This paper explores the process of vacuum decay in supersymmetric models related to flux compactifications. In particular, we describe these instabilities within supersymmetric Lagrangians for a single three-form multiplet. This multiplet combines scalar fields, representing the moduli fields in four dimensions, with 3-form fields that influence the potential for these moduli via the integer flux of their associated 4-form field strength. Furthermore, using supersymmetry as a guide we obtain the form of the couplings of these fields to the membranes that act as sources to the 3-form potentials. Adding small supersymmetry breaking terms to these Lagrangians one can obtain instanton solutions describing the decay of the vacua in these models by the formation of a membrane bubble. These instantons combine the usual Coleman-de Luccia and the Brown-Teitelboim formalisms in a single unified model. We study simple numerical examples of theories with and without gravity in this new framework and generalize known Euclidean methods to accomodate the simulataneous inclusion of scalar fields and charged membranes to these instanton solutions. Moreover, we show explicitly in these examples how one recovers the static supersymmetric solutions in the limiting case where the supersymmetry breaking terms vanish. In this limit, the bubble becomes infinite and flat and represents a hybrid between the usual supersymmetric domain walls of field theory models and the brane solutions interpolating between the supersymmetric vacua; a sort of dressed supermembrane BPS solution. Finally, we briefly comment on the implications of these solutions in cosmological models based on the String Theory Landscape where these type of 4d effective theories could be relevant in inflationary scenarios., Comment: 33 pages + appendices, 23 figures

We study the invariance of N=1,d=4 supergravity solutions under diffeormophisms and show that, in order to obtain consistent conditions (``Killing equations'') invariant under local supersymmetry transformations, one has to perform supersymmetry transformations generated by the superpartner of the vector that generates standard diffeomorphisms, just as a superspace analysis indicates. Using these transformations, we construct a Noether-Wald charge of N=1,d=4 supergravity with fermionic contributions which is diff- Lorentz- and supersymmetry-invariant (up to a total derivative)., Comment: Title changed to represent betterthe content. The Hamiltonian formulation for nonlinear chiral 2-form electrodynamics in six-dimensional Minkowski spacetime is used to show that small-amplitude plane-wave perturbations of a generic uniform constant `magnetic' background exhibit trirefringence: all three independent wave-polarisations have distinct dispersion relations. While two coincide for Lorentz invariant theories, all three coincide uniquely for the chiral 2-form theory on the worldvolume of the M5-brane of M-theory. We argue that this is because, in this M-theory context, the waves propagate in a planar M5-M2-M2 bound-state preserving 16 supersymmetries. We also show how our results imply analogous results for nonlinear electrodynamics in a Minkowski spacetime of five and four dimensions., Comment: 14 pages, v4 includes minor clarifications to v3

