The Federal University of Bahia (UFBA) which had its origin in 19th century, accumulated a representative and expressive heritage of various fields of knowledges. This situation estimulated a project which established as target, specific politics of maintenance and preservation of its patrimony. In 2015, we initiated a listing of all artistic and cultural, movable and imovable properties in all campi of the UFBA, in Salvador. It resulted an inventory which shows compounds of identification of typologies and individual classification, state of conservation of samples of various academic unities, of priorities in field of conservation, preservation and restoration of our patrimony. The inventory, of qualitative and quantitative method, coumpounds a base of electronic dates, updated, of easy and democratric Access, which allows Access to academic community, researchers and society generally speaking. As to rare books are concerned, being at the coordination, named “Lugares de Memoria” (Places of Memory), 398 rare books of 18th, 19th and 20th centuries have been registered. Still we need to make the inventory of rare collections and books with special characteristics of 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. When estimating the results of this project, the investment on above mentioned proposals is worth, because they do benefit not only the UFBA, but the society too, once this institution will turn a pool disseminator and promoter of politics of preservation and protection of cultural patrimony which will be disposable in an institutional repository for consultation of external and internal community.
