High-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes, which exclusively allow vehicles with two or more travelers on board to enter, has been recognized as a promising and practical way to motivate travelers to carpool. However, in the presence of ride-sourcing services, ride-sourcing vehicles with one driver and one (or more) passenger on board also meet the vehicle requirements of HOV lanes. So instead of encouraging travelers to carpool, HOV lanes may benefit ride-sourcing users and stimulate ride-sourcing demand. In this paper, in a single-corridor network with both HOV lanes and general purpose (GP) lanes, we model travelers' mode choices among transit, driving alone, ride-sourcing, and carpool, and delineate travelers' lane choices at user equilibrium, with the travel time of GP/HOV lanes and the carpool price being endogenously determined. With numerical examples, we show that the occupation of HOV lanes by ride-sourcing vehicles will greatly reduce the time saving on HOV lanes, thus lower the attractiveness of carpool, and increase the total travel time cost on the corridor. To solve this problem, we propose to implement an additional tolling scheme on HOV lanes, so that carpool users can split the toll evenly, while ride-sourcing riders have to pay the toll alone. As shown by numerical examples, the optimal tolling scheme can effectively reduce the occupancy of ride-sourcing vehicles on the HOV lane and encourage users to carpool. The driver's takeover time is crucial to ensure a safe takeover transition in conditional automated driving. The study aimed to construct a prediction model of driver's takeover time based on individual characteristics, external environment, and situation awareness variables. A total of 18 takeover events were designed with scenarios, non-driving-related tasks, takeover request time, and traffic flow as variables. High-fidelity driving simulation experiments were carried out, through which the driver's takeover data was obtained. Fifteen basic factors and three dynamic factors were extracted from individual characteristics, external environment, and situation awareness. In this experiment, these 18 factors were selected as input variables, and XGBoost and Shapely were used as prediction methods. A takeover time prediction model (BM + SA model) was then constructed. Moreover, we analyzed the main effect of input variables on takeover time, and the interactive contribution made by the variables. And in this experiment, the 15 basic factors were selected as input variables, and the basic takeover time prediction model (BM model) was constructed. In addition, this study compared the performance of the two models and analyzed the contribution of input variables to takeover time. The results showed that the goodness of fit of the BM + SA model (Adjusted_R 2 ) was 0.7746. The XGBoost model performs better than other models (support vector machine, random forest, CatBoost, and LightBoost models). The relative importance degree of situation awareness variables, individual characteristic variables, and external environment variables to takeover time gradually reduced. Takeover time increased with the scan and gaze durations and decreased with pupil area and self-reported situation awareness scores. There was also an interaction effect between the variables to affect takeover time. Overall, the performance of the BM + SA model was better than that of the BM model. This study can provide support for predicting driver's takeover time and analyzing the mechanism of influence on takeover time. Traffic violation is one of the leading causes of traffic crashes. In the context of global aging, it is important to study traffic violations by elderly drivers for improving traffic safety in preparation for a worldwide aging population. In this study, a hybrid approach of Latent Class Analysis (LCA) and XGBoost based SHAP is proposed to identify hidden clusters and to understand the key contributing factors on the severity of traffic violations by elderly drivers, based on the police-reported traffic violation dataset of Beijing (China). First, LCA is applied to segment the dataset into several latent homogeneous clusters, then XGBoost based SHAP is established on each cluster to identify feature contributions and the interaction effects of the key contributing factors on the severity of traffic violations by elderly drivers. Two comparison groups were set up to analyze factors, which are responsible for the different severities of traffic violations. The results show that elderly drivers can be classified into four groups by age, urban or not, license, and season; factors such as less annual number of traffic violations, national & provincial highway, night and winter are key contributing factors for higher severity of traffic violations, which are consistent with common cognition; key contributing factors for all clusters are similar but not identical, for example, more annual number of traffic violations contribute to more severe violation for all clusters except for Cluster 2; some factors which are not key contributing factors may affect the severity of traffic violations when they are combined with other factors, for example, the combination of lower annual number of traffic violations and county & township highway contributes to more severe violation for Cluster 1. These findings can help government to formulate targeted countermeasures to decrease the severity of traffic violations by specific elderly groups and improve road service for the driving population.

