The war in Afghanistan has ended with the overthrow of the Najibullah government. However, peace has not come despite the victory of the Islamic forces as the different guerilla factions have come to fighting among themelves. The rivalry between the two main guerilla leaders, Ahmad Shah Massoud and Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, threatens to escalate into another full-scale conflict. In addition, the discrimination of ethnic minorities by the Pashtun majority is sowing the seeds such a conflict.
