We consider a massless Dirac field in $1+1$ dimensions, and compute the Tomita-Takesaki modular conjugation corresponding to the vacuum state and a generic multicomponent spacetime region. We do it by analytic continuation from the modular flow, which was computed recently. We use our result to discuss the validity of Haag duality in this model., Comment: 20 pages, 10 figures

We study the solutions to the Dirac equation for the massive spinor field in the universal covering space of two-dimensional anti-de Sitter space. For certain values of the mass parameter, we impose a suitable set of boundary conditions which make the spatial component of the Dirac operator self-adjoint. Then, we use the transformation properties of the spinor field under the isometry group of the theory, namely, the universal covering group of $\mathrm{SL}(2,\mathbb{R})$, in order to determine which self-adjoint boundary conditions are invariant under this group. We identify the corresponding solution spaces with unitary irreducible representations of this group using the classification given by Pukanzki, and determine which of these correspond to invariant positive- and negative-frequency subspaces and, hence, in a vacuum state invariant under the isometry group. Finally, we examine the cases where the self-adjoint boundary condition leads to an invariant theory with non-invariant vacuum state and determine the unitary representation to which the vacuum state belongs.

We study non-interacting automorphic quantum scalar fields with positive mass in two-dimensional de Sitter space. We find that there are no Hadamard states which are de Sitter invariant except in the periodic case, extending the result of Epstein and Moschella for the anti-periodic case. We construct the two-point Wightman functions for the non-Hadamard de Sitter-invariant states by exploiting the fact that they are functions of the geodesic distance between the two points satisfying an ordinary differential equation. We then examine a certain Hadamard state, which is not de Sitter invariant, and show that it is approximately a thermal state with the Gibbons-Hawking temperature when restricted to a static region of the spacetime., Comment: 33 pages, 2 figures, published version

We compute the R\'enyi entropies of the massless Dirac field on the Euclidean torus (the Lorentzian cylinder at non-zero temperature) for arbitrary spatial regions. We do it by the resolvent method, i.e., we express the entropies in terms of the resolvent of a certain operator and then use the explicit form of that resolvent, which was obtained recently. Our results are different in appearance from those already existing in the literature (obtained via the replica trick), but they agree perfectly, as we show numerically for non-integer order and analytically for integer order. We also compute the R\'enyi mutual information, and find that, for appropriate choices of the parameters, it is non-positive and non-monotonic. This behavior is expected, but it cannot be seen with the simplest known R\'enyi entropies in quantum field theory because they are proportional to the entanglement entropy., Comment: 11 pages, 8 figures

For certain values of the mass parameter, we impose a suitable set of boundary conditions which make the spatial component of the Klein-Gordon operator self-adjoint. This makes the time-evolution of the classical field well defined. Then, we use the transformation properties of the scalar field under the isometry group of the theory, namely, the universal covering group of $\mathrm{SL}(2,\mathbb{R})$, in order to determine which self-adjoint boundary conditions are invariant under this group, and which lead to the positive-frequency solutions forming a unitary representation of this group and, hence, to a vacuum state invariant under this group. Then we examine the cases where the boundary condition leads to an invariant theory with non-invariant vacuum state and determine the unitary representation to which the vacuum state belongs.

In this article, we describe the PyCloudIoT cloud infrastructure. PyCloudIoT uses a FaaS cloud computing model for offloading numerical computations on a cluster with resource-constrained nodes rather than powerful datacenter. This infrastructure aims at exploiting unused resources of IoT nodes - already deployed at the edge of the network - to reduce latency of user requests. We give an explicit correspondence between the domains of the self-adjoint extensions of a one-dimensional Schr\"odinger differential operator with symmetric real-valued potential and the boundary conditions the functions in the resulting domains must satisfy. As is well known, each self-adjoint extension is parametrized by a unitary matrix. We make the correspondence of this unitary matrix with the boundary conditions explicit, recovering the most familiar types of boundary conditions as special cases. We also demonstrate this correspondence implicitly for non-symmetric real-valued potential.

Rindler positivity is a property that holds in any relativistic Quantum Field Theory and implies an infinite set of inequalities involving the exponential of the R\'enyi mutual information $I_n(A_i,\bar{A}_j)$ between $A_i$ and $\bar{A}_j$, where $A_i$ is a spacelike region in the right Rindler wedge and $\bar{A}_j$ is the wedge reflection of $A_j$. We explore these inequalities in order to get local inequalities for $I_n(A,\bar{A})$ as a function of the distance between $A$ and its mirror region $\bar{A}$. We show that the assumption, based on the cluster property of the vacuum, that $I_n$ goes to zero when the distance goes to infinity, implies the more stringent and simple condition that $F_n\equiv{e}^{(n-1)I_n}$ should be a completely monotonic function of the distance, meaning that all the even (odd) derivatives are non-negative (non-positive). In the case of a CFT in 1+1 dimensions, we show that conformal invariance implies stronger conditions, including a sort of monotonicity of the R\'enyi mutual information for pairs of intervals. An application of these inequalities to obtain constraints for the OPE coefficients of the $4-$point function of certain twist operators is also discussed., Comment: 16 pages, 4 figures

In this paper we present the detailed calculation of a new modular Hamiltonian, namely that of a chiral fermion on a circle at non-zero temperature. We provide explicit results for an arbitrary collection of intervals, which we discuss at length by checking against known results in different limits and by computing the associated modular flow. We also compute the entanglement entropy, and we obtain a simple expression for it which appears to be more manageable than those already existing in the literature., Comment: 29 pages, 11 figures. v2: a few comments and references added. We consider a chiral fermion at non-zero temperature on a circle (i.e., on a torus in the Euclidean formalism) and compute the modular Hamiltonian corresponding to a subregion of the circle. We do this by a very simple procedure based on the method of images, which is presumably generalizable to other situations. Our result is non-local even for a single interval, and even for Neveu-Schwarz boundary conditions. We explore several aspects of the relation between gravity and entanglement in the context of AdS/CFT, in the simple setting of 3 bulk dimensions. Specifically, we consider small perturbations of the AdS metric and the CFT vacuum state and study what can be learnt about the metric perturbation from the Ryu-Takayanagi (RT) formula alone. It is well-known that, if the RT formula holds for all boundary spacelike segments, then the metric perturbation satisfies the linearized Einstein equations throughout the bulk. We generalize this result by showing that, if the RT formula holds for all spacelike segments contained in a certain boundary region, then the metric perturbation satisfies the linearized Einstein equations in a corresponding bulk region (in fact, it is completely determined in that region). We also argue that the same is true for small perturbations of the planar BTZ black hole and the CFT thermal state. We discuss the relation between our results and the ideas of subregion-subregion duality, and we point out that our argument also serves as a holographic proof of the linearized RT formula for boundary segments., Comment: 18 pages, 5 figures. We obtain new constraints for the modular energy of general states by using the monotonicity property of relative entropy. In some cases, modular energy can be related to the energy density of states and these constraints lead to interesting relations between energy and entropy. In particular, we derive new quantum energy inequalities that improve some previous bounds for the energy density of states in a conformal field theory. Additionally, the inequalities derived in this manner also lead us to conclude that the entropy of the state further restricts the possible amount of negative energy allowed by the theory., Comment: 23 pages, 9 figures
