Lockheed Martin's Sanders unit is looking at payload alternatives for the 85-gram, six-inch-long Micro Air Vehicle (MAV) being developed in a bid to fill a requirement of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. Development contracts worth $10 million have been awarded by the agency to several firms for an MAV with a five-km range designed to support soldiers and offer the ability to look beyond the next hill. Sanders advanced program manager Jeffrey D. Harris said a radar jammer, a signals intelligence system, a chemical/biological agent detector, a night jammer and a communications relay system are candidates for payload options on MAV.
