In this note we provide a direct approach to the most basic operator in this theory namely the exterior derivative. The crucial ingredient is a calculus lemma based on determinants. We maintain the view that in a first course at least this direct approach is preferable to the more abstract one based on characterization of the exterior derivative in terms of its properties.

Many versions of the Stokes theorem are known. More advanced of them require complicated mathematical machinery to be formulated which discourages the users. Our theorem is sufficiently simple to suit the handbooks and yet it is pretty general, as we assume the differential form to be continuous on a compact set F(A) and C1 "inside" while F(A) is built of "bricks" and its inner part is a C1 manifold. There is no problem of orientability and the integrals under consideration are convergent. The purpose of this paper is to define the r-th Tachibana number t(r) of an n-dimentional closed and oriented Riemannian manifold (M,g) as the dimension of the space of all conformal Killing r-forms for r=1,2,...,n-1 and to formulate some properties of these numbers as an analogue to properties of the r-th Betty number b(r) of a closed and oriented Riemannian manifold.

A simple but rigorous proof of the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus is given in geometric calculus, after the basis for this theory in geometric algebra has been explained. Various classical examples of this theorem, such as the Green's and Stokes' theorem are discussed, as well as the new theory of monogenic functions, which generalizes the concept of an analytic function of a complex variable to higher dimensions., Comment: 11 pages, 2 figures

We prove a version of the Stokes formula for differential forms on locally convex spaces. The main tool used for proving this formula is the surface layer theorem proved in another paper by the author. Moreover, for differential forms of a Sobolev-type class relative to a differentiable measure, we compute the operator adjoint to the exterior differential in terms of standard operations of calculus of differential forms and the logarithmic derivative. Previously, this connection was established under essentially stronger assumptions.

The theory of the last multipliers as solutions of the Liouville's transport equation, previously developed for vector fields, is extended here to general multivectors. Characterizations in terms of Witten and Marsden differentials are reobtained as well as the algebraic structure of the set of multivectors with a common last multiplier, namely Gerstenhaber algebra. Applications to Poisson bivectors are presented by obtaining that last multipliers count for ''how far away'' is a Poisson structure from being exact with respect to a given volume form. In the context of generalized geometry we first show how the Courant bracket helps to define connections with skew torsion and then investigate a five-dimensional invariant functional and its associated geometry. We give a combinatorial description (including explicit differential-form bases) for the cohomology groups of the space of n distinct nonzero complex numbers, with coefficients in rank-one local systems which are of finite monodromy around the coordinate hyperplanes and trivial monodromy around all other hyperplanes. In the case where the local system is equivariant for the symmetric group, we write the cohomology groups as direct sums of inductions of one-dimensional characters of subgroups. This relies on an equivariant description of the Orlik-Solomon algebras of full monomial reflection groups (wreath products of the symmetric group with a cyclic group). In this paper we determine a number of meaningful compositions of higher order of a set of functions, which is considered in Malesevic (1998), in implicit and explicit form. Results which are obtained are applied to the vector analysis in order to determine the number of meaningful differential operations of higher order.

A notion of the radial index of an isolated singular point of a 1-form on a singular (real or complex) variety is discussed. For the differential of a function it is related to the Euler characteristic of the Milnor fibre of the function. A connection between the radial index and the local Euler obstruction of a 1-form is described. This gives an expression for the local Euler obstruction of the differential of a function in terms of Euler characteristics of some Milnor fibres.

The aim of this paper is to present a short introduction to supergeometry on pure odd supermanifolds. (Pseudo)differential forms, Cartan calculus (DeRham differential, Lie derivative, "inner" product), metric, inner product, Killing's vector fields, Hodge star operator, integral forms, co-differential and connection on odd Riemannian supermanifolds are introduced. The electrodynamics and Einstein relativity with anti-commuting variables only are formulated modifying the geometry beyond classical (even, bosonic) theories appropriately. Extension of these ideas to general supermanifolds is straightforward. We investigate (pseudo)differential forms in the framework of supergeometry. Definitions, basic properties and Cartan calculus (DeRham differential, Lie derivative, inner product, Hodge operator) are presented; the symplectic supermechanics (even and odd) is formulated; and the question of quantization is discussed. In this article we study constrained variational problems in one independent variable defined on the space of integral curves of a Frenet system in a homogeneous space G/H. We prove that if the Lagrangian is G-invariant and coisotropic then the extremal curves can be found by quadratures. Our proof is constructive and relies on the reduction theory for coisotropic optimal control problems. This gives a unified explanation of the integrability of several classical variational problems such as the total squared curvature functional, the projective, conformal and pseudo-conformal arc-length functionals, the Delaunay and the Poincar{\'e} variational problems.

