ANNIVERSARIES , *FESTIVALS ,HAITIAN Revolution, 1843 - Abstract
The article reports about Haitians warming up for a yearlong celebration of the 200th anniversary of their country's revolution. Haitians and friends of Haiti, including several members of the diplomatic corps, braved a heavy covering of snow to attend a cultural extravaganza, sponsored by the Haitian Multicultural Society of Achievers, held in the art gallery at the Nigerian U.N. Mission. Philippe Djangone-Bi, Cote d' lvoire's U.N. representative, noted the importance of Haiti and how it has been a source of inspiration in the struggle for independence for many Third World countries, particularly on the African continent.
