Abstract

The article highlights an international expert consultation on the status of chikungunya disease given its recent, emergence in the Americas. The meeting was held on June 30-July 2, 2015 in Rockville, Maryland with the objective of reviewing the present knowledge on chikungunya, assesings the epidemic risk across the Americas and identifying critical gaps in knowledge. It summarizes the main messages, conclusions and recommendations such as the creation of a bank of reference sera.
