This paper presents the global analysis of two extended decreases of the galactic cosmic ray intensity observed by world-wide networks of ground-based detectors in 2012. This analysis is capable of separately deriving the cosmic ray density (or omnidirectional intensity) and anisotropy each as a function of time and rigidity. A simple diffusion model along the spiral field line between Earth and a cosmic-ray barrier indicates the long duration of these events resulting from about 190$^\circ$ eastern extension of a barrier such as an IP-shock followed by the sheath region and/or the corotating interaction region (CIR). It is suggested that the coronal mass ejection merging and compressing the preexisting CIR at its flank can produce such the extended barrier. The derived rigidity spectra of the density and anisotropy both vary in time during each event period. In particular we find that the temporal feature of the ``phantom Forbush decrease'' reported in an analyzed period is dependent on rigidity, looking quite different at different rigidities. From these rigidity spectra of the density and anisotropy, we derive the rigidity spectrum of the average parallel mean-free-path of pitch angle scattering along the spiral field line and infer the power spectrum of the magnetic fluctuation and its temporal variation. Possible physical cause of the strong rigidity dependence of the ``phantom Forbush decrease'' is also discussed. We define a Hodge-theoretical refinement of the Lyubeznik numbers for local rings of complex algebraic varieties. We prove that these numbers are independent of the choices made in their definition and that, for the local ring of an isolated singularity, they can be expressed in terms of the Hodge numbers of the cohomology of the link of the singularity. We give examples of isolated singularities with the same Lyubeznik numbers but different Hodge-Lyubeznik numbers.

The variational method is used to study the hard confinement of a two-particle quantum system in two potential models, the Cornell potential and the global potential, with Dirichlet-type boundary conditions at various cut-off radii. The trial wavefunction is constructed as the product of the $1S$ free hydrogen atom wavefunction or $1S$ free harmonic oscillator wavefunction times a cut-off function of the form $(r-z)$ to ensure hard entrapment within a sphere of radius $z$. The behavior of $|\psi|^2$, the wavefunction at the origin (WFO), and the mean radius $\ev{r}$ are computed for different situations and compared for the two potential models.

One of the most crucial and lethal characteristics of solid tumors is represented by the increased ability of cancer cells to migrate and invade other organs during the so-called metastatic spread. This is allowed thanks to the production of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), enzymes capable of degrading a type of collagen abundant in the basal membrane separating the epithelial tissue from the connective one. In this work, we employ a synergistic experimental and mathematical modelling approach to explore the invasion process of tumor cells. A athematical model composed of reaction-diffusion equations describing the evolution of the tumor cells density on a gelatin substrate, MMPs enzymes concentration and the degradation of the gelatin is proposed. This is completed with a calibration strategy. We perform a sensitivity analysis and explore a parameter estimation technique both on synthetic and experimental data in order to find the optimal parameters that describe the in vitro experiments. A comparison between numerical and experimental solutions ends the work.

After making correct, and then improving, our definition of the category of irregular mixed Hodge modules thanks to Mochizuki's recent results arXiv:2108.03843, we show how these results allow us to obtain Kodaira-Saito-type vanishing theorems for the irregular Hodge filtration of irregular mixed Hodge modules., Comment: 27 pages