Age-related changes and frailty are reasons for the high proportion of older drivers in certain types of crashes, such as giving right of way at intersections and turning left. The identified crash causes include the driver's demographics, driving style, cognitive function, and mental workload. This study aimed to explore the associations of demographics and scale measures with cognitive driving behavior. Thirty-nine drivers, consisting of twenty younger drivers (18-60 years old) and nineteen older drivers (above 60 years old), participated in driving simulation experiments after completing scale tests. The selected scale measures included the demographic questionnaire, Multidimensional Driving Style Inventory (MDSI-C), Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), Trail Making Test Part A (TMT-A) and Part B (TMT-B), and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Task Load Index (NASA-TLX) for obtaining subjective information from drivers. Driving scenarios were developed based on the driving characteristics of older adults to investigate age-related driving ability. The driving behavior parameters included reaction time, lateral stability, and driving speed, corresponding to reaction, perception, and execution. Three stepwise regression models showed that NASA-TLX, the interaction between age and driving experience, and the interaction between age and TMT-A significantly explained 53.3 % of reaction time variance; TMT-A, risk driving style, anxiety driving style, and gender significantly explained 53.5 % of lateral stability variance; TMT-A, NASA-TLX, and MMSE significantly explained 60.6 % of driving speed variance. Subsequently, the impact of four age-related predictor variables on driving behavior was further discussed. It is worth noting that a rich driving experience may compensate for driving performance. However cognitive impairment impairs this compensation. Driving behavior is influenced by a combination of various factors. Age, as a physiological indicator, is not sufficient to be a strong predictive factor for lateral stability and driving speed. During nighttime driving, the inherent challenges of low-illuminance conditions often lead to an increased crash rate and higher fatalities by impairing drivers' ability to recognize imminent hazards. While the severity of this issue is widely recognized, a significant research void exists with regard to strategies to enhance hazard perception under such circumstances. To address this lacuna, our study examined the potential of an intervention grounded in the knowledge-attitude-practice (KAP) framework to bolster nighttime hazard detection among drivers. We engaged a cohort of sixty drivers split randomly into an intervention group (undergoing specialized training) and a control group and employed a holistic assessment that combined eye movement analytics, physiological response monitoring, and driving performance evaluations during simulated scenarios pre- and post-intervention. The data showed that the KAP-centric intervention honed drivers' visual search techniques during nighttime driving, allowing them to confront potential threats with reduced physiological tension and ensuring more adept vehicle handling. As the detrimental impact of the commonly recommended centered driving mode for autonomous trucks on road longevity is gaining attention, more lateral control modes are being proposed to enhance road sustainability. However, there is currently a lack of research on the lateral safety analysis of autonomous trucks with different lateral control modes, especially in complex driving scenarios (such as overtaking) and adverse weather conditions. Therefore, this study developed a safety assessment framework to comparatively analyze the risk probability differences in lateral accidents during overtaking maneuvers by autonomous trucks with different lateral control modes under adverse weather conditions. Based on aerodynamics and vehicle dynamics simulations to capture the multifactorial influences on truck lateral deviation, the results are used for model validation and training. In the reliability approach, Support Vector Machine Regression (SVR) is introduced to establish the SVR response surface model with optimal predictive performance, and combined with Monte Carlo simulations for safety assessment, quantifying safety indices. The results indicate that trucks being overtaken during overtaking maneuvers are more prone to lateral accidents under crosswind influences. The overall impact of lateral control modes on the lateral safety trends is minor. Compared to other lateral control modes, following the centered zero-drift mode is generally safer. However, in conditions of low wind speeds (below 20 km/h) or on highly slippery road surfaces (road friction coefficient below 0.1), autonomous trucks following a uniform distribution mode can better maintain a low-risk level. Fatigued driving threatens the safety of people's lives and property. Scent countermeasures offer minimal disruption and high efficacy, making them a promising approach. The aim of this study was to explore the application of scent countermeasures in alleviating fatigued driving. This study explored changes in EEG frequency bands (alpha, beta, theta, and gamma) and the activity of EEG metrics ( R ( α / β ) , R θ /( α + β ) and R ( α + θ )/( α + β ) ) in the temporal lobe during driving tasks, selected fatigued driving identifiers, and aided validation by investigating subjective fatigue with the Karolinska Sleepiness Scale (KSS). The EEG indicators all increased, with a significant increase in R ( α / β ) . R ( α / β ) was combined with the KSS to explore the effects of three scents, peppermint, grapefruit, and lavender, on driving fatigue. The subjective questionnaire results indicated that all three scents significantly improved driving fatigue, with significantly lower levels of driving fatigue compared to the control group. The analysis of EEG signals revealed a significant decrease in R ( α / β ) after the implementation of scent countermeasures. Moreover, R ( α / β ) was found to be lower in all three odor intervention groups compared to the control group. All three scents were found to significantly alleviate driving fatigue. The grapefruit scent had a better timely effect in relieving driving fatigue and the lavender scent had a longer effectiveness. This study provides further exploration for the application of odor interventions to alleviate driving fatigue. This study provides a practical reference for drivers to use odors to avoid fatigue in order to improve road safety.

