The article focuses on a study which found that poor money management skills may suggest that individuals suffering from mild memory problems will soon develop Alzheimer's disease. The participants were 76 older people with no memory problems and 87 older people with mild memory problems but no symptoms of dementia, known as mild cognitive impairment (MCI). They were given a money management test that includes tasks of counting coins, making grocery purchases and detecting fraud situations at the start of the study and then again after a year.
