We discuss innovative tools supporting the assessment and advancement of quantum computing and describe improved methods for simulating quantum systems of various types on high-performance computing systems that incorporate realistic error models. We provide an overview of recent methods for benchmarking, evaluating, and characterizing quantum hardware for error mitigation, as well as insights into fundamental quantum physics that can be harnessed for computational purposes., Comment: 27 pages, 0 figures

The Bacon-Shor code is a quantum error correcting subsystem code composed of weight 2 check operators that admits a single logical qubit, and has distance $d$ on a $d \times d$ square lattice. We show that when viewed as a Floquet code, by choosing an appropriate measurement schedule of the check operators, it can additionally host several dynamical logical qubits. Specifically, we identify a period 4 measurement schedule of the check operators that preserves logical information between the instantaneous stabilizer groups. Such a schedule measures not only the usual stabilizers of the Bacon-Shor code, but also additional stabilizers that protect the dynamical logical qubits against errors. We show that the code distance of these Floquet-Bacon-Shor codes scales as $\Theta(d/\sqrt{k})$ on a $d \times d$ lattice with $k$ dynamical logical qubits, along with the logical qubit of the parent subsystem code. The negatively charged nitrogen-vacancy (NV$^{-}$) center in diamond has shown great potential in nanoscale sensing and quantum information processing due to its rich spin physics. An efficient coupling with light, providing strong luminescence, is crucial for realizing these applications. Laser-written waveguides in diamond promote NV$^{-}$ creation and improve their coupling to light but, at the same time, induce strain in the crystal. The induced strain contributes to light guiding but also affects the energy levels of NV$^{-}$ centers. We probe NV$^{-}$ spin states experimentally with the commonly used continuous-wave zero-field optically detected magnetic resonance (ODMR). In our waveguides, the ODMR spectra are shifted, split, and consistently asymmetric, which we attribute to the impact of local strain. To understand these features, we model ensemble ODMR signals in the presence of strain. By fitting the model results to the experimentally collected ODMR data, we determine the strain tensor components at different positions, thus determining the strain profile across the waveguide. This shows that zero-field ODMR spectroscopy can be used as a strain imaging tool. The resulting strain within the waveguide is dominated by a compressive axial component transverse to the waveguide structure, with a smaller contribution from vertical and shear strain components., Comment: 12 pages, 7 figures + Supplementary Information (6 pages, 3 figures)

Two structures of circular lattice Photonic Crystal Fibers (PCFs) based on $Ge_{20}Sb_{15}Se_{65}$ (GSS) material have been proposed for a highly coherent broadband supercontinuum generation (SCG) in the mid-infrared region. Numerical studies on both structures show that the fundamental modes are well confined in the core while the confinement losses are very low. Also, the high nonlinear coefficient of 22.01 $W^{-1}m^{-1}$ and 17.99202 $W^{-1}m^{-1}$ for the two structures ensure that these structures can accomplish a high nonlinear activity. It has been found that broadband supercontinuum (SCs) spanning from 0.45 $\mu$m to 5.3 $\mu$m and 0.48 ${\mu}$m to 6.5 ${\mu}$m can be generated using a hyperbolic secant pulse of 0.5 kW. The proposed structures also show very good structural tolerance to optical properties that prevent any radical shift in SC spectra owing to potential fabrication mismatch., Comment: 17 pages, 10 figures

We develop a hardware-efficient ansatz for variational optimization, derived from existing ansatze in the literature, that parametrizes subsets of all interactions in the Cost Hamiltonian in each layer. We treat gate orderings as a variational parameter and observe that doing so can provide significant performance boosts in experiments. We carried out experimental runs of a compilation-optimized implementation of fully-connected Sherrington-Kirkpatrick Hamiltonians on a 50-qubit linear-chain subsystem of Rigetti Aspen-M-3 transmon processor. Our results indicate that, for the best circuit designs tested, the average performance at optimized angles and gate orderings increases with circuit depth (using more parameters), despite the presence of a high level of noise. We report performance significantly better than using a random guess oracle for circuits involving up to approx 5000 two-qubit and approx 5000 one-qubit native gates. Barium titanate, BaTiO3 (BT), materials have been synthesized by two different routes: one ball-mill-derived (BMD) nanopowder and another precursor-derived (PCD) BT synthesis method were used separately to fabricate BT thin films on stainless steel (SS) and quartz substrates by spin coating. Then thin films from both synthesis routes were characterized by Ultraviolet-Visible-Near Infrared (UV-Vis-NIR) Spectroscopy, Field-Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE-SEM), X-ray Diffractometry (XRD), Raman Spectroscopy, and Four-point collinear probe; all carried out at room temperature. Our studies revealed that the PCD synthesis process did not produce the BT phase even under the 900^0C air-annealing condition. In contrast, a homogeneous BT thin film has been formed from the BMD-BT nanopowder. The optical band gap of BMD-BT thin films was found in the 3.10 - 3.28 eV range. Finally, a Graphene-Barium Titanate-Graphene (G-BT-G) structure was fabricated on a SS substrate by spin coating at processing temperatures below 100^0C and characterized by two different pieces of equipment: a Potentiostat/Galvanostat (PG-STAT) and a Precision Impedance Analyzer (PIA). The G-BT-G structure exhibited a capacitance of 8 nF and 7.15 nF, a highest dielectric constant of 800 and 790, and a low dielectric loss of 4.5 and 5, investigated by PG-STAT and PIA equipment, respectively., Comment: 25 pages, 11 Figures

