This paper aims at exploring existing literature on substance use prevention programs, focusing on refugee youth. A comprehensive search for relevant articles was conducted on Scopus, PubMed, and EBSCOhost Megafile databases including Academic Search Ultimate, APA PsycArticles, APA PsycInfo, CINAHL with Full Text, E-Journals, Humanities Source Ultimate, Psychology and Behavioural Sciences Collection, and Sociology Source Ultimate. Initially, a total of 485 studies were retrieved; nine papers were retained for quality assessment after removing duplicates. Of the nine studies that met the inclusion criteria, only three are found to partially addressed substance use prevention programs. The two substance use prevention programs that emerge from the study are Adelante Social and Marketing Campaign (ASMC), and Screening and Brief Intervention (SBI). Six others explored protective factors and strategies for preventing substance use. The study findings show that refugee youth held negative attitudes toward institutions that provide substance use prevention programs. This review concluded that refugee youth often experience persistent substance use as they are not aware of prevention programs that may reduce the prevalence and/or severity of such misuse. Introduction: Developing a physician equipped with both technical and affective skills is crucial in ensuring quality patient care. Of these skills, nurturing empathy is a key skill that has been studied in great detail, particularly among medical undergraduates. Despite numerous studies trending the changes in empathy, the results are often contradictory or confusing. Our study aims to find what interventions are effective to inculcate empathy in both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and suggest areas for improvement. Methods: A narrative review was conducted on the interventions in nurturing empathy in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. Original research articles and systematic reviews with clear interventions and outcomes were included in the study. Results: A total of 44 articles were reviewed. About 44% (n = 18) of the studies used a mixture of different approaches as their interventions. Some interventions were anchored by specific topics: Seven papers focusing on communication skills, three papers on humanities, and three on arts. A majority of the interventions (60%; n = 26) were implemented over a span of time as compared to studies which suggested a one‐off intervention (30%; n = 12). Of the 26 papers in which the interventions were enforced over a period of time, 62% (n = 16) indicated an increase in student empathy whereas 16% (n = 4) indicated no changes in empathy post‐intervention. On the contrary, 50% (n = 6) of the one‐off interventions revealed no significant change in student empathy. Jefferson Scale of Empathy (JSE) is widely used in measuring student empathy postintervention, but approximately 41% of the studies included measuring tools other than JSE. Conclusions: Pedagogical methods that invoke thought processes related to the affective domain of learning and experiential learning are more effective than the didactic methods of teaching and learning. Multimodal mixed‐methods approach that combine different pedagogical interventions is more likely to bring about the desired results. Got empathy? This paper presents findings of a Mellon Foundation-funded study conducted at Penn State University in University Park during Fall 2012 that explored scholars' information practices across disciplines encompassing the sciences, humanities, and social sciences. Drawing on results of the Web-based survey and ethnographic interviews, we present findings related to academics' practices in discovering, storing, citing, and archiving information, as well as their views on the role of library in the digital age. The paper harvests a comparative multidisciplinary perspective of our study, identifying principles and technical architecture that support digital scholarship and facilitate the development of literacies for faculty personal information management. Objectives This literature review was designed to examine the role of the arts in medical education. It is distinctive from previous literature reviews in that it focuses specifically on what medical education as a discipline can learn from the arts and does not seek to measure the effectiveness of arts-based educational interventions in students or clinicians. Methods A literature search using the terms 'educat*' or 'medic*' and phrases such as 'arts', 'therapy', 'medicine', 'arts therapy', 'professional artistry' and 'nursing/doctoral education' was conducted. The 60 items identified were filtered for relevance. Key data were extracted from the remaining items and subjected to a literature analysis to identify important or recurring themes. Results A total of 39 pieces of literature were included in the study. Collectively, these outlined four main areas in which the use of the arts impacts upon medical education. These refer to using the arts: (i) as a tool for professional development; (ii) to develop pedagogy; (iii) to critique the prevailing approach of medical education, and (iv) to view practice as a succession of performances. Conclusions The effectiveness of the arts cannot be measured by yardsticks that have been set for judging technical proficiency or short-term impact. The possible outcomes of embracing the arts in medical education include an enriched view of lifelong learning and professional development, the potential to critique prevailing approaches to medical practice, and the revisualisation of medicine as a succession of performances. These open up the broader social aspects of medical practice to scrutiny and offer new and distinctive ways of exploring professional knowledge and identity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The emerging discipline of `digital humanities' has been plagued by a perceived neglect on the part of the broader humanities community. The community as a whole tends not to be aware of the tools developed by DH practitioners (as documented by the recent surveys by Siemens et al.), and tends not to take seriously many of the results of scholarship obtained by DH methods and tools. This article argues for a focus on deliverable results in the form of useful solutions to common problems that humanities scholars share, instead of simply new representations. The question to address is what needs the humanities community has that can be dealt with using DH tools and techniques, or equivalently what incentive humanists have to take up and to use new methods. This can be treated in some respects like the computational quest for the `killer application'-a need of the user group that can be filled, and by filling it, create an acceptance of that tool and the supporting methods/results. Some definitions and examples are provided both to illustrate the idea and to support why this is necessary. The apparent alternative is the status quo, where digital research tools are brilliantly developed, only to languish in neglect and disuse. In this article, we describe the respective approaches we have taken when addressing issues of spelling variation in German and English historical texts. More specifically, we describe an experiment to evaluate automatic techniques for the development of letter replacement heuristics against manually created gold standards of known letter replacements rules. As will become clear, the motivation for the research differs according to the team of researchers: the German researchers are seeking to develop a search engine for historical texts; the English researchers want to improve the results obtained when applying corpus linguistic techniques (developed for modern language) to historical data. BACKGROUND: To achieve sustainability, we must consider scalable improvements in student movement behavior in the classroom setting, educational priorities. Flexible learning spaces that employ student‐centered pedagogy and contain a range of furniture and layout options, implemented to improve educational outcomes, may enable unintended health benefits. In this review, we summarize the evidence on the effects of flexible learning spaces on adolescent student movement behaviors and educational outcomes. METHODS: We searched 5 databases, retrieving 5 quantitative and one qualitative article meeting the review criteria. RESULTS: Students in flexible learning spaces spent less time sitting, and more time standing and moving. Students were also more engaged, on‐task, and collaborated and interacted more. Academic results for English, Mathematics and Humanities for those in flexible learning spaces were higher than peers in traditional classrooms. CONCLUSION: Evidence from the reviewed studies suggests that there may be beneficial outcomes across some movement behaviors as well as learning outcomes in classrooms that employ student‐centered pedagogy and use a built environment that facilitates autonomy and choice around where and how to learn. The article focuses on the problems that are present in subject retrieval from full-text databases of secondary materials in humanities. Full-text databases precede the Web browser for years yet the Web had brought significant improvements such area. With this, ten databases were examined including their search functionality particularly on factors such as Boolean operators, document alternates, limiting by subject area, proximity operators, phrase searching or vocabulary indexing. It was recommended that enhancement of database records can be done through improved search functionality or by the educating searchers in a more efficient ways.
