• The growth inhibition of IMCs layers by In elements is greater than that of Ag. • η-Cu 6 Sn 5 at interface benefits from its small nucleation radius and surface energy. • The Cu 3 Sn at the welding interface has three main sources. • IMCs layer growth is inhibited mainly due to the increasing diffusion activation energy and formation of stronger chemical bonds by In doping. The void defect in intermetallic compounds (IMCs) layer at the joints caused by inhomogeneous atomic diffusion is one of the most important factors limiting the further development of Sn-based solders. In this work, the thermodynamic stability of IMCs (high-temperature η-Cu 6 Sn 5 and o -Cu 3 Sn phases) was improved by adding small amounts of indium (In), and the IMCs layers with moderate thickness, low defect concentrations and stable interface bonding were successfully obtained. The formation order of compounds and the interfacial orientation relationships in IMCs layers, the atomic diffusion mechanism, and the growth tuning mechanism of In on η-Cu 6 Sn 5 and Cu 3 Sn, after In adding, were discussed comprehensively by combining calculations and experiments. It is the first time that the classic heterogeneous nucleation theory and CALPHAD data were used to obtain the critical nucleus radius of η-Cu 6 Sn 5 and Cu 3 Sn, and to explain in detail the main factors affecting the formation order and location of IMCs at joints during the welding process. A novel and systematic growth model about IMCs layers in the case of doping with alloying elements was proposed. The growth tuning mechanism of In doping on η-Cu 6 Sn 5 and Cu 3 Sn was further clarified based on the proposed model using first-principles calculations. • g-C 3 N 4 with N defects provided adsorption and active sites for CO 2. • A possible photoreduction mechanism over InVO 4 /g-C 3 N 4 composite was studied. • A Z-scheme charge migration was induced by built-in electric field and proper energy band. Indium vanadate (InVO 4) possesses excellent potential in photocatalytic carbon dioxide (CO 2) reduction, but further modifications of reducing charge recombination and increasing active sites are still needed. Herein, InVO 4 /g-C 3 N 4 (InVO-CN) heterojunction composite photocatalysts were prepared via in situ formation of InVO 4 nanoparticles on the lamellar structure of graphite carbon nitride (g-C 3 N 4) containing nitrogen (N) defects. Among these composites, 30% InVO-CN showed the best photoreduction performance for CO 2 at normal temperature and pressure without sacrificial agent (carbon monoxide, CO: 20.14 μmol g–1 h–1; methane, CH 4 : 3.46 μmol g–1 h–1), which were 1.8 and 2.8 times higher than these of pure g-C 3 N 4 and InVO 4. The excellent performance could be attributed to the enhancement of CO 2 adsorption, and most importantly, the enhanced charge carrier separation and reduction capacity induced by the formation of Z-scheme heterojunction between InVO 4 and g-C 3 N 4. In this work, intimate heterojunction interfaces between materials were formed by introducing g-C 3 N 4 with defects in InVO 4 , which provides a promising modification scheme. • n-Type CdSb is realized through indium doping. • The valley degeneracy is as large as ten for the conduction band in CdSb. • Band modeling suggests that the thermoelectric figure of merit could reach ∼1.2 at 450 K under the optimal electron concentration. Realizing high performance in both n-type and p-type materials is essential for designing efficient thermoelectric devices. However, the doping bottleneck is often encountered, i.e., only one type of conduction can be realized. As one example, p-type CdSb with high thermoelectric performance has been discovered for several decades, while its n-type counterpart has rarely been reported. In this work, the calculated band structure of CdSb demonstrates that the valley degeneracy is as large as ten for the conduction band, and it is only two for the valence band. Therefore, the n-type CdSb can potentially realize an exceptional thermoelectric performance. Experimentally, the n-type conduction has been successfully realized by tuning the stoichiometry of CdSb. By further doping indium at the Cd site, an improved room-temperature electron concentration has been achieved. Band modeling predicts an optimal electron concentration of ∼2.0 × 1019 cm−3, which is higher than the current experimental values. The effect of indium alloying on the corrosion and discharge behaviors of Mg-Al-Zn-Ga alloys is investigated via materials characterization, immersion test and electrochemical methods. The results indicate that indium alloying can effectively modify the distribution of intermetallic phases in Mg matrix via promoting the segregation of Al in the form of Mg 17 Al 12 in matrix. The addition of indium can effectively activate Mg-Al-Zn-Ga alloy evidenced by increased hydrogen evolution volume and weight loss, negative shift of corrosion and discharge potentials, increase of corrosion current density, decrease of polarization resistance and promoted Faradic efficiency. Nonetheless, excessive indium alloying (2.0 wt.%) would strikingly deteriorate the electrochemical performance of Mg-Al-Zn-Ga anode due to the exorbitant active effect. The Mg-6 wt.%Al-3 wt.%Zn-1 wt.%Ga-1 wt.%In in as-cast state with acceptable corrosion rate and desirable discharge performance is a low cost, non-toxic and well-performance magnesium alloy, which is a promising anode materials for seawater-activated batteries. The present paper indicates a numerical simulation to optimize the photovoltaic characteristics of an InGaN tandem solar cell. The cell is composed of two sub-cells p-In x Ga 1−x N/i-In x Ga 1−x N/n-In x Ga 1−x N with indium fraction (x) of 0.05 and 0.15, using sun AM1.5 illumination and SILVACO software for the simulation. The results show that there is an increase in the conversion efficiency compared to that of single-junction p-In x Ga 1−x N/i-In x Ga 1−x N/n-In x Ga 1−x N cells. We have also simulated the effect of p-doping in the top-cell, the indium composition, and the intrinsic layer thickness; on the characteristics of the tandem solar cell.