This text surveys cohomological properties of pairs $(U,f)$ consisting of a smooth complex quasi-projective variety $U$ together with a regular function on~it. On the one hand, one tries to mimic the case of a germ of holomorphic function in its Milnor ball and, on the other hand, one takes advantage of the algebraicity of~$U$ and $f$ to apply technique of algebraic geometry, in particular Hodge theory. The monodromy properties are expressed by means of tools provided by the theory of linear differential equations, by mimicking the Stokes phenomenon. In the case of tame functions on smooth affine varieties, which is an algebraic analogue of that of a holomorphic function with an isolated critical point, the theory simplifies much and the formulation of the results are nicer. The adoption of cloud computing has brought significant advancements in the operational models of businesses. However, this shift also brings new security challenges by expanding the attack surface. The offered services in cloud computing have various service models. Each cloud service model has a defined responsibility divided based on the stack layers between the service user and their cloud provider. Regardless of its service model, each service is constructed from sub-components and services running on the underlying layers. In this paper, we aim to enable more transparency and visibility by designing an ontology that links the provider's services with the sub-components used to deliver the service. Such breakdown for each cloud service sub-components enables the end user to track the vulnerabilities on the service level or one of its sub-components. Such information can result in a better understanding and management of reported vulnerabilities on the sub-components level and their impact on the offered services by the cloud provider. As mobile and smart connectivity continue to grow, malware presents a permanently evolving threat to different types of critical domains such as health, logistics, banking, and community segments. Different types of malware have dynamic behaviors and complicated characteristics that are shared among members of the same malware family. Malware threat intelligence reports play a crucial role in describing and documenting the detected malware, providing a wealth of information regarding its attributes, patterns, and behaviors. There is a large amount of intelligent threat information regarding malware. The ontology allows the systematic organization and categorization of this information to ensure consistency in representing concepts and entities across various sources. In this study, we reviewed and extended an existing malware ontology to cover Android malware. Our extended ontology is called AndMalOnt. It consisted of 13 new classes, 16 object properties, and 31 data properties. Second, we created an Android malware knowledge graph by extracting reports from the MalwareBazaar repository and representing them in AndMalOnt. This involved generating a knowledge graph that encompasses over 2600 malware samples. Our ontology, knowledge graph, and source code are all open-source and accessible via GitHub

We report the flexible on-target delivery of 800 nm wavelength, 5 GW peak power, 40 fs duration laser pulses through an evacuated and tightly coiled 10 m long hollow-core nested anti-resonant fiber by positively chirping the input pulses to compensate for the anomalous dispersion of the fiber. Near-transform-limited output pulses with high beam quality and a guided peak intensity of 3 PW/cm2 were achieved by suppressing plasma effects in the residual gas by pre-pumping the fiber after evacuation. This appears to cause a long-term removal of molecules from the fiber core. Identifying the fluence at the fiber core-wall interface as the damage origin, we scaled the coupled energy to 2.1 mJ using a short piece of larger-core fiber to obtain 20 GW at the fiber output. This scheme can pave the way towards the integration of anti-resonant fibers in mJ-level nonlinear optical experiments and laser-source development.

We experimentally and numerically investigate flat supercontinuum generation in gas-filled anti-resonant guiding hollow-core photonic crystal fiber. By comparing results obtained with either argon or nitrogen we determine the role of the rotational Raman response on the supercontinuum formation. When using argon, a supercontinuum extending from 350 nm to 2 {\mu}m is generated through modulational instability. Although argon and nitrogen exhibit similar Kerr nonlinearity and dispersion, we find that the energy density of the continuum in the normal dispersion region is significantly lower when using nitrogen. Using numerical simulations, we find that due to the closely spaced rotational lines in nitrogen, gain suppression in the fundamental mode causes part of the pump pulse to be coupled into higher-order modes which reduces the energy transfer to wavelengths shorter than the pump.

Online retailers often offer a vast choice of products to their customers to filter and browse through. The order in which the products are listed depends on the ranking algorithm employed in the online shop. State-of-the-art ranking methods are complex and draw on many different information, e.g., user query and intent, product attributes, popularity, recency, reviews, or purchases. However, approaches that incorporate user-generated data such as click-through data, user ratings, or reviews disadvantage new products that have not yet been rated by customers. We therefore propose the User-Needs-Driven Ranking (UNDR) method that accounts for explicit customer needs by using facet popularity and facet value popularity. As a user-centered approach that does not rely on post-purchase ratings or reviews, our method bypasses the cold-start problem while still reflecting the needs of an average customer. In two preliminary user studies, we compare our ranking method with a rating-based ranking baseline. Our findings show that our proposed approach generates a ranking that fits current customer needs significantly better than the baseline. However, a more fine-grained usage-specific ranking did not further improve the ranking.

