The article discusses ways in which efforts by Canadian universities to recruit and hire international professors has led to a decrease in the amount of college teaching positions and research opportunities available for Canadian doctoral students. It explores the history of British and American influence on Canadian higher education, chronicles the Canadianization movement of the 1970s through 1990s, and presents comments from professors Louis Groarke and Yves Gingras and Canadian Association of University Teachers director James Turk.
