Abstract
The article focuses on the challenges to the U.S.-India relations under elected Prime Minister Narendra Modi of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). It mentions that Modi's concerns among the Indian and human rights community worldwide posed a challenge for the U.S. engagement. It adds that the U.S. government could leverage the interest of Modi in restoring the role of India as a major trading power by pulling India into the trade groupings which involve the U.S. and Asia.