Intelligent Connected Vehicle (ICV) is considered one of the most promising active safety technologies to address current transportation challenges. Human-Machine Interface (HMI) plays a vital role in enhancing user driving experience with ICV technology. However, in an ICV environment, drivers may exhibit excessive reliance on HMI, resulting in diminished proactive observation and analysis of the road environment, and subsequently leading to a potential decrease in drivers' situational awareness. This reduced situational awareness may consequently lead to a decline in their overall engagement in driving tasks. Therefore, to comprehensively investigate the impact of HMI on driver performance in various ICV environments, this study incorporates three distinct HMI systems: Control group, Warning group, and Guidance group. The Control group provides basic information, the Warning group adds front vehicle icon and real-time headway information, while the Guidance group further includes speed and voice guidance features. Additionally, the study considers three types of mainline vehicle gaps, namely, 30 m, 20 m, and 15 m. Through our self-developed ICV testing platform, we conducted driving simulation experiments on 43 participants in a freeway interchange merging area. The findings reveal that, drivers in the Guidance group exhibited explicit acceleration while driving on the ramp. Drivers in the Guidance and Warning groups demonstrated smoother speed change trends and lower mean longitudinal acceleration upon entering the acceleration lane compared to the Control group, indicating a preference for more cautious driving strategies. During the pre-merging section, drivers in the Warning group demonstrated a more cautious and smooth longitudinal acceleration. The Guidance group's HMI system assisted drivers in better speed control during the post-merging section. Differences in mainline vehicle gaps did not significantly impact the merging positions of participants across the three HMI groups. Drivers in the Guidance group merged closest to the left side of the taper section, while the Control group merged farthest. The research findings offer valuable insights for developing dynamic human-machine interfaces tailored to specific driving scenarios in the environment of ICVs. Future research should investigate the effects of various HMIs on driver safety, workload, energy efficiency, and overall driving experience. Forward collision warning (FCW) systems have been widely used in trucks to alert drivers of potential road situations so they can reduce the risk of crashes. Research on FCW use shows, however, that there are differences in drivers' responses to FCW alerts under different scenarios. Existing FCW algorithms do not take differences in driver response behavior into account, with the consequence that the algorithms' minimum safe distance assessments that trigger the warnings are not always appropriate for every driver or situation. To reduce false alarms, this study analyzed truck driver behavior in response to FCW warnings, and k-means clustering was adopted to classify driver response behavior into three categories: Response Before Warning (RBW), Response After Warning (RAW), and No Response (NR). Results showed that RBW clusters tend to occur at long following distances (>19 m), and drivers applied braking before the warning. In RAW clusters, deceleration after warning is significantly more forceful than before warning. NR clusters occur at short distances, and deceleration fluctuates only slightly. To optimize the FCW algorithm, the warning distance was divided into reaction distance and braking distance. The linear support vector machine was used to fit the driver reaction distance. The long short-term memory method was used to predict braking distance based on each of the three response scenarios: R 2 was 0.896 for RAW scenarios, 0.927 for RBW scenarios, and 0.980 for NR scenarios. Faced with the contradiction between the increasing traffic volume and the aging road infrastructures in the rural area, this paper aims to propose feasible strategies to enhance the level of service and safety, by a case study of the rural area in the north Jintan district. In order to figure out current issues related to rural roads, a carefully designed investigation has been conducted, and the results of the two-week investigation include roads' basic information, traffic signs and protective facilities, surrounding landscape, and etc. Based on the field driving tests, specific problems including signs category, signs installation and facility maintenance have been fully analyzed. Meanwhile, the problem of roadnet connectivity has also been pointed out through the theory of complex network, and results show that the average node clustering coefficient and shortest path length perform worse than the demonstration plot of other rural districts. For the sake of rural traffic safety and management efficiency, both quantified and qualified strategies have been put forward. The quantified strategies include the regular inspection indicators, the safety sight distance at T-type crossings, as well as the risk severity of sections and the crossings. The qualified strategies involve the management of trucks and roadworks, the setting of signalized intersections, and the timely updates of traffic signs and facilities. Driving behavior is considered as the primary crash influencing factor, whereas studies claimed that over 90% crashes were attributed by behavior features. Therefore, unveil pre-crash driving behavior features is of