A genomic and epidemiologic investigation of an outbreak at the National Institutes of Health Clinical Center determined that S. koreensis was an opportunistic human pathogen that persisted in a reservoir in the hospital plumbing. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article reports that a Burkholderia stabilis outbreak caused nosocomial bloodstream infections. Burkholderia stabilis was grown from blood cultures of seven patients presenting with signs and symptoms of septicemia in the intensive care unit at Mersin University Hospital, Mersin, Turkey between July and October 2002. Four patients had one B. stabilis-positive blood culture, two patients had two, and one patient had four. According to the researcher F. Otag isolates from six of seven patients had the same resistotype and random amplified polymorphic DNA analysis type.
