The film La guapa, guapa speaks about a woman with a deep and dark wish of annulment and self-destruction. However, the couplet has the function of camouflaging this by making us believe that the story is telling us another thing. Only through an attentive listening we will get close to the mystery that surrounds this woman. I will try to analyse the text in order to find what is hidden by the couplet. Our first impression is that the song is about a woman who has fallen into disgrace by trusting the love promises of a man. She commits a crime of passion after been abandoned by a man, who she had previously fell in love with. A crime that will condemn her to social exclusion. However, if we listen attentively to the lyrics, we realise that is a very different story. The protagonist does not fall into disgrace because she already lives in the margins of society. What she does unconsiously, is fall deeper, wallowing in her own exclusion, since there are no external agents which condemn her, but her own actions that exclude her from society. It is like she would not be able or want to find a place within the social order. What I try to demonstrate here is that under the appearance of a love song --or lovelessness-- another topic is hidden. A theme that speaks about the dark psyche of someone who finds an obscure pleasure in living in the slums, in being nobody. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
