Fluorescent detection of glutathione (GSH) in the living system has attracted much attention, but current fluorescent probes are usually exposed to the exterior environment, leading to photobleaching and premature leakage and subsequently limiting the sensitivity and photostability. Herein, luminescent metal–organic frameworks [Ru(bpy)32+encapsulated in UiO-66] coated with manganese dioxide nanosheets [MnO2NS@Ru(bpy)32+–UiO-66] were prepared by an in situ growth method and further explored to construct a GSH-switched fluorescent sensing platform. Because of the splendid fluorescence quenching ability, special probe leakage blocking role and distinguished recognition of the MnO2NS, and the improved fluorescence of Ru(bpy)32+by UiO-66, a low background, highly sensitive and selective detection of GSH with a low limit of detection as 0.28 μM was realized. At the same time, the preparation of MnO2NS@Ru(bpy)32+–UiO-66 nanocomposites is simple and less toxic, and there was no notable loss of cell survivability after being exposed to MnO2NS@Ru(bpy)32+–UiO-66 below the concentrations of 120 μg mL–1for 24 h. Consequently, the results coming from this effort suggest that the new sensing platform will have a great potential in the detection of GSH in living cells.

Laparoscopy is widely used because it induces minimal postoperative pain and facilitates rapid recovery. However, carbon dioxide (CO2) embolism is a rare but potentially fatal complication of laparoscopic surgery. Earlier reports have shown that decreased end-tidal CO2(ETCO2) and increased partial pressure of CO2might be useful indicators of CO2embolism. We herein report a case of CO2embolism after the freed bladder neck was released during laparoscopic radical prostatectomy. Sudden hemodynamic disorder and increased ETCO2combined with immediate arterial blood gas analysis led us to suspect CO2embolism, which was confirmed by the aspiration of foamy blood from the central venous catheter. The patient was successfully resuscitated and recovered well. This case illustrates that hemodynamic collapse accompanied by increased ETCO2can indicate CO2embolism.

Objectives This study presented the feasibility of oxycodone as the sole opioid for general anaesthesia in minor/moderate surgery.Methods In this prospective, observational, descriptive study, 62 patients were enrolled and received intravenous oxycodone as the sole opioid for the induction and maintenance of general anaesthesia. We observed all of these patients to determine whether oxycodone alone could provide sufficient intraoperative and postoperative analgesia, as well as to record the extubation times and adverse events.Results A total oxycodone dose of 0.316 ± 0.05 mg/kg was used for induction and maintenance of general anaesthesia. The dose could maintain haemodynamic stability during surgery and good postoperative analgesia. Oxycodone caused deep sedation (nine patients had Ramsey sedation scores ≥4), leading to respiratory depression and long stays in the post-anaesthesia care unit (PACU). The extubation time (16.9 ± 6.4 minutes) increased with increasing oxycodone doses.Conclusion Oxycodone can be used as the sole opioid for general anaesthesia in minor/moderate surgery.