In this work we study the production of $\Sigma$ and $\Lambda$ hyperons in strangeness changing $\Delta S = -1$ charged current interactions of muon antineutrinos on nuclear targets. At the nucleon level, besides quasielastic scattering we consider the inelastic mechanism in which a pion is produced alongside the hyperon. Its relevance for antineutrinos with energies below 2 GeV is conveyed in integrated and differential cross sections. We observe that the distributions on the angle between the hyperon and the final lepton are clearly different for quasielastic and inelastic processes. Hyperon final state interactions, modeled with an intranuclear cascade, lead to a significant transfer from primary produced $\Sigma$'s into final $\Lambda$'s. They also cause considerable energy loss, which is apparent in hyperon energy distributions. We have investigated $\Lambda$ production off ${}^{40}$Ar in the conditions of the recently reported MicroBooNE measurement. We find that the $\Lambda \pi$ contribution, dominated by $\Sigma^*(1385)$ excitation, accounts for about one third of the cross section., Comment: 13 pages, 5 figures, 1 table, several new references added. Combinatorial optimization is a broadly attractive area for potential quantum advantage, but no quantum algorithm has yet made the leap. Noise in quantum hardware remains a challenge, and more sophisticated quantum-classical algorithms are required to bolster their performance. Here, we introduce an iterative quantum heuristic optimization algorithm to solve combinatorial optimization problems. The quantum algorithm reduces to a classical greedy algorithm in the presence of strong noise. We implement the quantum algorithm on a programmable superconducting quantum system using up to 72 qubits for solving paradigmatic Sherrington-Kirkpatrick Ising spin glass problems. We find the quantum algorithm systematically outperforms its classical greedy counterpart, signaling a quantum enhancement. Moreover, we observe an absolute performance comparable with a state-of-the-art semidefinite programming method. We present Hubble Space Telescope (HST) transit observations of the Hot-Jupiter WASP-79b acquired with the Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (STIS) in the near ultraviolet (NUV). Two transit observations, part of the PanCET program, are used to obtain the transmission spectra of the planet between 2280 and 3070{\AA}. We correct for systematic effects in the raw data using the jitter engineering parameters and polynomial modelling to fit the white light curves of the two transits. We observe an increase in the planet-to-star radius ratio at short wavelengths, but no spectrally resolved absorption lines. The difference between the radius ratios at 2400 and 3000{\AA} reaches $0.0191\pm0.0042$ ($\sim$4.5$-\sigma$). Although the NUV transmission spectrum does not show evidence of hydrodynamical escape, the strong atmospheric features are likely due to species at very high altitudes. We performed a 1D simulation of the temperature and composition of WASP-79b using Exo-REM. The temperature pressure profile crosses condensation curves of radiatively active clouds, particularly MnS, Mg$_2$SiO$_4$, Fe, and Al$_2$O$_3$. Still, none of these species produces the level of observed absorption at short wavelengths and can explain the observed increase in the planet's radius. WASP-79b's transit depth reaches 23 scale height, making it one of the largest spectral features observed in an exoplanet at this temperature ($\sim$1700 K). The comparison of WASP-79b's transmission spectrum with three warmer hot Jupiters shows a similar level of absorption to WASP-178b and WASP-121b between 0.2 and 0.3$\mu$m, while HAT-P-41b's spectrum is flat. A new mechanism has been proposed to simultaneously explain the presence of dark matter and the matter-antimatter asymmetry in the universe. This scenario predicts exotic $B$ meson decays into a baryon and a dark sector anti-baryon ($\psi_D$) with branching fractions accessible at $B$ factories. We present a search for $B \rightarrow \Lambda \psi_D$ decays using data collected by the $BABAR$ experiment at SLAC. This reaction is identified by fully reconstructing the accompanying $B$ meson and requiring the presence of a single $\Lambda$ baryon in the remaining particles. No significant signal is observed, and bounds on the $B \rightarrow \Lambda \psi_D$ branching fraction are derived in the range $0.13 - 5.2\times 10^{-5}$ for $1.0 < m_{\psi_D} < 4.2$ GeV/$c^{2}$. These results set strong constraints on the parameter space allowed by the theory.

