A study published in Family Practice News in September 2024 suggests that impaired central sensitivity to thyroid hormone may increase the risk of mortality in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and normal thyroid function. The research, conducted on 1303 euthyroid CKD patients, found that those with higher Thyroid Feedback Quantile-based Index (TFQI) levels had a significantly higher risk of all-cause mortality. The study highlights the potential impact of thyroid hormone resistance on mortality in CKD patients, independent of other risk factors. [Extracted from the article]