great importance for crash prevention. Previous studies have established the correlations between features such as vehicle speed, speed variability, and the probability of crash occurrences, but these analyses have concluded inconsistent results. This is due to the varying operating characteristics among roadway facilities, where given the same driving behavior statistical features, the corresponding traffic states are not identical. In this study, a behavioral entropy index was proposed to address the abovementioned issue. First, through comparing the individual driving behavior with the group distribution, behavioral entropy index was calculated to quantify the abnormality of driving behavior. Then, crash classification models were established by comparing the behavioral entropy prior to crash events and normal driving conditions. The empirical analyses have been conducted based on 1,634,770 naturalistic driving trajectories and 1027 crash events. And models have been carried out for urban roadway sections, urban intersections, and highway sections separately. The results showed that utilizing the behavior entropy instead of the statistical features could enhance the crash classification accuracy by 11.3%. And common pre-crash features of increased behavioral entropy were identified. Coping capacity is a key aspect of driver-vehicle interaction when drivers observe and make decisions, and is of great importance for drivers. However, different drivers have different self-cognition and assess their driving abilities differently, especially for novice drivers. Based on questionnaire data, this study has investigated the coping capacities of drivers in both static environments and dynamic environments. With the ANOVA analysis method and the structural equation model (SEM), this study has verified the effects of gender and driving factors (driving years, driving frequency, driving time) on drivers' coping capacities based on drivers' self-assessment scores and mutual assessment scores. Drivers' self-assessment scores show significant effects of all factors on drivers' coping capacities, and drivers' mutual assessment scores show significant effects of all factors, excluding driving time, on drivers' coping capacities. Also, it has been found that all drivers in the driving year group have cognitive biases. It seems that first-year drivers are always overconfident with their driving skills, while drivers with a driving experience of more than three years usually score driving skills of themselves and other drivers most conservatively. Crashes caused by problems with bus drivers' physical and mental health have increased in frequency in recent years. Insomnia, a common type of sleep problem, has significant positive relationships with both crash risk and mental health problems, especially anxiety and depression, which are themselves associated with driving behavior. However, few studies have conducted analysis on sleep-related problems and mental health exclusively on bus drivers, nor on how these problems influence driving performance. Thus, this study explored the effect of insomnia and mental health on bus drivers' risky driving behavior and evaluated the interaction of four variables: insomnia, anxiety, depression, and risky driving behavior. The survey-based investigation was conducted in a bus company in Suzhou, China, with 1,295 bus drivers participating. Insomnia, anxiety, and depression were self-reported based on professional mental health scales and risky driving behaviors were measured by the Driver Behavior Questionnaire. Two mediation models and a chain mediation model were developed to examine relationships among the bus drivers' insomnia, anxiety, depression, and risky driving behavior. Results revealed that (a) bus drivers less than 31 years old, drivers with more than 11 years' experience driving buses, and those with crash and violation involvement within three years demonstrated more severe degrees of insomnia, anxiety, depression, and risky driving behavior; (b) there were significant positive correlations and interactions among the four variables. Results specifically related to the interaction among variables include findings that (a) anxiety mediated between insomnia and risky driving behavior; (b) depression mediated between insomnia and risky driving behavior; and (c) anxiety affected bus drivers' risky driving behavior primarily though depression. Intersections are high-risk locations for autonomous vehicles (AVs). Crash causation analysis based on pre-crash scenarios can provide new insight into these crashes that can lead to effective countermeasures, but there are significant differences in pre-crash scenarios between autonomous and conventional vehicles, and inadequate AV data has put limits on research. The association rule method, however, can yield useful results despite these limits. This study therefore aims to use the method with pre-crash scenarios to understand the characteristics and contributing factors of AV crashes at intersections from the latest 5-year AV crash data. Analysis of 197 AV crashes at intersections revealed 30 types of pre-crash scenarios. The rear-end crash (58.88%) and lane change crash (16.24%) were the most frequently occurring scenarios for AVs. The proportion of AVs being rear-ended by conventional vehicles was 58.38%. The main contributing factors of these two most common AV scenarios were identified by association rules and crash causes were analyzed from the perspective of AV decision-making. The main factors contributing to the AV rear-end scenario