Quantum many-body scar states are highly excited eigenstates of many-body systems that exhibit atypical entanglement and correlation properties relative to typical eigenstates at the same energy density. Scar states also give rise to infinitely long-lived coherent dynamics when the system is prepared in a special initial state having finite overlap with them. Many models with exact scar states have been constructed, but the fate of scarred eigenstates and dynamics when these models are perturbed is difficult to study with classical computational techniques. In this work, we propose state preparation protocols that enable the use of quantum computers to study this question. We present protocols both for individual scar states in a particular model, as well as superpositions of them that give rise to coherent dynamics. For superpositions of scar states, we present both a system-size-linear depth unitary and a finite-depth nonunitary state preparation protocol, the latter of which uses measurement and postselection to reduce the circuit depth. For individual scarred eigenstates, we formulate an exact state preparation approach based on matrix product states that yields quasipolynomial-depth circuits, as well as a variational approach with a polynomial-depth ansatz circuit. The critical first step in the search for life on exoplanets over the next decade is to determine whether rocky planets transiting small M-dwarf stars possess atmospheres and, if so, what processes sculpt them over time. Because of its broad wavelength coverage and improved resolution compared to previous methods, spectroscopy with JWST offers a new capability to detect and characterize the atmospheres of Earth-sized, M-dwarf planets. Here we use JWST to independently validate the discovery of LHS 475b, a warm (586 K), 0.99 Earth-radius exoplanet, interior to the habitable zone, and report a precise 2.9-5.3 um transmission spectrum. With two transit observations, we rule out primordial hydrogen-dominated and cloudless pure methane atmospheres. Thus far, the featureless transmission spectrum remains consistent with a planet that has a high-altitude cloud deck (similar to Venus), a tenuous atmosphere (similar to Mars), or no appreciable atmosphere at all (akin to Mercury). There are no signs of stellar contamination due to spots or faculae. Our observations demonstrate that JWST has the requisite sensitivity to constrain the secondary atmospheres of terrestrial exoplanets with absorption features <50 ppm, and that our current atmospheric constraints speak to the nature of the planet itself, rather than instrumental limits., Comment: A co-first author paper Lustig-Yaeger and Fu et al., Nature Astronomy (2023), Comments welcome

Transmission spectroscopy of exoplanets has revealed signatures of water vapor, aerosols, and alkali metals in a few dozen exoplanet atmospheres. However, these previous inferences with the Hubble and Spitzer Space Telescopes were hindered by the observations' relatively narrow wavelength range and spectral resolving power, which precluded the unambiguous identification of other chemical species$-$in particular the primary carbon-bearing molecules. Here we report a broad-wavelength 0.5-5.5 $\mu$m atmospheric transmission spectrum of WASP-39 b, a 1200 K, roughly Saturn-mass, Jupiter-radius exoplanet, measured with JWST NIRSpec's PRISM mode as part of the JWST Transiting Exoplanet Community Early Release Science Team program. We robustly detect multiple chemical species at high significance, including Na (19$\sigma$), H$_2$O (33$\sigma$), CO$_2$ (28$\sigma$), and CO (7$\sigma$). The non-detection of CH$_4$, combined with a strong CO$_2$ feature, favours atmospheric models with a super-solar atmospheric metallicity. An unanticipated absorption feature at 4$\mu$m is best explained by SO$_2$ (2.7$\sigma$), which could be a tracer of atmospheric photochemistry. Hand-held light field cameras suffer from low spatial resolution due to the inherent spatio-angular tradeoff. In this paper, we propose a method to improve the spatial resolution of light field images with the aid of the Texture Transformer Network (TTSR). The proposed method consists of three modules: the first module produces an all-in focus high-resolution perspective image which serves as a reference image for the second module, i.e. TTSR, which in turn produces a high-resolution light field. The last module refines the spatial resolution by imposing a light field prior. In this study, a complete study of the effect of hydrothermal reaction temperatures on the synthesis and physical properties of V2O5 using the green facile mild hydrothermal method has been performed with six different temperatures 100 {\deg}C to 200 {\deg}C, in the step of 20 {\deg}C. . The XRD pattern confirm the stable orthorhombic crystal structure of the synthesized samples at all reaction temperatures. The SEM and TEM images demonstrate the particle-like morphology, and these characterizations affirmed that the particles size became larger with the increase of reaction temperatures. The FTIR analysis is employed to study the functional groups, and the obtained results are consistent with the XRD analysis. The bandgap has been estimated at various reaction temperatures using UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectra (UV-DRS) and was found to be varied 2.09 eV to 2.15 eV that are suitable range to absorb a significant amount of visible light. The photocatalysis of methylene blue (MB) with synthesized samples has been accomplished to investigate photocatalytic efficiency. The pure V2O5 synthesized at lower reaction temperature (100 {\deg}C) possess a lower bandgap and, accordingly, higher photocatalytic efficiency., Comment: 19 pages