Glucose is a primary energy source for cancer cells. Several lines of evidence support the idea that monocarboxylate transporters, such as MCT1, elicit metabolic reprogramming of cancer cells in glucose-poor environments, allowing them to reuse lactate, a byproduct of glucose metabolism, as an alternative energy source with serious consequences for disease progression. We employ a synergistic experimental and mathematical modelling approach to explore the evolutionary processes at the root of cancer cell adaptation to glucose deprivation, with particular focus on the mechanisms underlying the increase in MCT1 expression observed in glucose-deprived aggressive cancer cells. Data from in vitro experiments on breast cancer cells are used to inform and calibrate a mathematical model that comprises a partial integro-differential equation for the dynamics of a population of cancer cells structured by the level of MCT1 expression. Analytical and numerical results of this model suggest that environment-induced changes in MCT1 expression mediated by lactate-associated signalling pathways enable a prompt adaptive response of glucose-deprived cancer cells, whilst fluctuations in MCT1 expression due to epigenetic changes create the substrate for environmental selection to act upon, speeding up the selective sweep underlying cancer cell adaptation to glucose deprivation, and may constitute a long-term bet-hedging mechanism., Comment: Main manuscript: 14 pages, 4 figures. We investigate soliton self-compression and photoionization effects in an argon-filled antiresonant hollow-core photonic crystal fiber pumped with a commercial Yb:KGW laser. Before the onset of photoionization, we demonstrate self-compression of our 220~fs pump laser to 13~fs in a single and compact stage. By using the plasma driven soliton self-frequency blueshift, we also demonstrate a tuneable source from 1030 to ~700 nm. We fully characterize the compressed pulses using sum-frequency generation time-domain ptychography, experimentally revealing the full time-frequency plasma-soliton dynamics in hollow-core fibre for the first time.

We analyze the cosmic-ray variations during a significant Forbush decrease observed with world-wide networks of ground-based neutron monitors and muon detectors during November 3-5, 2021. Utilizing the difference between primary cosmic-ray rigidities monitored by neutron monitors and muon detectors, we deduce the rigidity spectra of the cosmic-ray density (or omnidirectional intensity) and the first- and second-order anisotropies separately, for each hour of data. A clear two-step decrease is seen in the cosmic-ray density with the first $\sim2\%$ decrease after the interplanetary shock arrival followed by the second $\sim5\%$ decrease inside the magnetic flux rope (MFR) at 15 GV. Most strikingly, a large bidirectional streaming along the magnetic field is observed in the MFR with a peak amplitude of $\sim5\%$ at 15 GV which is comparable to the total density decrease inside the MFR. The bidirectional streaming could be explained by adiabatic deceleration and/or focusing in the expanding MFR, which have stronger effects for pitch angles near 90$^\circ$, or by selective entry of GCRs along a leg of the MFR. The peak anisotropy and density depression in the flux rope both decrease with increasing rigidity. The spectra vary dynamically indicating that the temporal variations of density and anisotropy appear different in neutron monitor and muon detector data., Comment: Accepted for publication in the Astrophysical Journal