High Energy Physics - Theory - Abstract
We review a geometrical, so called superembedding, approach to the description of the dynamics of point-like and extended supersymmetric objects (superbranes) in String Theory. The approach is based on a supersymmetric extension of the classical surface theory to the description of superbrane dynamics by means of embedding worldvolume supersurfaces into target superspaces. Lorentz harmonics, twistors and pure spinors are its intrinsic ingredients. Main new results obtained with this approach include the following ones. Being manifestly doubly supersymmetric (on the worldvolume and in target superspace) the superembedding approach explained that the local fermionic kappa-symmetry of the Green-Schwarz-like superbrane actions originates from the conventional local supersymmetry of the worldvolume. It established or clarified a classical relationship between various formulations of the dynamics of superparticles and superstrings, such as the Neveu-Schwarz-Ramond and the Green-Schwarz formulation. The full set of the equations of motion of the M-theory five-brane was first derived with the use of this approach., Comment: 61 page; v2: typos corrected, references added. We study the properties of 10D multiple D0-brane (mD0) system described by recently proposed complete supersymmetric and $\kappa$-symmetric nonlinear action which includes an arbitrary positive definite function ${\cal M}({\cal H})$ of the relative motion Hamiltonian ${\cal H}$. First we show how the action with a particular nonlinear ${\cal M}({\cal H})$ can be obtained from the action for 11D multiple M-wave (multiple M0-brane or mM0) system. Then we obtain the complete set of equations of motion of mD0 system with arbitrary positive definite ${\cal M}({\cal H})$, perform a convenient gauge fixing, solve the center of energy equations and establish an interesting correspondence between the relative motion mD0 equations and the equations of maximal supersymmetric SU(N) Yang-Mills theory (SYM). We show that this correspondence does not imply a gauge equivalence but establishes a relation between solutions of the system. In particular, it implies that all the supersymmetric solutions of mD0 equations in its relative motion part coincide with supersymmetric solutions of the SYM equations., Comment: 25 pages, revtex4-2. We present a complete nonlinear action for the dynamical system of nearly coincident multiple D$0$-branes (mD$0$) which possesses, besides manifest spacetime (target superspace) supersymmetry, also the worldline supersymmetry, a counterpart of the local fermionic $\kappa$-symmetry of single D$0$-brane (Dirichlet superparticle). The action contains an arbitrary non-vanishing function ${\cal M}({\cal H})$ of the relative motion Hamiltonian ${\cal H}$. The $D=10$ mD$0$ model with particular form of ${\cal M}({\cal H})$ can be obtained by dimensional reduction from the action of eleven-dimensional ($D=11$) multiple M-wave (mM$0$) system., Comment: 5 pages, revtex4. High Energy Physics - Theory - Abstract
Found is the complete nonlinear action of multiple D$0$-brane system (mD$0$) in three dimensional type II superspace which is invariant under rigid $D=3$ ${\cal N}=2$ spacetime supersymmetry and under local worldline supersymmetry generalizing the $\kappa-$symmetry of single D$0$-brane action. We show that a particular representative of this family of actions can be obtained by dimensional reduction of the action of $D=4$ non-Abelian multiwaves (nAmW), the $D=4$ counterpart of 11D multiple M-wave (mM0) action, that we have also constructed in this paper. This reduction results in an action with is nonlinear due to the presence of a certain function ${\cal M}({\cal H})$ of the relative motion Hamiltonian ${\cal H}$, the counterpart of which enters the 4D nAmW action linearly. Curiously, the action possesses double supersymmetry also for an arbitrary function ${\cal M}({\cal H})$. In particular for ${\cal M}=\text{const}$ we find a dynamical system describing the sum of single D$0$ action and the action of 1d dimensional reduction of the $D=3$ ${\cal N}=2$ SYM coupled to the worldline supergravity induced by the embedding of the center of energy motion into the $D=3$ ${\cal N}=2$ superspace., Comment: JHEP style, 37 pages. We give a prescription for N=1 supersymmetrization of any (four-dimensional) nonlinear electrodynamics theory with a Lagrangian density satisfying a convexity condition that we relate to semi-classical unitarity. We apply it to the one-parameter ModMax extension of Maxwell electrodynamics that preserves both electromagnetic duality and conformal invariance, and its Born-Infeld-like generalization, proving that duality invariance is preserved. We also establish superconformal invariance of the superModMax theory by showing that its coupling to supergravity is super-Weyl invariant. The higher-derivative photino-field interactions that appear in any supersymmetric nonlinear electrodynamics theory are removed by an invertible nonlinear superfield redefinition., Comment: 36 pp. v3 includes further minor corrections and clarifications

High Energy Physics - Theory - Abstract
Relations between the various formulations of nonlinear p-form electrodynamics with conformal-invariant weak-field and strong-field limits are clarified, with a focus on duality invariant (2n-1)-form electrodynamics and chiral 2n-form electrodynamics in Minkowski spacetime of dimension D=4n and D=4n+2, respectively. We exhibit a new family of chiral 2-form electrodynamics in D=6 for which these limits exhaust the possibilities for conformal invariance; the weak-field limit is related by dimensional reduction to the recently discovered ModMax generalisation of Maxwell's equations. For n>1 we show that the chiral `strong-field' 2n-form electrodynamics is related by dimensional reduction to a new Sl(2;R)-duality invariant theory of (2n-1)-form electrodynamics., Comment: 46 pp. Minor corrections plus Note Added with additional references in v2