Quantum information science harnesses the principles of quantum mechanics to realize computational algorithms with complexities vastly intractable by current computer platforms. Typical applications range from quantum chemistry to optimization problems and also include simulations for high energy physics. The recent maturing of quantum hardware has triggered preliminary explorations by several institutions (including Fermilab) of quantum hardware capable of demonstrating quantum advantage in multiple domains, from quantum computing to communications, to sensing. The Superconducting Quantum Materials and Systems (SQMS) Center, led by Fermilab, is dedicated to providing breakthroughs in quantum computing and sensing, mediating quantum engineering and HEP based material science. The main goal of the Center is to deploy quantum systems with superior performance tailored to the algorithms used in high energy physics. In this Snowmass paper, we discuss the two most promising superconducting quantum architectures for HEP algorithms, i.e. three-level systems (qutrits) supported by transmon devices coupled to planar devices and multi-level systems (qudits with arbitrary N energy levels) supported by superconducting 3D cavities. For each architecture, we demonstrate exemplary HEP algorithms and identify the current challenges, ongoing work and future opportunities. Furthermore, we discuss the prospects and complexities of interconnecting the different architectures and individual computational nodes. Finally, we review several different strategies of error protection and correction and discuss their potential to improve the performance of the two architectures. We use the variational quantum eigensolver (VQE) to simulate Kitaev spin models with and without integrability breaking perturbations, focusing in particular on the honeycomb and square-octagon lattices. These models are well known for being exactly solvable in a certain parameter regime via a mapping to free fermions. We use classical simulations to explore a novel variational ansatz that takes advantage of this fermionic representation and is capable of expressing the exact ground state in the solvable limit. We also demonstrate that this ansatz can be extended beyond this limit to provide excellent accuracy when compared to other VQE approaches. In certain cases, this fermionic representation is advantageous because it reduces by a factor of two the number of qubits required to perform the simulation. We also comment on the implications of our results for simulating non-Abelian anyons on quantum computers.

This paper is concerned with the development and analysis of a mathematical model that is motivated by interstitial hydrodynamics and tissue deformation mechanics (poro-elasto-hydrodynamics) within an in-vitro solid tumor. The classical mixture theory is adopted for mass and momentum balance equations for a two-phase system. A main contribution of this study, we treat the physiological transport parameter (i.e., hydraulic resistivity) as anisotropic and heterogeneous, thus the governing system is strongly coupled and nonlinear. We derived a weak formulation and then formulated the equivalent fixed-point problem. This enabled us to use the Galerkin method, and the classical results on monotone operators combined with the well-known Schauder and Banach fixed point theorems to prove the existence and uniqueness results., Comment: 30 pages, 1 figure

We propose and analyze the theoretical model for a two-stroke quantum heat engine with one of the heat baths replaced by a non-selective quantum measurement. We show that the engine's invariant reference state depends on whether the cycle is monitored or unmonitored via diagnostic measurements to determine the engine's work output. We explore in detail the average work output and fluctuations of the proposed heat engine for the monitored and unmonitored cases. Resonances in optical systems are useful for many applications, such as frequency comb generation, optical filtering, and biosensing. However, many of these applications are difficult to implement in optical metasurfaces because traditional approaches for designing multi-resonant nanostructures require significant computational and fabrication efforts. To address this challenge, we introduce the concept of Fourier lattice resonances (FLRs) in which multiple desired resonances can be chosen a priori and used to dictate the metasurface design. Because each resonance is supported by a distinct surface lattice mode, each can have a high quality factor. Here, we experimentally demonstrate several metasurfaces with arbitrarily placed resonances (e.g., at 1310 and 1550 nm) and Q-factors as high as 800 in a plasmonic platform. This flexible procedure requires only the computation of a single Fourier transform for its design, and is based on standard lithographic fabrication methods, allowing one to design and fabricate a metasurface to fit any specific, optical-cavity-based application. This work represents an important milestone towards the complete control over the transmission spectrum of a metasurface.

Multiresonant metasurfaces could enable many applications in filtering, sensing and nonlinear optics. However, developing a metasurface with more than one high-quality-factor or high-Q resonance at designated resonant wavelengths is challenging. Here, we experimentally demonstrate a plasmonic metasurface exhibiting different, narrow surface lattice resonances by exploiting the polarization degree of freedom where different lattice modes propagate along different dimensions of the lattice. The surface consists of aluminum nanostructures in a rectangular periodic lattice. The resulting surface lattice resonances were measured around 630 nm and 1160 nm with Q-factors of ~50 and ~800, respectively. The latter is a record-high plasmonic Q-factor within the near-infrared type-II window. Such metasurfaces could benefit applications such as frequency conversion and all-optical switching.

Quantum spin systems may offer the first opportunities for beyond-classical quantum computations of scientific interest. While general quantum simulation algorithms likely require error-corrected qubits, there may be applications of scientific interest prior to the practical implementation of quantum error correction. The variational quantum eigensolver (VQE) is a promising approach to finding energy eigenvalues on noisy quantum computers. Lattice models are of broad interest for use on near-term quantum hardware due to the sparsity of the number of Hamiltonian terms and the possibility of matching the lattice geometry to the hardware geometry. Here, we consider the Kitaev spin model on a hardware-native square-octagon qubit connectivity map, and examine the possibility of efficiently probing its rich phase diagram with VQE approaches. By benchmarking different choices of variational Ansatz states and classical optimizers, we illustrate the advantage of a mixed optimization approach using the Hamiltonian variational Ansatz (HVA) and the potential of probing the system's phase diagram using VQE. We discuss the implementation of quantum algorithms for lattice $\Phi^4$ theory on circuit quantum electrodynamics (cQED) system. The field is represented on qudits in a discretized field amplitude basis. The main advantage of qudit systems is that its multi-level characteristic allows the field interaction to be implemented only with diagonal single-qudit gates. We describe the simulation of dihedral gauge theories on digital quantum computers. The nonabelian discrete gauge group $D_N$ -- the dihedral group -- serves as an approximation to $U(1)\times\mathbb{Z}_2$ lattice gauge theory. In order to carry out such a lattice simulation, we detail the construction of efficient quantum circuits to realize basic primitives including the nonabelian Fourier transform over $D_N$, the trace operation, and the group multiplication and inversion operations. For each case the required quantum resources scale linearly or as low-degree polynomials in $n=\log N$. We experimentally benchmark our gates on the Rigetti Aspen-9 quantum processor for the case of $D_4$. The fidelity of all $D_4$ gates was found to exceed $80\%$., Comment: Published version