Buckminsterfullerene, C60 , is the largest molecule observed to date in interstellar and circumstellar environments. The mechanism of formation of this molecule is actively debated. Despite targeted searches in primitive carbonaceous chondrites, no unambiguous detection of C60 in a meteorite has been reported to date. Here we report the first firm detection of fullerenes, from C30 to at least C100 , in the Almahata Sitta (AhS) polymict ureilite meteorite. This detection was achieved using highly sensitive laser desorption laser ionization mass spectrometry. Fullerenes have been unambiguously detected in seven clasts of AhS ureilites. Molecular family analysis shows that fullerenes are from a different reservoir compared to the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons detected in the same samples. The fullerene family correlates best with carbon clusters, some of which may have been formed by the destruction of solid carbon phases by the impacting laser. We show that the detected fullerenes are not formed in this way. We suggest that fullerenes are an intrinsic component of a specific carbon phase that has yet to be identified. The nondetection of fullerenes in the Murchison and Allende bulk samples, while using the same experimental conditions, suggests that this phase is absent or less abundant in these primitive chondrites. The former case would support the formation of fullerenes by shock-wave processing of carbonaceous phases in the ureilite parent body. However, there are no experimental data to support this scenario. This leaves open the possibility that fullerenes are an interstellar heritage and a messenger of interstellar processes.

We analyze the behavior of polarized complex variations of Hodge structure on the punctured unit disk. For integral variations of Hodge structure, this analysis was first carried out by Wilfried Schmid. We get rid of the assumption that the eigenvalues of the monodromy transformation are roots of unity. In this generality, we give new (and, we think, more conceptual) proofs for all the major results in Schmid's paper, such as the estimates for the rate of growth of the Hodge norm; the existence of a limiting mixed Hodge structure; the nilpotent orbit theorem; and a simplified (but still sufficiently powerful) version of the SL(2)-orbit theorem., Comment: 118 pages. We consider the complex analogues of symmetric power moments of cubic exponential sums. These are symmetric powers of the classical Airy differential equation. We show that their de Rham cohomologies underlie an arithmetic Hodge structure in the sense of Anderson and we compute their Hodge numbers by means of the irregular Hodge filtration, which is indexed by rational numbers, on their realizations as exponential mixed Hodge structures. The June 2, 2018, impact of asteroid 2018 LA over Botswana is only the second asteroid detected in space prior to impacting over land. Here, we report on the successful recovery of meteorites. Additional astrometric data refine the approach orbit and define the spin period and shape of the asteroid. Video observations of the fireball constrain the asteroid's position in its orbit and were used to triangulate the location of the fireball's main flare over the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. 23 meteorites were recovered. A consortium study of eight of these classifies Motopi Pan as a HED polymict breccia derived from howardite, cumulate and basaltic eucrite, and diogenite lithologies. Before impact, 2018 LA was a solid rock of about 156 cm diameter with high bulk density about 2.85 g/cm3, a relatively low albedo pV about 0.25, no significant opposition effect on the asteroid brightness, and an impact kinetic energy of about 0.2 kt. The orbit of 2018 LA is consistent with an origin at Vesta (or its Vestoids) and delivery into an Earth-impacting orbit via the nu_6 resonance. The impact that ejected 2018 LA in an orbit towards Earth occurred 22.8 +/- 3.8 Ma ago. Zircons record a concordant U-Pb age of 4563 +/- 11 Ma and a consistent 207Pb/206Pb age of 4563 +/- 6 Ma. A much younger Pb-Pb phosphate resetting age of 4234 +/- 41 Ma was found. Laboratory experiments are essential in exploring the mechanisms involved in stardust formation. One key question is how a metal is incorporated into dust for an environment rich in elements involved in stardust formation (C, H, O, Si). To address experimentally this question we have used a radiofrequency cold plasma reactor in which cyclic organosilicon dust formation is observed. Metallic (silver) atoms were injected in the plasma during the dust nucleation phase to study their incorporation in the dust. The experiments show formation of silver nanoparticles (~15 nm) under conditions in which organosilicon dust of size 200 nm or less is grown. The presence of AgSiO bonds, revealed by infrared spectroscopy, suggests the presence of junctions between the metallic nanoparticles and the organosilicon dust. Even after annealing we could not conclude on the formation of silver silicates, emphasizing that most of silver is included in the metallic nanoparticles. The molecular analysis performed by laser mass spectrometry exhibits a complex chemistry leading to a variety of molecules including large hydrocarbons and organometallic species. The reactivity of silver atoms/ions with acetylene was also studied in a laser vaporization source. Key organometallic species, AgnC2Hm (n=1-3; m=0-2), were identified and their structures and energetic data computed using density functional theory. This allows us to propose that molecular Ag-C seeds promote the formation of Ag clusters but also catalyze hydrocarbon growth. Throughout the article, we show how the developed methodology can be used to characterize the incorporation of metal atoms both in the molecular and dust phases. We demonstrate that global observations of high-energy cosmic rays contribute to understanding unique characteristics of a large-scale magnetic flux rope causing a magnetic storm in August 2018. Following a weak interplanetary shock on 25 August 2018, a magnetic flux rope caused an unexpectedly large geomagnetic storm. It is likely that this event became geoeffective because the flux rope was accompanied by a corotating interaction region and compressed by high-speed solar wind following the flux rope. In fact, a Forbush decrease was observed in cosmic-ray data inside the flux rope as expected, and a significant cosmic-ray density increase exceeding the unmodulated level before the shock was also observed near the trailing edge of the flux rope. The cosmic-ray density increase can be interpreted in terms of the adiabatic heating of cosmic rays near the trailing edge of the flux rope, as the corotating interaction region prevents free expansion of the flux rope and results in the compression near the trailing edge. A northeast-directed spatial gradient in the cosmic-ray density was also derived during the cosmic-ray density increase, suggesting that the center of the heating near the trailing edge is located northeast of Earth. This is one of the best examples demonstrating that the observation of high-energy cosmic rays provides us with information that can only be derived from the cosmic ray measurements to observationally constrain the three-dimensional macroscopic picture of the interaction between coronal mass ejections and the ambient solar wind, which is essential for prediction of large magnetic storms., Comment: 19 pages, 3 figures, accepted for publication in the Space Weather