All nonlinear extensions of the source-free Maxwell equations preserving both SO(2) electromagnetic duality invariance and conformal invariance are found, and shown to be limits of a one-parameter generalisation of Born-Infeld electrodynamics. The strong-field limit is the same as that found by Bialynicki-Birula from Born-Infeld theory but the weak-field limit is a new one-parameter extension of Maxwell electrodynamics, which is interacting but admits exact light-velocity plane-wave solutions of arbitrary polarisation. Small-amplitude waves on a constant uniform electromagnetic background exhibit birefringence, but one polarisation mode remains lightlike., Comment: 5 pages. v2 includes many simplifications and additional references, and additional material on birefringence

High Energy Physics - Theory - Abstract
We review main features of the pure $\mathcal N=1$, $D=4$ SYM and its effective description by the Veneziano-Yankielowicz generalized sigma-model. We then indicate that the construction of BPS domain walls interpolating between different SYM vacua requires the presence of a dynamical membrane source. We will show how such a membrane is coupled to the SYM and present the explicit form of BPS domain walls which it creates in the Veneziano-Yankielowicz effective theory. In particular, we will describe 1/2 BPS domain wall configurations with $|k|\leq N/3$, where $k$ is the membrane charge that sets the "distance" between two distinct SUSY vacua., Comment: 14 pages, 6 figures. We revisited the formalism of 11D polarized scattering equation by Geyer and Mason from the perspective of spinor frame approach and spinor moving frame formulation of the 11D ambitwistor superstring action. In particular, we rigorously obtain the equation for the spinor function on Riemann sphere from the supertwistor form of the ambitwistor superstring action, write its general solution and use it to derive the polarized scattering equation. We show that the expression used by Geyer and Mason to motivate their ansatz for the solution of polarized scattering equation can be obtained from our solution after a suitable gauge fixing. To this end we use the hidden gauge symmetries of the 11D ambitwistor superstring, including $SO(16)$, and the description of ambitwistor superstring as a dynamical system in an 11D superspace enlarged by bosonic directions parametrized by 517 tensorial central charge coordinates $Z^{\underline{\mu} \underline{\nu}}$ and $Z^{\underline{\mu}\underline{\nu}\underline{\rho}\underline{\sigma}\underline{\kappa}}$. We have also found the fermionic superpartner of the polarized scattering equation. This happens to be a differential equation in fermionic variables imposed on the superamplitude, rather then just a condition on the scattering data as the bosonic polarized scattering equation is. D=10 case is also discussed stressing the similarities and differences with 11D systems. The useful formulation of 10D ambitwistor superstring considers it as a dynamical system in superspace enlarged with 126 tensorial central charge coordinates $Z^{\mu\nu\rho\sigma\kappa}$., Comment: 1+41 pages, no figures. We present the complete supersymmetric and $\kappa$--symmetric action for the 4-dimensional interacting system of open supermembrane, dynamical supergravity and 3--form matter multiplets. The cases of a single 3-form matter multiplet and a quite generic model with a number of nonlinear interacting double 3-form multiplets are considered. In all cases the fermionic parameter of the $\kappa$-symmetry is subject to two apparently different projection conditions which suggests that the ground state of the system, in particular a domain junction, might preserve at most 1/4 of the spacetime supersymmetry. The boundary term of the open supermembrane action, needed to preserve the $\kappa$-symmetry, has the meaning of the action of a superstring. The Wess--Zumino term of this superstring action is expressed in terms of real linear superfield playing the role of St\"uckelberg field for the 3--form gauge symmetry. This indicates that this symmetry is broken spontaneously by the superstring at the boundary of supermembrane., Comment: 26 pages, no figures. V2: some comments and references added. High Energy Physics - Theory - Abstract
We construct a manifestly supersymmetric and kappa-symmetry invariant worldvolume action describing the coupling of a dynamical membrane to an $\mathcal N=1$, $D=4$ $SU(N)$ super-Yang-Mills multiplet. Worldvolume scalar fields in this action are a Goldstone and a Goldstino associated with spontaneous breaking, by the membrane, of half of $\mathcal N=1$, $D=4$ supersymmetry. When the Goldstone fields are set to zero, the model reduces to an $\mathcal N=1$, $d=3$ $SU(N)$ Chern-Simons theory induced by the SYM coupling. We show that, when the membrane couples to the Veneziano-Yankielowicz (VY) effective theory of the $\mathcal N=1$ SYM, it sources VY bulk field equations, separates two distinct SYM vacua and provides the missing contribution to the tension of BPS saturated domain-wall configurations, for which the membrane serves as a core. As a result, we obtain explicit BPS domain-wall solutions in the Veneziano-Yankielowicz theory. We also briefly discuss a supersymmetric system of an open membrane having a string attached to its boundary and coupled to a massive extension of the Veneziano-Yankielowicz model., Comment: 39 pages, 5 figures, v2: comments, figure and references added; v3: further comments and references added, typos corrected, in subsection 6.3 found an inconsistency of the |k|=N BPS domain wall which was therefore removed from the list of the solutions

