In this report, we review current scientific knowledge on the topic of youth mentoring, including what is known about relationships and programs, and their interface with organizations and institutions. Two primary conclusions can be drawn from this review. First, mentoring relationships are most likely to promote positive outcomes and avoid harm when they are close, consistent, and enduring. Second, to date, programs have achieved only limited success in their efforts to establish and sustain such relationships. This is evident in a modest and inconsistent pattern of effects on youth outcomes, well-documented implementation problems, and a lack of compelling evidence of cost-effectiveness. We also review public policy issues in the field, focusing on factors underlying the popularity of youth mentoring in the US and recent efforts to extend its reach. We argue that these factors have had undesirable consequences that include decreasing intensity and infrastructure support for youth mentoring programs as well as a failure to take advantage of the full range of opportunities to cultivate and sustain mentoring relationships across different contexts of youth development. We call for a better alignment of research and practice in the area of youth mentoring, recommending policies that (a) promote evidence-based innovation, rigorous evaluation, and careful replication in dissemination for youth mentoring programs, and (b) encourage intentional and scientifically informed approaches to mentoring across the full-spectrum of youth-serving settings. Theories and models of adult development over the life span provide one of the foundational pieces for gaining a clearer understandings of learning in adulthood. Only recently have adult educators spoken more forcefully about the lack of integrated research on adult women. The purpose of this monograph is to describe those missing female voices as portrayed in the literature of the psychosocial development of women and to suggest links to the practice of teaching and leadership in adult education. Three kinds of studies are reviewed: analysis or conceptualization of the psychological development of women; investigations of developmental issues with all-female samples; and materials on the teaching/learning process with women as well as women and leadership. The first section discusses the literature from two frameworks: more traditional models and entirely new ways of thinking about women's development. Three major themes emerge: the importance of relationships, women's diverse and nonlinear patterns of development, and intimacy and identity. In the second section, suggestions are given for alternative theoretical perspectives, such as critical theory and feminist theory, alternative research designs and data collection techniques, and differing subject pools. The final two sections explore how the literature on women's development could be linked to the practice of teaching adults and on women and leadership within the framework of the three major themes of development, offering practical suggestions for instructors and leaders in adult education. This paper is about Jewish experiences of marriage/partnership, family, and love, as much as it is about doing being Jewish, feeling Jewish, and expressing (Jewish) agency in post-1945 Germany. While 'families' are often approached in terms of social structures in social theory, this paper seeks to relate the experiences of Jews and their partnership/marriage and family forms to the broad concepts of love, agency, personality, and negotiations of Jewishness in the everyday. One of the last performances Vertical City (Bruce Barton and Pil Hansen) created before moving from Toronto to Calgary was Trace, which premiered at the 2014 SummerWorks festival. Crafted in a compact and intense development process with close collaborators Michelle Polak and Martin Julien, Trace marked a subtle but defining moment in our artistic trajectory. Engaging participants in ways unconceivable in our present pandemic world, it was one of our most illuminating explorations of the potential for/in deeply intimate personal exchange between performers and audience members. Trace was built on, with, and through a process of spontaneous collective reminiscence-one perhaps only conceivable within SummerWorks' combination of careful curatorial oversight and empowering artist autonomy. Adopting similar structural and aesthetic principles, this impressionistic three-way meandering reflects back on that experience. On 13 March 2020, researchers Mariah Horner and Jenn Stephenson were worried that their investigation into participatory theatre would come to a halt. Since 2019, Horner and Stephenson have attended and collected over seventy-five participatory theatre performances by Canadian creators, analyzing the dramaturgical structures at play that invite audiences into the co-creative space with artists. Marking a trend, Stephenson and Horner paired this catalogue of participatory dramaturgies with effects of the larger cultural zeitgeist that provides participants with the language and practice in meaningful and participatory play. When COVID-19 hit, social distancing and pandemic-response plans required a different kind of global participation. Although physically disconnecting us