In this work we study the $\Sigma\pi$ and $\Lambda\pi$ production off free nucleons driven by the strangeness-changing weak charged current. We calculate the total cross sections for all possible channels and estimate the flux-averaged total cross sections for experiments like MiniBooNE, SciBooNE, T2K, and Minerva. The model is based on the lowest order effective SU(3) chiral Lagrangians in the presence of an external weak charged current and contains Born and the lowest-lying decuplet resonant mechanisms that can contribute to these reaction channels. Plasmonic nanostructures hold promise for the realization of ultra-thin sub-wavelength devices, reducing power operating thresholds and enabling nonlinear optical functionality in metasurfaces. However, this promise is substantially undercut by absorption introduced by resistive losses, causing the metasurface community to turn away from plasmonics in favour of alternative material platforms (e.g., dielectrics) that provide weaker field enhancement, but more tolerable losses. Here, we report a plasmonic metasurface with a quality-factor (Q-factor) of 2340 in the telecommunication C band by exploiting surface lattice resonances (SLRs), exceeding the record by an order of magnitude. Additionally, we show that SLRs retain many of the same benefits as localized plasmonic resonances, such as field enhancement and strong confinement of light along the metal surface. Nuclear fusion reactions, at energies, far below the Coulomb barrier play a significant role in the synthesis of light elements in the primordial nucleosynthesis as well as in the interior of compact stellar objects. Many different kinds of nuclear reactions are occurring simultaneously inside the stellar core depending upon the density and temperature conditions of the nuclear plasma along with other relevant parameters of these stars. Nuclear fusion reactions in the energy range ($E\sim$ 1 eV to few keV) can be explained successfully by quantum mechanical tunneling through the mutual Coulomb barrier of interacting nuclei. The measurement of the cross-sections at extremely low energy is quite difficult because of the larger width of the Coulomb barrier, which results in a very small value of the reaction cross-section. Hence, any improvement in the data on astrophysical S-factors for the light nuclei fusion may give a better picture of the elemental abundance in nucleosynthesis. In this work, we have theoretically investigated the energy dependence of fusion cross-sections and astrophysical S-factors for fusion reaction of light nuclei like D-D and p-$^{11}$B using complex Gaussian nuclear potential with adjustable depth and range parameters plus the mutual Coulomb interaction of the interacting nuclei. Numerical computation of the observables is done in the framework of the selective resonant tunneling model approach. The popularity of the online media-driven social network relation is proven in today's digital era. The many challenges that these emergence has created include a huge growing network of social relations, and the large amount of data which is continuously been generated via the different platform of social networking sites, viz. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc. These data are Personally Identifiable Information (PII) of the users which are also publicly available for some platform, and others allow with some restricted permission to download it for research purposes. The users' accessible data help in providing with better recommendation services to users, however, the PII can be used to embezzle the users and cause severe detriment to them. Hence, it is crucial to maintain the users' privacy while providing their PII accessible for various services. Therefore, it is a burning issue to come up with an approach that can help the users in getting better recommendation services without their privacy being harmed. In this paper, a framework is suggested for the same. Further, how data through Twitter API can be crawled and used has been extensively discussed. In addition to this, various security and legal perspectives regarding PII while crawling the data is highlighted. We believe the presented approach in this paper can serve as a benchmark for future research in the field of data privacy.

The need for a comprehensive study to explore various aspects of online social media has been instigated by many researchers. This paper gives an insight into the social platform, Twitter. In this present work, we have illustrated stepwise procedure for crawling the data and discuss the key issues related to extracting associated features that can be useful in Twitter-related research while crawling these data from Application Programming Interfaces (APIs). Further, the data that comprises of over 86 million tweets have been analysed from various perspective including the most used languages, most frequent words, most frequent users, countries with most and least tweets and re-tweets, etc. The analysis reveals that the users' data associated with Twitter has a high affinity for researches in the various domain that includes politics, social science, economics, and linguistics, etc. In addition, the relation between Twitter users of a country and its human development index has been identified. It is observed that countries with very high human development indices have a relatively higher number of tweets compared to low human development indices countries. It is envisaged that the present study shall open many doors of researches in information processing and data science.