were location outside the intersection in the intersection-related area, traffic signal control, autonomous engaged mode, mixed-use or public land, and weekdays, while those for lane change scenarios were on-street parking and the time of 8:00 a.m. Important causes of rear-end crashes attributable to the AV were inadequate stop and deceleration decisions by the AV's automated driving system (ADS) and insufficient collision avoidance decisions in lane change crashes. Identification of the pre-crash characteristics and contributing factors provide new insight into AV crash causation and can be used in the determination of the AV's operational design domain and the development and optimization of the AV's ADS at intersections. During rapid urbanization and increase in motorization, it becomes particularly important to understand the relationships between traffic safety and risk factors in order to provide targeted improvements and policy recommendations. Violations and police enforcement are key variables, but the endogenous relationship between crashes and violations has made these variables unreliable and has limited their use. To manage this problem, this study developed a systematic approach for the joint modeling of crashes and violations to identify crash and violation hotspots and examine the mechanisms underlying macro-level contributing factors. Socio-economic, road network, public facility, traffic enforcement, and land use intensity data from 115 towns in Suzhou, China, were collected as independent variables. A bivariate negative binomial spatial conditional autoregressive model (BNB-CAR) and the potential for safety improvement (PSI) method were adopted to identify crash-prone and violation-prone areas, and an interpretable machine learning framework was applied to explore the factors' effects by area. Results showed that the proposed framework was able to accurately identify problem areas and quantify the impact of key factors, which, in Suzhou, were the number of traffic police and their daily patrol time. Considering such enforcement-related information provided important insights into reducing crash and violation frequency; for example, keeping the number of traffic police and daily patrol time under certain thresholds (number of police lower than 11 and patrol time lower than 2.3 h in this sample) was as effective as increasing these numbers for reducing the probability of high-crash and high-violation areas. Objective: The purpose of this paper is to explore the changing laws of driving safety in the complex and changing driving environment in urban tunnels, to analyze the evolution of driving risk fields caused by changes in adjacent vehicles, driving behavior characteristics and road environment, and to reveal the formation mechanism of tunnel driving danger zones., Methods: The kinetic field, behavioral field and potential field models are constructed according to the APF theory. The driving safety risks arising from the surrounding vehicles, driving behavior characteristics and changes in the tunnel environment are analyzed in the process of driving from the open section to the exit of the tunnel., Results: The magnitude of the risk field force is inversely proportional to the spacing of the vehicles and the distance between the tunnel sidewalls, and is proportional to the relative speed between the vehicles and the slope of the longitudinal slope. Under the same conditions, the vehicle at the entrance and exit of the tunnel is subjected to a greater force of travel risk than inside the tunnel, and the effect of speed on the force of the risk field is greater than the distance., Conclusions: The established model better describes the trend of driving risk during the driving of vehicles in urban tunnels, and the research findings can provide theoretical support for the design and traffic management of urban tunnels.

Objective: Colored pavement is commonly used to reduce the road traffic risk and promote road traffic safety, but its performance in foggy environments has not been fully assessed. The goal of this research is to explore the effectiveness and optimization of colored pavement in a dynamic low-visibility environment., Methods: A driving simulation experiment is conducted. Three road risk sections in which collisions are common, including a long straight section, a sharp bend section, and a long downslope section, are considered, and three forms of colored pavement are used in five different visibility environments. The effectiveness of the colored pavement is explored by collecting and analyzing driving behavior and physiological characteristic data for 30 drivers in the established driving environment, and information is obtained through a subjective colored evaluation questionnaire. Eight evaluation indexes are selected from the perspectives of driving behavior and physiological characteristics, and the gray premium evaluation method is applied to evaluate the effectiveness of different forms of colored pavement considering the influence of visibility. Finally, the optimal colored pavement under various visibility and road alignment conditions is proposed., Results: The results show that reasonably selecting colored pavement can effectively improve drivers' behaviors and physiological characteristics under foggy conditions. For different road alignments and visibility conditions, different forms of colored pavement should be used to ensure road traffic safety., Conclusions: The findings provide a theoretical reference for the optimization of colored pavement in foggy conditions.