We extend to the category of relative regular holonomic modules on a manifold $X$, parametrized by a curve $S$, the Hermitian duality functor (or conjugation functor) of Kashiwara. Motivated by the computation of certain Feynman amplitudes, Broadhurst and Roberts recently conjectured and checked numerically to high precision a set of remarkable quadratic relations between the Bessel moments \[ \int_0^\infty I_0(t)^i K_0(t)^{k-i}t^{2j-1}\,\mathrm{d}t \qquad (i, j=1, \ldots, \lfloor (k-1)/2\rfloor), \] where $k \geq 1$ is a fixed integer and $I_0$ and $K_0$ denote the modified Bessel functions. In this paper, we interpret these integrals and variants thereof as coefficients of the period pairing between middle de Rham cohomology and twisted homology of symmetric powers of the Kloosterman connection. Building on the general framework developed in arXiv:2005.11525, this enables us to prove quadratic relations of the form suggested by Broadhurst and Roberts, which conjecturally comprise all algebraic relations between these numbers. We prove the existence of quadratic relations between periods of meromorphic flat bundles on complex manifolds with poles along a divisor with normal crossings under the assumption of "goodness". Interstellar carbonaceous dust is mainly formed in the innermost regions of circumstellar envelopes around carbon-rich asymptotic giant branch (AGB) stars. In these highly chemically stratified regions, atomic and diatomic carbon, along with acetylene are the most abundant species after H$_2$ and CO. In a previous study, we addressed the chemistry of carbon (C and C$_2$) with H$_2$ showing that acetylene and aliphatic species form efficiently in the dust formation region of carbon-rich AGBs whereas aromatics do not. Still, acetylene is known to be a key ingredient in the formation of linear polyacetylenic chains, benzene and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), as shown by previous experiments. However, these experiments have not considered the chemistry of carbon (C and C$_2$) with C$_2$H$_2$. In this work, by employing a sufficient amount of acetylene, we investigate its gas-phase interaction with atomic and diatomic carbon. We show that the chemistry involved produces linear polyacetylenic chains, benzene and other PAHs, which are observed with high abundances in the early evolutionary phase of planetary nebulae. More importantly, we have found a non-negligible amount of pure and hydrogenated carbon clusters as well as aromatics with aliphatic substitutions, both being a direct consequence of the addition of atomic carbon. The incorporation of alkyl substituents into aromatics can be rationalized by a mechanism involving hydrogen abstraction followed by methyl addition. All the species detected in gas phase are incorporated into the nanometric sized dust analogues, which consist of a complex mixture of sp, sp$^2$ and sp$^3$ hydrocarbons with amorphous morphology.