In order to assess whether quantum resources can provide an advantage over classical computation, it is necessary to characterize and benchmark the non-classical properties of quantum algorithms in a practical manner. In this paper, we show that using measurements in no more than 3 out of the possible $3^N$ bases, one can not only reconstruct the single-qubit reduced density matrices and measure the ability to create coherent superpositions, but also possibly verify entanglement across all $N$ qubits participating in the algorithm. We introduce a family of generalized Bell-type observables for which we establish an upper bound to the expectation values in fully separable states by proving a generalization of the Cauchy-Schwarz inequality, which may serve of independent interest. We demonstrate that a subset of such observables can serve as entanglement witnesses for QAOA-MaxCut states, and further argue that they are especially well tailored for this purpose by defining and computing an entanglement potency metric on witnesses. A subset of these observables also certify, in a weaker sense, the entanglement in GHZ states, which share the $\mathbb{Z}_2$ symmetry of QAOA-MaxCut. The construction of such witnesses follows directly from the cost Hamiltonian to be optimized, and not through the standard technique of using the projector of the state being certified. It may thus provide insights to construct similar witnesses for other variational algorithms prevalent in the NISQ era. We demonstrate our ideas with proof-of-concept experiments on the Rigetti Aspen-9 chip for ansatze containing up to 24 qubits.

The primary objective of this paper is to present an approach for recommender systems that can assimilate ranking to the voters or rankers so that recommendation can be made by giving priority to experts suggestion over usual recommendation. To accomplish this, we have incorporated the concept of human-centric aggregation via Ordered Weighted Aggregation (OWA). Here, we are advocating ranked recommendation where rankers are assigned weights according to their place in the ranking. Further, the recommendation process which is presented here for the recommendation of books to university students exploits linguistic data summaries and Ordered Weighted Aggregation (OWA) technique. In the suggested approach, the weights are assigned in a way that it associates higher weights to best ranked university. The approach has been evaluated over eight different parameters. The superiority of the proposed approach is evident from the evaluation results. We claim that proposed scheme saves storage spaces required in traditional recommender systems as well as it does not need users prior preferences and hence produce a solution for cold start problem. This envisaged that the proposed scheme can be very useful in decision making problems, especially for recommender systems. In addition, it emphasizes on how human-centric aggregation can be useful in recommendation researches, and also it gives a new direction about how various human specific tasks can be numerically aggregated.

In this paper, a nice theoretical scheme is presented to investigate resonant and bound states in weakly bound nuclear systems by the use of isospectral potentials together with hyperspherical harmonics expansion. In this scheme, a new potential is constructed which is strictly isospectral with the original shallow potential and has properties that are desirable to calculate resonances more accurately and elegantly. The effectiveness of the method has been checked in terms of its application to the $0^+$ resonances in the neutron-rich isotopes $^{18,20}$C in the two-neutron plus core three-body cluster model. The nonlinear optical response of materials is the foundation upon which applications such as frequency conversion, all-optical signal processing, molecular spectroscopy, and nonlinear microscopy are built. However, the utility of all such parametric nonlinear optical processes is hampered by phase-matching requirements. Quasi-phase-matching, birefringent phase matching, and higher-order-mode phase matching have all been developed to address this constraint, but the methods demonstrated to date suffer from the inconvenience of only being phase-matched for a single, specific arrangement of beams, typically co-propagating, resulting in cumbersome experimental configurations and large footprints for integrated devices. Here, we experimentally demonstrate that these phase-matching requirements may be satisfied in a parametric nonlinear optical process for multiple, if not all, configurations of input and output beams when using low-index media. Our measurement constitutes the first experimental observation of direction-independent phase matching for a medium sufficiently long for phase matching concerns to be relevant. We demonstrate four-wave mixing from spectrally distinct co- and counter-propagating pump and probe beams, the backward-generation of a nonlinear signal, and excitation by an out-of-plane probe beam. These results explicitly show that the unique properties of low-index media relax traditional phase-matching constraints, which can be exploited to facilitate nonlinear interactions and miniaturize nonlinear devices, thus adding to the established exceptional properties of low-index materials., Comment: 17 pages, including supplementary information

Assembling future large-scale quantum computers out of smaller, specialized modules promises to simplify a number of formidable science and engineering challenges. One of the primary challenges in developing a modular architecture is in engineering high fidelity, low-latency quantum interconnects between modules. Here we demonstrate a modular solid state architecture with deterministic inter-module coupling between four physically separate, interchangeable superconducting qubit integrated circuits, achieving two-qubit gate fidelities as high as 99.1$\pm0.5$\% and 98.3$\pm$0.3\% for iSWAP and CZ entangling gates, respectively. The quality of the inter-module entanglement is further confirmed by a demonstration of Bell-inequality violation for disjoint pairs of entangled qubits across the four separate silicon dies. Having proven out the fundamental building blocks, this work provides the technological foundations for a modular quantum processor: technology which will accelerate near-term experimental efforts and open up new paths to the fault-tolerant era for solid state qubit architectures., Comment: 9 pages, 8 figures

Automatic image and digit recognition is a computationally challenging task for image processing and pattern recognition, requiring an adequate appreciation of the syntactic and semantic importance of the image for the identification ofthe handwritten digits. Image and Pattern Recognition has been identified as one of the driving forces in the research areas because of its shifting of different types of applications, such as safety frameworks, clinical frameworks, diversion, and so on.In this study, for recognition, we implemented a hybrid neural network model that is capable of recognizing the digit of MNISTdataset and achieved a remarkable result. The proposed neural model network can extract features from the image and recognize the features in the layer by layer. To expand, it is so important for the neural network to recognize how the proposed modelcan work in each layer, how it can generate output, and so on. Besides, it also can recognize the auto-encoding system and the variational auto-encoding system of the MNIST dataset. This study will explore those issues that are discussed above, and the explanation for them, and how this phenomenon can be overcome.

