The Bolton Peer Mediation Project's work in establishing a Bully Free Zone in six schools in Bolton, England, has won it a Philip Lawrence Award for outstandingly good citizenship. The project, the first of its kind in the north of England, is run by teenagers who have volunteered to become part of a team of 'mediators' in their schools. The mediators seek to resolve conflict using skills learnt on peer mediation training courses. Project co-ordinator Jo Bird explains that the Bully Free Zone has helped more than 100 people in its two-year existence.
