The article discusses the association between autism and self-harm and suicide rates, revealing an increased risk of self-harm among females with autism and increased risk among males, even after adjusting for various factors. It discusses that autism itself was not significantly associated with suicide death, certain correlates, such as intellectual disabilities and psychiatric diagnoses; and the importance of addressing psychiatric illnesses to reduce suicide risks in individuals with autism.
