According to diverse reports and studies, islamophobia has become a social threat in the European context. Also, several investigations indicate that Muslim women are the main victims of this type of hostility (gender islamophobia), and stress that the media shows a stereotyped image of Muslim women. This paper aims to the study, from the theory of framing, the media image of Muslim women in the Spanish press. The study focuses on the news related to the controversy arising in 2016 by the prohibition of the burkini in some regions in Europe, and the subsequent reopening of the debate on the prohibition of the integral veil in Germany. For this purpose, a quantitative content analysis has been applied to 152 news items published regarding this issue by the five newspapers with the largest circulation in Spain (El País, El Mundo, La Vanguardia, El Periódico and ABC). The analysis consists on an exploratory study to identify the news frames following the scale of Semetko and Valkenburg (2000). In addition, an original methodological design has been applied to study the specific frames regarding Muslim women. The results indicate that, in most cases, the media representation of Muslim women focuses on the "victim" and "threat" frames, even though the "victim" frame appears to a greater extent. During the period January–April 2013, the Basque press covered what at first seemed to be only a local scandal sparked by the detection of horsemeat in processed food labelled in Great Britain and Ireland as containing only beef but quickly became an issue that implicated companies throughout Europe. The findings of this study show that Basque newspapers used interpretative reporting, opinion pieces and in-house journalism drawing heavily on “close" sources to frame this situation in terms of its potential economic and political impact in the Basque Country. This article presents the results of a study on the Journalism Ethics Commission of the Federation of Associations of Spanish Journalists (FAPE), as a body for the self-regulation of journalism in Spain. The objective of this study is to evaluate the performance of this Commission during its first decade of existence. On the other hand, the study presents an analysis of the Commission's doctrine on online journalism, to determine whether conventional ethical principles are used to solve the new ethical dilemmas. It will be demonstrated that the ethical principles of journalism have not changed but that it would be convenient to establish more specific ethical guidelines that are more adjusted to the challenges of online journalism, as it would contribute to clarifying the responsibilities of professional journalists in an environment of great confusion. The press in Spanish in the United States, of Hispanic observance, played a significant role in the re-election of president Obama in 2012, not as much because they campaigned for that candidate, as due to the treatment given in the months prior to the polls to Hispanic social, economic and political problems. This article crosses two parallel researches by studying these topics in four newspapers and four magazines among the most relevant over six months and the front-pages of these periodicals presenting the victory of Obama, by means of a pragmalinguistic analysis.