We have improved the tree-level model of Ref arXiv:1004.5484 [hep-ph] for weak production of kaons off nucleons by partially restoring unitarity. This is achieved by imposing Watson's theorem to the dominant vector and axial-vector contributions in appropriate angular momentum and isospin quantum number sectors. After a century of relative stability of the electricity industry, extensive deployment of distributed energy resources and recent advances in computation and communication technologies have changed the nature of how we consume, trade, and apply energy. The power system is facing a transition from its traditional hierarchical structure to a more deregulated model by introducing new energy distribution models such as peer-to-peer sharing for connected communities. The proven effectiveness of P2P sharing in benefiting both prosumers and the grid has been demonstrated in many studies and pilot projects. However, there is still no extensive implementation of such sharing models in today's electricity markets. This paper aims to shed some light on this gap through a comprehensive overview of recent advances in the P2P energy system and an insightful discussion of the challenges that need to be addressed in order to establish P2P sharing as a viable energy management option in today's electricity market. To this end, in this article, we provide some background on different aspects of P2P sharing. Then, we discuss advances in P2P sharing through a systematic domain-based classification. We also review different pilot projects on P2P sharing across the globe. In this paper, we presented the ground state energies calculated for some single and double cascade hyperon(${\Xi}^{-}$) hypernuclei. For hypernuclei of the type $_{\Xi}^{A_c+1}$X we applied $\Xi+^A_c$X two-body model and for hypernuclei of the type $_{\Xi\Xi}^{A_c+2}$X we adopted $\Xi+\Xi+^A_c$X three-body model. A two-term Gaussian (Isle type) potential with adjustable parameters is chosen as the $\Xi$-nucleus interaction, while a two-term Yukawa-type potential has been chosen for the $\Xi\Xi$ pair. In the three-body model calculation, we adopted the hyperspherical harmonics expansion (HHE) formalism. The resulting two- and three-body Schr{\"o}dinger equations subject to appropriate boundary condition's have been solved numerically to get the ground-state energies and wavefunctions. Computed values are in excellent agreement with the observed ones as found in the literature. Analysis of the calculated observables indicates that the hyperons stay close to the core-nucleus. Hypernuclei formed as a result of absorption of one or more $\Xi$-hyperon(s) by a normal nucleus (bound or unbound) are found to have more stability than those formed as a result of absorption of one or more $\Lambda$ hyperon(s) by the same nucleus. This fact flashes towards the possibility of the existence of a valley of strange hypernuclei near the drip lines., Comment: 15 pages, 7 figures

Heat generated by spin currents in spintronics-based devices is typically much less than that generated by charge current flows in conventional electronic devices. However, the conventional approaches for excitation of spin currents based on spin-pumping and spin Hall effect are limited in efficiency which restricts their application for viable spintronic devices. We propose a novel type of photonic-crystal (PC) based structures for efficient and tunable optically-induced spin current generation via the Spin Seebeck and inverse spin Hall effects. It is experimentally demonstrated that optical surface modes localized at the PC surface covered by ferromagnetic layer and materials with giant spin-orbit coupling (SOC) notably increase the efficiency of the optically-induced spin current generation and provides its tunability by modifying light wavelength or angle of incidence. Up to 100% of the incident light power can be transferred to heat within the SOC layer and, therefore, to spin current. Importantly, high efficiency becomes accessible even for ultra-thin SOC layers. Moreover, surface patterning of the PC-based spintronic nanostructure allows local generation of spin currents at the pattern scales rather than diameter of the laser beam.

We show that photoluminescence properties of PbS nanocrystal thin films are directly related to film morphology and nanocrystal density. In densely packed PbS nanocrystal films, low-temperature donor-to-acceptor energy transfer is mainly responsible for the photoluminescence spectra narrowing and shift toward longer wavelengths. At elevated temperatures, back energy transfer is proposed to be responsible for an unusual photoluminescence intensity temperature dependence. In thin films with a low PbS nanocrystal density, the energy transfer is suppressed, and the effect is dramatically reduced., Comment: (8 pages, 7 figures)

Motion planning is a key element of robotics since it empowers a robot to navigate autonomously. Particle Swarm Optimization is a simple, yet a very powerful optimization technique which has been effectively used in many complex multi-dimensional optimization problems. This paper proposes a path planning algorithm based on particle swarm optimization for computing a shortest collision-free path for a mobile robot in environments populated with static convex obstacles. The proposed algorithm finds the optimal path by performing random sampling on grid lines generated between the robot start and goal positions. Functionality of the proposed algorithm is illustrated via simulation results for different scenarios.