As a part of interstellar dust, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are processed by the interaction with vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) photons that are emitted by hot young stars. This interaction leads to the emission of the well-known aromatic infrared bands but also of electrons, which can significantly contribute to the heating of the interstellar gas.Our aim is to investigate the impact of molecular size on the photoionization properties of cationic PAHs.Methods. Trapped PAH cations of sizes between 30 and 48 carbon atoms were submitted to VUV photons in the range of 9 to 20 eV from the DESIRS beamline at the synchrotron SOLEIL. All resulting photoproducts including dications and fragment cations were mass-analyzed and recorded as a function of photon energy.Photoionization is found to be predominant over dissociation at all energies, which differs from an earlier study on smaller PAHs. The photoionization branching ratio reaches 0.98 at 20 eV for the largest studied PAH. The photoionization threshold is observed to be between 9.1 and 10.2 eV, in agreement with the evolution of the ionization potential with size. Ionization cross sections were indirectly obtained and photoionization yields extracted from their ratio with theoretical photoabsorption cross sections, which were calculated using time-dependent density functional theory. An analytical function was derived to calculate this yield for a given molecular size.Large PAH cations could be efficiently ionized in H i regions and provide a contribution to the heating of the gas by photoelectric effect. Also, at the border of or in H ii regions, PAHs could be exposed to photons of energy higher than 13.6 eV. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are key species in astrophysical environments in which vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) photons are present, such as star-forming regions. The interaction with these VUV photons governs the physical and chemical evolution of PAHs. Models show that only large species can survive. However, the actual molecular properties of large PAHs are poorly characterized and the ones included in models are only an extrapolation of the properties of small and medium-sized species. We discuss here experiments performed on trapped ions including some at the SOLEIL VUV beam line DESIRS. We focus on the case of the large dicoronylene cation, C48H20+ , and compare its behavior under VUV processing with that of smaller species. We suggest that C2H2 is not a relevant channel in the fragmentation of large PAHs. Ionization is found to largely dominate fragmentation. In addition, we report evidence for a hydrogen dissociation channel through excited electronic states. Although this channel is minor, it is already effective below 13.6 eV and can significantly influence the stability of astro-PAHs. We emphasize that the competition between ionization and dissociation in large PAHs should be further evaluated for their use in astrophysical models.

Cosmic rays are charged particles whose flux observed at Earth shows temporal variations related to space weather phenomena and may be an important tool to study them. The cosmic ray intensity recorded with ground-based detectors also shows temporal variations arising from atmospheric variations. In the case of muon detectors, the main atmospheric effects are related to pressure and temperature changes. In this work, we analyze both effects using data recorded by the Global Muon Detector Network (GMDN), consisting of four multidirectional muon detectors at different locations, in the period between 2007 and 2016. For each GMDN directional channel, we obtain coefficients that describe the pressure and temperature effects. We then analyze how these coefficients can be related to the geomagnetic cutoff rigidity and zenith angle associated with cosmic-ray particles observed by each channel. In the pressure effect analysis, we found that the observed barometric coefficients show a very clear logarithmic correlation with the cutoff rigidity divided by the zenith angle cosine. On the other hand, the temperature coefficients show a good logarithmic correlation with the product of the cutoff and zenith angle cosine after adding a term proportional to the sine of geographical latitude of the observation site. This additional term implies that the temperature effect measured in the northern hemisphere detectors is stronger than that observed in the southern hemisphere. The physical origin of this term and of the good correlations found in this analysis should be studied in detail in future works.