We have constructed a complete action for the system of N D0-branes in flat 10D type IIA superspace. It is invariant under the rigid spacetime supersymmetry and local worldline supersymmetry ($\kappa$-symmetry). This latter can be considered as supersymmetry of maximal 1d SU(N) SYM model which is made local by coupling to supergravity induced by embedding of the center of energy worldline into the target superspace. The spinor moving frame technique is essentially used to achieve such a coupling. High Energy Physics - Theory - Abstract
We develop Hamiltonian formalism and quantize supersymmetric non-Abelian multiwave system (nAmW) in D=3 spacetime constructed as a simple counterpart of 11D multiple M-wave system. Its action can be obtained from massless superparticle one by putting on its worldline 1d dimensional reduction of the 3d SYM model in such a way that the new system still possesses local fermionic kappa-symmetry. The quantization results in a set of equation of supersymmetric field theory in an unusual space with su(N)-valued matrix coordinates. Their superpartners, the fermionic su(N)-valued matrices, cannot be split on coordinates and momenta in a covariant manner and hence are included as abstract operators acting on the state vector in the generic form of our D=3 Matrix model field equations. We discuss the Clifford superfield representation for the quantum state vector and in the simplest case of N=2 elaborate it in a bit more detail. As a check of consistency, we show that the bosonic Matrix model field equations obtained by quantization of the purely bosonic limit of our D=3 nAmW system have a nontrivial solution., Comment: 1+27 pages

We consider four-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=1$ supergravity models of a kind appearing in string flux compactifications. It has been recently shown that, by using double three-form multiplets instead of ordinary chiral multiplets, one can promote to dynamical variables (part of) the quantized numbers appearing in the flux-induced superpotential. We show that double three-form multiplets naturally transform under symplectic dualities associated with the special K\"ahler structure that characterizes their scalar sector. Furthermore, we discuss how to couple membranes which carry arbitrary `electric-magnetic' charges. The complete action is supersymmetric, kappa-symmetric and duality covariant. We show that 10D spinor helicity formalism can be understood as spinor moving frame approach to supersymmetric particles extended to the description of amplitudes. This allows us to develop the spinor helicity formalism for 11D supergravity and a new constrained superfield formalism for 10D SYM and 11D SUGRA amplitudes. We show how the constrained on-shell superfields, one-particle counterparts of the superamplitudes, can be obtained by quantization of massless superparticle mechanics. We make some stages towards the calculation of amplitudes of 10D SYM and 11D SUGRA in this framework. In particular we have found supersymmetric Ward identities for constrained amplitudes and an especially convenient gauge, fixed on the spinor frame variables corresponding to scattered particles, which promises to be an extremely useful tool for further development of our approach. We also discuss a candidate for generalization of the BCFW recurrent relations for the constrained tree superamplitudes, indicate and discuss a problem of dependence of the expressions obtained with it on a deformation vector, which is not fixed uniquely in higher dimensional $D>4$ cases., Comment: 73 pages, no figures. Tree amplitudes of 10D supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory (SYM) and 11D supergravity (SUGRA) are collected in multi-particle counterparts of analytic on-shell superfields. These have essentially the same form as their chiral 4D counterparts describing ${\cal N}=4$ SYM and ${\cal N}=8$ SUGRA, but with components dependent on a different set of bosonic variables. These are the D=10 and D=11 spinor helicity variables, the set of which includes the spinor frame variable (Lorentz harmonics) and a scalar density, and generalized homogeneous coordinates of the coset $\frac{SO(D-2)}{SO(D-4)\otimes U(1)}$ (internal harmonics). We present an especially convenient parametrization of the spinor harmonics (Lorentz covariant gauge fixed with the use of an auxiliary gauge symmetry) and use this to find (a gauge fixed version of) the 3-point tree superamplitudes of 10D SYM and 11D SUGRA which generalize the 4 dimensional anti-MHV superamplitudes., Comment: LaTeX, 51pp. V2: improved and completed; to be published in JHEP; 63pp

