TRANSGENDER people , *BIOLOGY - Abstract
Imane Khelif, a boxer from Algeria, competed in the women's category at the Olympics despite being biologically male. This has raised concerns about fairness and safety in women's sports. While Khelif is not transgender, the confusion arises from the language of transgender ideology. Khelif likely has a difference of sexual development (DSD), which can prevent the development of male physical traits. The most probable DSD for Khelif is 5-alpha reductase deficiency, which results in masculine features and a physical advantage in sports. The International Boxing Association disqualified Khelif from the 2023 Women's World Boxing Championships for having XY chromosomes. The International Olympic Committee allowed Khelif to compete as a woman in the Paris Olympics due to issues with the governing body of boxing. Allowing males to compete against females in sports disregards women's safety and fairness. [Extracted from the article]