from others, public health agencies asked their citizens to collectively participate in new practices that would redefine our relationship to space and each other. When this article was submitted in mid-July, millions of people around the world were participating in something for the common good. Although participatory artists are finding themselves unable to cross the same physical barriers to co-creating work as they could before the COVID-19 pandemic, Horner looks at the ways participatory creators employ their practices in this new reality of social distancing. In "Participating in the Age of Pandemic," Horner investigates how participation is possible at six feet apart, looking to participatory artists in Canada who are defying the loneliness of isolation by inviting intimacy and love into their socially distanced performances. This article is from online and personal conversations between members of the Dis-Performing: Disability and Performance Working Group following the graduate student initiative Convergence: Unsettling the Americas: Radical Hospitalities and Intimate Geographies, in Toronto, Ontario, the territory of the Huron-Wendat, the Seneca, and the Mississaugas of the Credit River. As members, allies, artists, researchers, and advocates of Deaf and disability communities, we all experience hospitality and accessibility in many different ways—whether hosting or guesting. This article explores our stories and perspectives on this during and since the Convergence event on 5–7 October 2017. As artists and individuals passionate about creating accessible for all, we discovered the importance of being in relationship with one another to create meaningful conditions of accessibility, beyond concepts of accommodation that put the labour on those needing to advocate for themselves. This article shares the complexities of these relationships through considerations of hosting failures, ethics of creating protocols, interanimation, micro-protections, care, slowness, and the process of invitation. We share strategies we took as a group, and as individuals, to find meaningful spaces and time to host and guest ourselves, both within and outside our working group For us, disability generates different ways of understanding the world, experiencing hospitality, and how to (be) both guest and host. BACKGROUND: Although sex life of older adults contributes significantly to their conjugal life and overall quality of life, much remains to be explored in this area, especially among African-Americans. Exploring intimacy and connubial life of older African-Americans is vital because they are most affected by chronic conditions and health problems (e.g., diabetes, hypertension, prostate cancer, and heart disease) that tend to adversely affect intimacy and sexual activities. METHODS: 72 community-dwelling respondents (aged 50 to 87) completed a self-administered questionnaire composed of 160 items between November 2003 and January 2004. 18 items were designed to gauge attitudes toward intimacy and sexuality based on a 5-point Likert scale. Mean (SD) differences between men and women were examined using SPSS, version 11.5. RESULTS: Overall Mean (SD) scores were significantly higher on 6 statements dealing with frequency of sexual activities, sex enhancing medications, presence or absence of sexual intercourse in intimate relationships, romance, nonsexual touching, and attractiveness to the opposite sex. Respondents did not differ in their mean (SD) scores on 12 of the 18 statements. Other interesting findings included the following: 1) male respondents reported that physical appearance is what attracts them most in women. Female respondents reported that personality is one attribute that attracts them most about men; and 2) 67.0% of male respondents and 53.3% of female respondents reported that they were sexually active. CONCLUSION: Older African-Americans have positive attitudes toward intimacy and sexuality. Exploring ways of enhancing intimacy and sexuality among older African-Americans is crucial given that they are most affected by chronic conditions that affect sexual health. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract: Autonomous agents may encapsulate their principals’ personal data attributes. These attributes may be disclosed to other agents during agent interactions, producing a loss of privacy. Thus, agents need self-disclosure decision-making mechanisms to autonomously decide whether disclosing personal data attributes to other agents is acceptable or not. Current self-disclosure decision-making mechanisms consider the direct benefit and the privacy loss of disclosing an attribute. However, there are many situations in which the direct benefit of disclosing an attribute is a priori unknown. This is the case in human relationships, where the disclosure of personal data attributes plays a crucial role in their development. In this paper, we present self-disclosure decision-making mechanisms based on psychological findings regarding how humans disclose personal information in the building of their relationships. We experimentally demonstrate that, in most situations, agents following these decision-making mechanisms lose less privacy than agents that do not use them. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
