The article discusses the increasing popularity of the study of Chinese philosophy in the U.S. It addresses the amount of research in comparative philosophy between Western and Chinese thought systems, the academic empowerment of Chinese-born professors, and the global importance of China as an economic power.

The author reflects on the gap between East and West in the area of self-perception. In a study, he stated that Asian students outperformed Americans, but when they were asked to evaluate their performances, Americans revealed a higher evaluation. Several studies is presented regarding self-esteem. He concluded that when it comes on global competition, East and West are blending, but when it comes to perception of self, they remain far apart.
