A recent analysis found that a two-step screening strategy in postmenopausal women showed promising results for detecting ovarian and borderline cancer at early stages. The screening involved an annual blood test to track levels of cancer antigen 125, and those with elevated risk were referred for transvaginal sonography. Of the patients with suspicious findings, 50% were diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and 70% of these cases were stage I or II. While the trial was not designed to detect reduced mortality, the high specificity and positive predictive value of the screening strategy support further development. [Extracted from the article]