We construct a logarithmic model of connections on smooth quasi-projective $n$-dimensional geometrically irreducible varieties defined over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $0$. It consists of a good compactification of the variety together with $(n+1)$ lattices on it which are stabilized by log differential operators, and compute algebraically de Rham cohomology. The construction is derived from the existence of good Deligne-Malgrange lattices, a theorem of Kedlaya and Mochizuki which consists first in eliminating the turning points. Moreover, we show that a logarithmic model obtained in this way, called a good model, yields a formula predicted by Michael Groechenig, computing the class of the characteristic variety of the underlying D-module in the $K$-theory group of the variety., Comment: 24 pages. Three-dimensional cultures of cells are gaining popularity as an in vitro improvement over 2D Petri dishes. In many such experiments, cells have been found to organize in aggregates. We present new results of three-dimensional in vitro cultures of breast cancer cells exhibiting patterns. Understanding their formation is of particular interest in the context of cancer since metastases have been shown to be created by cells moving in clusters. In this paper, we propose that the main mechanism which leads to the emergence of patterns is chemotaxis, i.e., oriented movement of cells towards high concentration zones of a signal emitted by the cells themselves. Studying a Keller-Segel PDE system to model chemotactical auto-organization of cells, we prove that it is subject to Turing instability under a time-dependent condition. This result is illustrated by two-dimensional simulations of the model showing spheroidal patterns. They are qualitatively compared to the biological results and their variability is discussed both theoretically and numerically.

We construct motives over the rational numbers associated with symmetric power moments of Kloosterman sums, and prove that their L-functions extend meromorphically to the complex plane and satisfy a functional equation conjectured by Broadhurst and Roberts. Although the motives in question turn out to be "classical", we compute their Hodge numbers by means of the irregular Hodge filtration on their realizations as exponential mixed Hodge structures. We propose nonlinear Dirac equations where the conformal degree of the self-interaction terms are equal to that of the Dirac operator and the coupling parameters are dimensionless. As such, the massless equation is conformally invariant and preserves the conformal degree for both the linear and nonlinear components. We analyze the short cosmic ray intensity increase ("cosmic ray burst": CRB) on June 22, 2015 utilizing a global network of muon detectors and derive the global anisotropy of cosmic ray intensity and the density (i.e. the omnidirectional intensity) with 10-minute time resolution. We find that the CRB was caused by a local density maximum and an enhanced anisotropy of cosmic rays both of which appeared in association with Earth's crossing of the heliospheric current sheet (HCS). This enhanced anisotropy was normal to the HCS and consistent with a diamagnetic drift arising from the spatial gradient of cosmic ray density, which indicates that cosmic rays were drifting along the HCS from the north of Earth. We also find a significant anisotropy along the HCS, lasting a few hours after the HCS crossing, indicating that cosmic rays penetrated into the inner heliosphere along the HCS. Based on the latest geomagnetic field model, we quantitatively evaluate the reduction of the geomagnetic cut-off rigidity and the variation of the asymptotic viewing direction of cosmic rays due to a major geomagnetic storm which occurred during the CRB and conclude that the CRB is not caused by the geomagnetic storm, but by a rapid change in the cosmic ray anisotropy and density outside the magnetosphere., Comment: accepted for the publication in the Astrophysical Journal

