The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation has issued the Liquidation Measures for Foreign Invested Enterprises (FIEs) which take effect on July 9, 1996. The guidelines have become important in light of the increasing number of foreign investors wanting to exit in advance from joint ventures with Chinese partners. The advisory, which covers FIEs, Sino-foreign equity joint ventures, and Sino-foreign cooperative joint ventures, provides a 180-day limit for liquidation and requires the creation of a liquidation committee for special cases.