This is a draft of a textbook on differential forms. The primary target audience is sophmore level undergraduates enrolled in what would traditionally be a course in vector calculus. Later chapters will be of interest to advaced undergraduate and beginning graduate students. We define a nondegenerate Monge-Amp\`ere structure on a 6-dimensional manifold as a pair $(\Omega,\omega)$, such that $\Omega$ is a symplectic form and $\omega$ is a 3-differential form which satisfies $\omega\wedge\Omega=0$ and which is nondegenerate in the sense of Hitchin. We associate with such a pair a generalized almost (pseudo) Calabi-Yau structure and we study its integrability from the point of view of Monge-Amp\`ere operators theory. The result we prove appears as an analogue of Lychagin and Roubtsov theorem on integrability of the almost complex or almost product structure associated with an elliptic or hyperbolic Monge-Amp\`ere equation in the dimension 4. For certain problems involving vector fields, it is possible to find an associated imaginary field that, in conjunction with the first, forms a complex field for which the equation can be solved. This result is generalized to arbitrary Clifford algebras, followed by quaternionic vectors as a special case. All results are shown to reduce to the established method of complexifying vector fields. For simplicity, differential forms are used rather than vector notation., Comment: 5 pages

Let $\Gamma_X$ denote the space of all locally finite configurations in a complete, stochastically complete, connected, oriented Riemannian manifold $X$, whose volume measure $m$ is infinite. In this paper, we construct and study spaces $L^2_\mu\Omega^n$ of differential $n$-forms over $\Gamma_X$ that are square integrable with respect to a probability measure $\mu$ on $\Gamma_X$. The measure $\mu$ is supposed to satisfy the condition $\Sigma_m'$ (generalized Mecke identity) well known in the theory of point processes. On $L^2_\mu\Omega^n$, we introduce bilinear forms of Bochner and deRham type. We prove their closabilty and call the generators of the corresponding closures the Bochner and deRham Laplacian, respectively. We prove that both operators contain in their domain the set of all smooth local forms. We show that, under a rather general assumption on the measure $\mu$, the space of all Bochner-harmonic $\mu$-square integrable forms on $\Gamma_X$ consists only of the zero form. Finally, a Weitzenb\"ock type formula connecting the Bochner and deRham Laplacians is obtained. As examples, we consider (mixed) Poisson measures, Ruelle type measures on $\Gamma_{{\Bbb R}^d}$, and Gibbs measures in the low activity--high temperature regime, as well as Gibbs measures with a positive interaction potential on $\Gamma_X$., Comment: 43 pages

One knows that the large time heat decay exponent on a nilpotent group is given by half the growing rate of the volume of its large balls. This work deals with the similar problem of trying to interpret geometrically the heat decay on (one) forms. Suppose M is a noncompact connected smooth 2-manifold without boundary and let D(M)_0 denote the identity component of the diffeomorphism group of M with the compact-open C^infty-topology. In this paper we investigate the topological type of D(M)_0 and show that D(M)_0 is a topological ell_2-manifold and it has the homotopy type of the circle if M is the plane, the open annulus or the open M"obius band, and it is contractible in all other cases. When M admits a volume form w, we also discuss the topological type of the group of w-preserving diffeomorphisms of M. We extend to a scheme-theoretic context the notion of a combinatorial differential form, due to A.Kock in the framework of synthetic differential geometry. We show that group-valued combinatorial forms on a scheme may be identified, under very general hypotheses, with traditional Lie algebra-valued differential forms, and that their Lie algebra structure can be recovered from first principles. In the paper we prove a factorization theorem for representations of fundamental groups of compact K\"{a}hler manifolds ({\em K\"{a}hler groups}) into solvable matrix groups. We apply this result to prove that the universal covering of a compact K\"{a}hler manifold with a residually solvable fundamental group is holomorphically convex.