Improving traffic safety requires a better knowledge of cognitive Science, especially of the cognitive Ergonomics of road infrastructure and the vehicle–human interface. Driving is a complex task that involves different cognitive modules that have to coordinate simultaneously. Perception, Language, Memory and Mental Representation, Learning, Emotion and Motivation, Attention, Executive Functions, Thinking and Reasoning or Motor Programming should be better understood in order to adapt traffic infrastructure and interfaces to the human information processing. In this work, we review the importance of these cognitive modes in traffic safety. A holistic exam of all cognitive processes related to driving and road safety is recommended to be taken by all governments and in all countries. In this sense, systematic research in drivers' evaluation and its link to automobile accidents should be implemented. The free-flowing traffic environment of the freeway is an important application scenario for automatic driving. In this scenario, the freeway's geometric design is an important factor because no other vehicle affects the driving process of the target vehicle. The freeway's combined curves have more safety problems, but there are no quantitative guidelines for their geometric design. They present more challenges for automatic driving or driver assistance functions. If the relationship between human-drivers' micro-behavior and the geometric design of combined curves is examined, it could provide theoretical support for the enhancement of automated driving and driver assistance functions as well as the quantitative design of combined curves. The paper analyzed the speed change and lane departure behaviors of combined curves, considering downslope curves, upslope curves, sag curves, and crest curves. The relationship between micro-driving behaviors and combined curves' geometric design were determined using random forest models. The SHAP values of each variable were calculated. The results showed that (1) on a downslope curve and sag curve the speed change behavior should be paid more attention; on an upslope curve and crest curve, the lane departure behavior should be paid more attention; (2) the priority of geometric design parameters for four types of combined curves were different. Based on the results, drivers and autonomous vehicles can pay different levels of attention to their speed change and departure behavior on different combination curves, and take targeted improvement measures in time according to the driving status of the vehicles. Background: Road Traffic injuries (RTI) are among the top ten leading causes of death in the world resulting in 1.35 million deaths every year, about 93% of which occur in low‐ and middle‐income countries (LMICs). Despite several global resolutions to reduce traffic injuries, they have continued to grow in many countries. Many high‐income countries have successfully reduced RTI by using a public health approach and implementing evidence‐based interventions. As many LMICs develop their highway infrastructure, adopting a similar scientific approach towards road safety is crucial. The evidence also needs to be evaluated to assess external validity because measures that have worked in high‐income countries may not translate equally well to other contexts. An evidence gap map for RTI is the first step towards understanding what evidence is available, from where, and the key gaps in knowledge. Objectives: The objective of this evidence gap map (EGM) is to identify existing evidence from all effectiveness studies and systematic reviews related to road safety interventions. In addition, the EGM identifies gaps in evidence where new primary studies and systematic reviews could add value. This will help direct future research and discussions based on systematic evidence towards the approaches and interventions which are most effective in the road safety sector. This could enable the generation of evidence for informing policy at global, regional or national levels. Search Methods: The EGM includes systematic reviews and impact evaluations assessing the effect of interventions for RTI reported in academic databases, organization websites, and grey literature sources. The studies were searched up to December 2019. Selection Criteria: The interventions were divided into five broad categories: (a) human factors (e.g., enforcement or road user education), (b) road design, infrastructure and traffic control, (c) legal and institutional framework, (d) post‐crash pre‐hospital care, and (e) vehicle factors (except car design for occupant protection) and protective devices. Included studies reported two primary outcomes: fatal crashes and non‐fatal injury crashes; and four intermediate outcomes: change in use of seat belts, change in use of helmets, change in speed, and change in alcohol/drug use. Studies were excluded if they did not report injury or fatality as one of the outcomes. Data Collection and Analysis: The EGM is presented in the form of a matrix with two primary dimensions: interventions (rows) and outcomes (columns). Additional dimensions are country income groups, region, quality level for systematic reviews, type of study design used (e.g., case‐control), type of road user studied (e.g., pedestrian, cyclists), age groups, and road type. The EGM is available online where the matrix of interventions and outcomes can be filtered by one or more dimensions. The webpage includes a bibliography of the selected studies and titles and abstracts available for preview. Quality appraisal for systematic reviews was conducted using a critical appraisal tool for systematic reviews, AMSTAR 2. Main Results: The EGM identified 1859 studies of which 322 were systematic reviews, 7 were protocol studies and 1530 were impact evaluations. Some studies included more than one intervention, outcome, study