Recently proposed exceptional field theories (EFTs) making manifest the duality $E_{n(n)}$ symmetry, first observed as nonlinearly realized symmetries of the maximal $d=3,4,...,9$ supergravity ($n=11-d$) and containing 11D and type IIB supergravity as sectors, were formulated in enlarged spacetimes. In the case of $E_{7(7)}$ EFT such an enlarged spacetime can be identified with the bosonic body of the $d=4$ central charge superspace $\Sigma^{(60|32)}$, the ${\cal N}=8$ $d=4$ superspace completed by 56 additional bosonic coordinates associated to central charges of the maximal $d=4$ supersymmetry algebra. In this paper we show how the hypothesis on the relation of all the known $E_{n(n)}$ EFTs, including $n=8$, with supersymmetry leads to the conjecture on existence of 11D exceptional field theory living in 11D tensorial central charge superspace $\Sigma^{(528|32)}$ and underlying all the $E_{n(n)}$ EFTs with $n=2,...,8$, and probably the double field theory (DFT). We conjecture the possible form of the section conditions of such an 11D EFT and show that quite generic solutions of these can be generated by superparticle models the ground states of which preserve from one half to all but one supersymmetry. The properties of these superparticle models are briefly discussed. We argue that, upon quantization, their quantum states should describe free massless non-conformal higher spin fields in D=11. We also discuss some relevant representations of the M-theory superalgebra which, in the present context, describes supersymmetry of the 11D EFT., Comment: 33 pages. V2: references added. We show that different (brane and constrained superfield) descriptions for the Volkov-Akulov goldstino coupled to N=1, D=4 supergravity with matter produce similar wide classes of models with spontaneously broken local supersymmetry and discuss the relation between the different formulations. As with the formulations with irreducible constrained superfields, the geometric goldstino brane approach has the advantage of being manifestly off-shell supersymmetric without the need to introduce auxiliary fields. It provides an explicit solution of the nilpotent superfield constraints and avoids issues with non-Gaussian integration of auxiliary fields. We describe general couplings of the supersymmetry breaking sector, including the goldstino and other non-supersymmetric matter, to supergravity and matter supermultiplets. Among various examples, we discuss a goldstino brane contribution to the gravitino mass term and the supersymmetrization of the anti-D3-brane contribution to the effective theory of type IIB warped flux compactifications., Comment: Dedicated to the memory of Mario Tonin, 47 pages; v2,v3: comments and references added, typos corrected

High Energy Physics - Theory - Abstract
We review and investigate different aspects of scalar fields in supergravity theories both when they parametrize symmetric spaces and when they parametrize spaces of special holonomy which are not necessarily symmetric (Kahler and Quaternionic-Kahler spaces): their role in the definition of derivatives of the fermions covariant under the R-symmetry group and (in gauged supergravities) under some gauge group, their dualization into (d-2)-forms, their role in the supersymmetry transformation rules (via fermion shifts, for instance) etc. We find a general definition of momentum map that applies to any manifold admitting a Killing vector and coincides with those of the holomorphic and tri-holomorphic momentum maps in Kahler and Quaternionic-Kahler spaces and with an independent definition that can be given in symmetric spaces. We show how the momentum map occurs ubiquitously: in gauge-covariant derivatives of fermions, in fermion shifts, in the supersymmetry transformation rules of (d-2)-forms etc. We also give the general structure of the Noether-Gaillard-Zumino conserved currents in theories with fields of different ranks in any dimension., Comment: 62 pages. We obtain a four-dimensional supergravity with spontaneously broken supersymmetry allowing for de Sitter vacua by coupling a superspace action of minimal N=1, D=4 supergravity to a locally supersymmetric generalization of the Volkov-Akulov goldstino action describing the dynamics of a space-filling non-BPS 3-brane in N=1, D=4 superspace. To the quadratic order in the goldstino field the obtained action coincides with earlier constructions of supergravities with nilpotent superfields, while matching the higher-order contributions will require a non-linear redefinition of fields. In the unitary gauge, in which the goldstino field is set to zero, the action coincides with that of Volkov and Soroka. We also show how a nilpotency constraint on a chiral curvature superfield emerges in this formulation., Comment: 29 pages, v2: typos corrected, references added

