Abstract

The article presents information about the movement of tectonic plates that caused 8.0 magnitude earthquake in the southern coastal areas of Peru on August 15, 2007. The affected areas of Peru come under the world's most active geological areas. Here the South America plate collides with Nazca plate. The Nazca plate slides under the South America plate three inches a year. This is said to be fast pace in geological terms.
