A new position statement from the International Diabetes Federation recommends using a 1-hour 75-g oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) to improve the identification of people at risk of developing type 2 diabetes. The 1-hour plasma glucose test has been found to be a more sensitive biomarker for identifying high-risk individuals compared to other tests such as A1c or fasting glucose. However, some experts are skeptical of the 1-hour test's effectiveness and believe that lifestyle interventions and weight loss should be recommended regardless of the test results. The International Diabetes Federation hopes that other organizations will adopt this guidance to improve diabetes screening. [Extracted from the article]