High Energy Physics - Theory ,General Relativity and Quantum Cosmology - Abstract
The covariant and kappa-symmetric action for superstring in direct product of two flat D=10 N=1 superspaces is presented. It is given by the sum of supersymmetric generalization of two copies of chiral boson actions constructed with the use of the Pasti-Sorokin-Tonin (PST) technique. The chirality of 8 `left' bosons and 8 `left' fermions and the anti-chirality of their `right' counterparts are obtained as gauge fixed version of the equations of motion, so that the physical degrees of freedom are essentially those of the II Green-Schwarz superstring. Our action is manifestly T-duality invariant as the fields describing oscillating and winding modes enter it on equal footing., Comment: 4+1 pages. V2: Misprints corrected, references added

High Energy Physics - Theory - Abstract
We study the tensor gauge fields ("notophs") of ungauged N=8 D=4 supergravity in superspace. These are described by 2-form potentials in the adjoint representation of G=E(7(+7)). The consistency of the natural candidates for the superspace constraints for their field strengths fixes the form of the generalized Bianchi identities and also requires the potentials with indices of G/H=E(7(+7))/SU(8) generators to be dual to the scalars of the N=8,D=4 supergravity multiplet. In contrast, the field strengths of the 2-form potentials corresponding to the SU(8) generators are dual to fermionic bilinears, so that these potentials are auxiliary rather than physical fields. Their presence, however, is essential to formulate a tensor hierarchy of N=8,D=4 supergravity consistent with its U-duality group E(7(+7))., Comment: 19 pages. We study the Lagrangian description of chiral bosons, p-form gauge fields with (anti-)self-dual gauge field strengths, in D=2p+2 dimensional spacetime of nontrivial topology. We show that the manifestly Lorentz and diffeomorphism invariant Pasti-Sorokin-Tonin (PST) approach is consistent and produces the (anti-)self-duality equation also in topologically nontrivial spacetime. We discuss in what circumstances the nontrivial topology makes difference between two disconnected, `da-timelike' and `da-spacelike' branches of the PST system, the gauge fixed version of which are described by not manifestly invariant Henneaux-Teitelboim (HT) and Perry-Schwarz (PS) actions, respectively., Comment: 1+36 pages, JHEP class. We show that, at the classical level, the recently proposed `ambitwistor string' model is equivalent to the spinor moving frame formulation of null-supersting, which in its turn is equivalent to Siegel's formulation of closed twistor string or to its higher dimensional generalizations. Although the null-(super)string is usually considered as describing the tensionless limit of (super)string, we show that its action can be derived from the spinor moving frame formulation of superstring also in the infinite tension limit. This observation allows us to argue on the absence of critical dimensions and suggests that the (ambi)twistor string based technique(s) to calculate field theory amplitudes can be developed not only in D=10 or 26, but also in D=11 and other dimensions. The D=11 and D=10 twistor strings are described in some details., Comment: 1+23 pages. V2: acknowledgments, one reference and two comments added