Data on businesses collected by statistical agencies are challenging to protect. Many businesses have unique characteristics, and distributions of employment, sales, and profits are highly skewed. Attackers wishing to conduct identification attacks often have access to much more information than for any individual. As a consequence, most disclosure avoidance mechanisms fail to strike an acceptable balance between usefulness and confidentiality protection. Detailed aggregate statistics by geography or detailed industry classes are rare, public-use microdata on businesses are virtually inexistant, and access to confidential microdata can be burdensome. Synthetic microdata have been proposed as a secure mechanism to publish microdata, as part of a broader discussion of how to provide broader access to such data sets to researchers. In this article, we document an experiment to create analytically valid synthetic data, using the exact same model and methods previously employed for the United States, for data from two different countries: Canada (LEAP) and Germany (BHP). We assess utility and protection, and provide an assessment of the feasibility of extending such an approach in a cost-effective way to other data.

Plasmonic metasurfaces are promising as enablers of nanoscale nonlinear optics and flat nonlinear optical components. Nonlinear optical responses of such metasurfaces are determined by the nonlinear optical properties of individual nanostructured plasmonic meta-atoms, which are the building blocks of the metasurfaces. Unfortunately, no simple methods exist to determine the nonlinear coefficients (hyperpolarizabilities) of the meta-atoms hindering designing of nonlinear metasurfaces. Here, we develop the equivalent RLC circuit model of such meta-atoms to estimate their second-order nonlinear optical parameter i.e. the first-order hyperpolarizability in the optical spectral range. In parallel, we extract from second-harmonic generation experiments the spectrum of the 1st-order hyperpolarizabilities of individual meta-atoms consisting of asymmetrically shaped (elongated) plasmonic nanoprisms. Moreover, we verify our results using nonlinear hydrodynamic-FDTD and with calculations based on nonlinear scattering theory. All three approaches: analytical, experimental, and computational, yield results that agree very well. Our empirical RLC model can thus be used as a simple tool to enable efficient design of nonlinear plasmonic metasurfaces.

The mobile relaying technique is a critical enhancing technology in wireless communications due to a higher chance of supporting the remote user from the base station (BS) with better quality of service. This paper investigates energy-efficient (EE) mobile relaying networks, mounted on an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), while the unknown adversaries try to intercept the legitimate link. We aim to optimize robust transmit power both UAV and BS along, relay hovering path, speed, and acceleration. The BS sends legitimate information, which is forwarded to the user by the relay. This procedure is defined as information-causality-constraint (ICC). We jointly optimize the worst case secrecy rate (WCSR) and UAV propulsion energy consumption (PEC) for a finite time horizon. We construct the BS-UAV, the UAV-user, and the UAV-adversary channel models. We apply the UAV PEC considering UAV speed and acceleration. At last, we derive EE UAV relay-user maximization problem in the adversarial wireless networks. While the problem is non-convex, we propose an iterative and sub-optimal algorithm to optimize EE UAV relay with constraints, such as ICC, trajectory, speed, acceleration, and transmit power. First, we optimize both BS and UAV transmit power, and hovering speed for known UAV path planning and acceleration. Using the optimal transmit power and speed, we obtain the optimal trajectory and acceleration. Optical materials with vanishing dielectric permittivity, known as epsilon-near-zero (ENZ) materials, have been shown to possess enhanced nonlinear optical responses in their ENZ region. These strong nonlinear optical properties have been firmly established in homogeneous materials; however, it is as of yet unclear whether metamaterials with effective optical parameters can exhibit a similar enhancement. Here, we probe an optical ENZ metamaterial composed of a subwavelength periodic stack of alternating Ag and SiO$_2$ layers and measure a nonlinear refractive index $n_2 = (1.2 \pm 0.1) \times 10^{-12}$ m$^2$/W and nonlinear absorption coefficient $\beta = (-1.5 \pm 0.2) \times 10^{-5}$ m/W at its effective zero-permittivity wavelength. The measured $n_2$ is $10^7$ times larger than $n_2$ of fused silica and four times larger than that the $n_2$ of silver. We observe that the nonlinear enhancement in $n_2$ scales as $1/(n_0 \mathrm{Re}[n_0])$, where $n_0$ is the linear effective refractive index. As opposed to homogeneous ENZ materials, whose optical properties are dictated by their intrinsic material properties and hence are not widely tunable, the zero-permittivity wavelength of the demonstrated metamaterials may be chosen to lie anywhere within the visible spectrum by selecting the right thicknesses of the sub-wavelength layers. We report on a precision measurement of the ratio ${\cal R}_{\tau\mu}^{\Upsilon(3S)} = {\cal B}(\Upsilon(3S)\to\tau^+\tau^-)/{\cal B}(\Upsilon(3S)\to\mu^+\mu^-)$ using data collected with the BaBar detector at the SLAC PEP-II $e^+e^-$ collider. The measurement is based on a 28 fb$^{-1}$ data sample collected at a center-of-mass energy of 10.355 GeV corresponding to a sample of 122 million $\Upsilon(3S)$ mesons. The ratio is measured to be ${\cal R}_{\tau\mu}^{\Upsilon(3S)} = 0.966 \pm 0.008_\mathrm{stat} \pm 0.014_\mathrm{syst}$ and is in agreement with the Standard Model prediction of 0.9948 within 2 standard deviations. The uncertainty in ${\cal R}_{\tau\mu}^{\Upsilon(3S)}$ is almost an order of magnitude smaller than the only previous measurement., Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures, 3 tables
