Abstract

Abstract: The macroscopic mechanical behavior of elliptical cell honeycombs are characterized using couple-stress elasticity theory. General expressions for the couple-stress elastic constants are obtained through a combination of non-dimensional analysis and numerical analysis. The expressions for the six in-plane orthotropic couple-stress compliances are derived in terms of the honeycomb cell size, cell wall thickness, cell ellipticity and the linear elastic properties of the cell wall material.
