Abstract
The article presents labour market risk assessment for South Africa. It says trade union movement has been weakened and the incidence of strikes has declined. It expects union power to decline further, while divisions over policy direction will serve to isolate Cosatu, the main union umbrella organisation. The impact of HIV/AIDS epidemic on the market is discussed, as well as the legal and public relations difficulties suffered by firms without a black empowerment strategy.
