Abstract

The article discusses the use of spinal anesthesia for surgery on babies that was pioneered at the University of Vermont Children's Hospital in order to reduce the possible risks that exposure to general anesthesia could pose to children including memory loss, learning difficulties, and changes in brain development. It examines a study known as the GAS study funded partially by the U.S. agency the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