We construct the duality-symmetric actions for a large class of six-dimensional models describing hierarchies of non-Abelian scalar, vector and tensor fields related to each other by first-order (self-)duality equations that follow from these actions. In particular, this construction provides a Lorentz invariant action for non-Abelian self-dual tensor fields. We study the properties of the covariant supersymmetric and kappa-symmetric action for a system of N nearly coincident M0-branes (mM0 system) in flat eleven dimensional (11D) superspace and obtain supersymmetric equations for this dynamical system. Although a single M0-brane is the massless 11D superparticle, center of energy motion of the mM0 system is characterized by a nonnegative constant mass M constructed from the matrix fields describing the relative motion of mM0 constituents. We show that a bosonic solution of the mM0 equations can be supersymmetric iff this effective mass vanishes, M=0, and that all the supersymmetric bosonic solutions preserve just one half of the 11D supersymmetry., Comment: 23 pages, RevTeX4, no figures. The D=10 pure spinor constraint can be solved in terms of spinor moving frame variables and 8-component complex null vector which can be related to the kappa-symmetry ghost. Using this and similar solutions for the conjugate pure spinor and other elements of the non-minimal pure spinor formalism we present a (hopefully useful) reformulation of the measure of the pure spinor path integral for superstring in terms of products of Cartan form corresponding to the coset of 10D Lorentz group and to the coset of complex orthogonal group SO(8,C). Our study suggests a possible complete reformulation of the pure spinor superstring in terms of new irreducible set of variable., Comment: 23 pages, no figures. V2: references added

We obtain the complete set of equations of motion for the interacting system of supermembrane and dynamical D=4 N = 1 supergravity by varying its complete superfield action and writing the resulting superfield equations in the special gauge where the supermembrane Goldstone field is set to zero. We solve the equations for auxiliary fields and discuss the effect of dynamical generation of cosmological constant in the Einstein equation of interacting system and its renormalization due to some regular contributions from supermembrane. These two effects (discussed in late 70th and 80th, in the bosonic perspective and in the supergravity literature) result in that, generically, the cosmological constant has different values in the branches of the spacetime separated by the supermembrane worldvolume., Comment: 23 pages, no figures. This contribution begins the study of the complete superfield Lagrangian description of the interacting system of D=4 N=1 supergravity (SUGRA) and supermembrane. Firstly, we review a 'three form supergravity' by Ovrut and Waldram, which we prefer to call 'special minimal supergravity'. This off-shell formulation of simple SUGRA is appropriate for our purposes as the supermembrane action contains the so-called Wess-Zumino term given by the integral over a three form potential in superspace, C3. We describe this formulation in the frame of Wess--Zumino superfield approach, showing how the basic variations of minimal SUGRA are restricted by the conditions of the existence of a three-form potential C3 in its superspace. In this language the effect of dynamical generation of cosmological constant, known to be characteristic for this formulation of SUGRA, appears in its superfield form, first described by Ogievetsky and Sokatchev in their formulation of SUGRA as a theory of axial vector superfield. Secondly, we vary the supermembrane action with respect to the special minimal SUGRA superfields (basic variations) and obtain the supercurrent superfields as well as the supergravity superfield equations with the supermembrane contributions., Comment: 18 pages, no figures. We propose superfield equations in tensorial N-extended superspaces to describe the N=2,4,8 supersymmetric generalizations of free conformal higher spin theories. These can be obtained by quantizing a superparticle model in N-extended tensorial superspace. The N-extended higher spin supermultiplets just contain scalar and 'spinor' fields in tensorial space so that, in contrast with the standard (super)space approach, no nontrivial generalizations of the Maxwell or Einstein equations to tensorial space appear when N>2. For N=4,8, the higher spin-tensorial components of the extended tensorial superfields are expressed through additional scalar and spinor fields in tensorial space which obey the same free higher spin equations, but that are axion-like in the sense that they possess Peccei-Quinn-like symmetries., Comment: 0ne reference added; to appear in Nucl. We present the superfield action for the dynamical N=1 D=4 supermembrane in interaction with a dynamical scalar multiplet and use it to derive the superfield equations of motion. These include the supermembrane equations, which formally coincide with equations of supermembrane in a background of the (off-shell) scalar multiplet, and the special chiral superfield equations with supermembrane source. In the case when the scalar supermultiplet part of the action contains only the simplest kinetic term we have also extracted the spacetime component field equations from the superfield equations and solve these in the leading order on supermembrane tension. The inclusion of nontrivial superpotential and relation with known supersymmetric domain wall solutions is briefly discussed., Comment: 26 pages.
