In this article the author argues that technological changes to the publishing world and the transition of many libraries toward digital collections has not changed the view of many scholars regarding the importance of the printed book. He comments on the scholarly study of the history of the book, examines his own tendencies as a bibliophile and book collector, and shares ways he approaches teaching literature by having students use the original printed versions of historical works. He also discusses several books including "Books: A Living History," by Martyn Lyons, "Books Make a Home: Elegant Ideas for Storing and Displaying Books" by Damian Thompson, and "Writers' Houses" by Francesca Premoli-Droulers and Erica Lennard.
