THE worlds of politics and the arts merged at last night's Evening Standard theatre awards. Damian Lewis joked that Hugh Grant (pictured right with Newsnight's Emily Maitlis) usually plays prime ministers on screen and now he's telling PMs what to do. Grant, in turn, praised the Evening Standard as an ethical paper. Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, left, who played opposite Helena Bonham Carter when they were at Westminster School, handed out an award to Lucy Kirkwood for Best Play, Chimerica, and reminisced about auditioning unsuccessfully for Sam Mendes at Cambridge.