We developed a new analytical experimental setup called AROMA (Astrochemistry Research of Organics with Molecular Analyzer) that combines laser desorption/ionization techniques with ion trap mass spectrometry. We report here on the ability of the apparatus to detect aromatic species in complex materials of astrophysical interests and characterize their structures. A limit of detection of 100 femto-grams has been achieved using pure polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) samples, which corresponds to 2x10^8 molecules in the case of coronene (C24H12). We detected the PAH distribution in the Murchison meteorite, which is made of a complex mixture of extraterrestrial organic compounds. In addition, collision induced dissociation experiments were performed on selected species detected in Murchison, which led to the first firm identification of pyrene and its methylated derivatives in this sample., Comment: 17 pages, 6 figures, one table, accepted for publication in ApJ

We analyze the galactic cosmic ray (GCR) density and its spatial gradient in Forbush Decreases (FDs) observed with the Global Muon Detector Network (GMDN) and neutron monitors (NMs). By superposing the GCR density and density gradient observed in FDs following 45 interplanetary shocks (IP-shocks), each associated with an identified eruption on the sun, we infer the average spatial distribution of GCRs behind IP-shocks. We find two distinct modulations of GCR density in FDs, one in the magnetic sheath and the other in the coronal mass ejection (CME) behind the sheath. The density modulation in the sheath is dominant in the western flank of the shock, while the modulation in the CME ejecta stands out in the eastern flank. This east-west asymmetry is more prominent in GMDN data responding to $\sim$ 60 GV GCRs than in NM data responding to $\sim$ 10 GV GCRs, because of softer rigidity spectrum of the modulation in the CME ejecta than in the sheath. The GSE-y component of the density gradient, $G_y$ shows a negative (positive) enhancement in FDs caused by the eastern (western) eruptions, while $G_z$ shows a negative (positive) enhancement in FDs by the northern (southern) eruptions. This implies the GCR density minimum being located behind the central flank of IP-shock and propagating radially outward from location of the solar eruption. Interstellar polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are strongly affected by the absorption of vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) photons in the interstellar medium (ISM), yet the branching ratio between ionization and fragmentation is poorly studied. This is crucial for the stability and charge state of PAHs in the ISM in different environments, affecting in turn the chemistry, the energy balance, and the contribution of PAHs to the extinction and emission curves. We studied the interaction of PAH cations with VUV photons in the 7-20 eV range from the synchrotron SOLEIL beamline, DESIRS. We recorded by action spectroscopy the relative intensities of photo-fragmentation and photo-ionization for a set of eight PAH cations ranging in size from 14 to 24 carbon atoms, with different structures. At photon energies below ~13.6 eV fragmentation dominates for the smaller species, while for larger species ionization is immediately competitive after the second ionization potential (IP). At higher photon energies, all species behave similarly, the ionization yield gradually increases, leveling off between 0.8 and 0.9 at ~18 eV. Among isomers, PAH structure appears to mainly affect the fragmentation cross section, but not the ionization cross section. We also measured the second IP for all species and the third IP for two of them, all are in good agreement with theoretical ones confirming that PAH cations can be further ionized in the diffuse ISM. Determining actual PAH dication abundances in the ISM will require detailed modeling. Our measured photo-ionization yields for several PAH cations provide a necessary ingredient for such models.

We introduce a category of possibly irregular holonomic D-modules which can be endowed in a canonical way with an irregular Hodge filtration. Mixed Hodge modules with their Hodge filtration naturally belong to this category, as well as their twist by $\exp\varphi$ for any meromorphic function $\varphi$. This category is stable by various standard functors, which produce many more filtered objects. The irregular Hodge filtration satisfies the $E_1$-degeneration property by a projective morphism. This generalizes some results proved by Esnault-Sabbah-Yu arxiv:1302.4537 and Sabbah-Yu arxiv:1406.1339. We also show that those rigid irreducible holonomic D-modules on the complex projective line whose local formal monodromies have eigenvalues of absolute value one, are equipped with such an irregular Hodge filtration in a canonical way, up to a shift of the filtration. In a chapter written jointly with Jeng-Daw~Yu, we make explicit the case of irregular mixed Hodge structures, for which we prove in particular a Thom-Sebastiani formula., Comment: V3: 69 pages.