method, or study region. The studies were distributed among intervention categories as: human factors (n = 771), road design, infrastructure and traffic control (n = 661), legal and institutional framework (n = 424), post‐crash pre‐hospital care (n = 118) and vehicle factors and protective devices (n = 111). Fatal crashes as outcomes were reported in 1414 records and non‐fatal injury crashes in 1252 records. Among the four intermediate outcomes, speed was most commonly reported (n = 298) followed by alcohol (n = 206), use of seatbelts (n = 167), and use of helmets (n = 66). Ninety‐six percent of the studies were reported from high‐income countries (HIC), 4.5% from upper‐middle‐income countries, and only 1.4% from lower‐middle and low‐income countries. There were 25 systematic reviews of high quality, 4 of moderate quality, and 293 of low quality. Authors' Conclusions: The EGM shows that the distribution of available road safety evidence is skewed across the world. A vast majority of the literature is from HICs. In contrast, only a small fraction of the literature reports on the many LMICs that are fast expanding their road infrastructure, experiencing rapid changes in traffic patterns, and witnessing growth in road injuries. This bias in literature explains why many interventions that are of high importance in the context of LMICs remain poorly studied. Besides, many interventions that have been tested only in HICs may not work equally effectively in LMICs. Another important finding was that a large majority of systematic reviews are of low quality. The scarcity of evidence on many important interventions and lack of good quality evidence‐synthesis have significant implications for future road safety research and practice in LMICs. Background: Crashes in Iran annually lead to devastating consequences, resulting in loss of life and significant property damage. To mitigate these impacts, the deployment of fixed and mobile speed control cameras has been adopted as a strategy to regulate traffic and improve road safety. Objectives: The aim of this study was to examine the behavior of drivers when approaching speed control cameras and their influence on crash occurrence. Methods: Fatal crash data from three consecutive years (2020-2022) were collected and analyzed using the Geographic Information System (GIS) in Tabriz City. Approximately 27 speed cameras located in crash-spots were investigated within 100-meter sections, both preceding and following the cameras. Results: The results showed a significant reduction in fatal crashes within a 500-meter radius before the speed control cameras. However, crashes were more frequent within distances ranging from 500 to 1000 meters before the cameras, primarily occurring during the night. After passing the cameras, daily crashes increased, with incidents primarily involving pedestrians due to driver inattention occurring within the 500-meter range after the camera's location. Conclusion: The present study not only emphasizes the potential of speed control cameras in promoting safer driving behaviors, but also stresses the importance of conducting further investigations on drivers’ behaviors after passing the speed control cameras to enhance road safety measures. The automobile driving axles contain many types of transmission gears, as well as complex dimensional constraints among them. This makes it a cumbersome work for design of the whole vehicle. To improve design efficiency and reduce consumption of expert labors, it is necessary to search digital design for manufacturing optimization of automobile driving axles. As a result, this paper proposes a modular mathematical modeling method to realize smart design and manufacturing of automobile driving axles. First, with use of modular segmentation, design process of automobile driving axles can be abstracted as mathematical expressions according to their basic functions. Through solution of the developed model objective, main performance indexes of automobile driving axles under various utilization conditions can be automatically output by computers. In addition, to further analyze and optimize noise-vibration-harshness performance of designed schemes, computers-aided engineering-based simulation technology is utilized to make modal analysis and vibration noise analysis toward designed automobile driving axles. This study introduced a dynamic and coordinated strategy (DCS) to optimize parking space allocation and path guidance within a mixed driving parking lot, aiming to enhance parking-cruising efficiency. DCS considers the distinctive characteristics of HVs and AVs and dynamically formulates parking guiding schemes based on real-time conditions. The strategy encompasses four main steps: Triggering scheme formulation, identifying preoccupied parking spaces, updating the parking lot traffic network and optimizing the vehicle-path-space matching scheme. A programming model was established to minimize the total remaining cruising time, and iterative optimization was conducted with vehicle loading test based on timing. To elevate computational efficiency, the concept of parking-cruising path tree (PCPT) and its updating method were introduced based on the dynamic shortest path tree algorithm. Comparative analysis of cases and simulations demonstrated the efficacy of DCS in mitigating parking-cruising duration of different types of vehicles and minimizing forced delays arising from lane blocking. Notably, the optimization effect is particularly significant for vehicles with extended cruising durations or in parking lots with low AV penetration rates and high saturation, with an achievable optimization rate reaching up to 18%. This study addressed challenges related to drivers' noncompliance with guidance and lane blocking, thereby improving overall operational efficiency in mixed driving parking lots.
