In this study, novel light emitting diode (LED)-activated periodate (PI) advanced oxidation process (AOP) at an irradiation wavelength in the ultraviolet A range (UVA, UVA-LED/PI AOP) was developed and investigated using naproxen (NPX) as a model micropollutant. The UVA-LED/PI AOP remarkably enhanced the degradation of NPX and seven other selected micropollutants with the observed pseudo-first-order rate constants ranging from 0.069 ± 0.001 to 4.50 ± 0.145 min–1at pH 7.0, demonstrating a broad-spectrum micropollutant degradation ability. Lines of evidence from experimental analysis and kinetic modeling confirmed that hydroxyl radical (•OH) and ozone (O3) were the dominant species generated in UVA-LED/PI AOP, and they contributed evenly to NPX degradation. Increasing the pH and irradiation wavelength negatively affected NPX degradation, and this could be well explained by the decreased quantum yield (ΦPI) of PI. The degradation kinetics of NPX by the UVA-LED/PI AOP in the presence of water matrices (i.e., chloride, bicarbonate, and humic acid) and in real waters were examined, and the underlying mechanisms were illustrated. A total of nine transformation products were identified from NPX oxidation by the UVA-LED/PI AOP, mainly via hydroxylation, dealkylation, and oxidation pathways. The UVA-LED/PI AOP proposed might be a promising technology for the treatment of micropollutants in aqueous solutions. The pivotal role of ΦPIduring light photolysis of PI may guide the future design of light-assisted PI AOPs.

The Pd-catalyzed multicomponent tandem reaction of β-ketonitriles, arylboronic acids and DMSO was efficiently developed, enabling access to a variety of poly substituted pyridines. The protocol shows excellent chemoselectivity, generating nicotinonitriles or symmetrical tetrasubstituted pyridines under different conditions by tandem cyclization of enaminone intermediates with β-ketonitriles or enolates, respectively, and does not require extra ammonias. This method boasts notable advantages, such as the use of commercially available or easily prepared substrates, simple conditions, a broad substrate scope, and good functional group tolerance.

We herein report an unprecedented pathway to access γ-lactams using acetonitrile analogues as coupling partners without oxidants, ligands, and Lewis acids. The reaction undergoes Rh-catalyzed C(sp2)–H addition to carbon-bound nitriles with the aid of an amide traceless auxiliary followed by an annulation sequence, featuring a broad substrate scope, good functional group tolerance, and excellent chemo/stereoselectivity. Scale-up reactions and late-stage derivatizations highlight the potential synthetic utility of this methodology. A plausible mechanism is proposed based on mechanistic investigations.

A new method for converting easy availability starting materials 2-(2-oxoindolin-3-yl)acetonitrile, arylboronic acids, and alcohols into 2-arylquinoline-4-carboxylates is reported. The procedure involves a three-component addition/ring expansion/esterification reaction in the presence of Pd(II) catalyst with high functional group tolerance under mild conditions. In addition, the photophysical properties of the resulting product were investigated and exhibited excellent polarity-sensitive fluorescence properties and AIE property.

A practical, convenient, and highly selective method of synthesizing β-ketonitriles from the Pd-catalyzed addition of organoboron reagents to dinitriles has been developed. This method provides excellent functional-group tolerance, a broad scope of substrates, and the convenience of using commercially available substrates. The method is expected to show further utility in future synthetic procedures.

Hydrochlorination of alkenes is a practical strategy for accessing organic chlorides. Herein, we report the hydrochlorination of unactivated alkenes via a hydrogen atom transfer/halogen atom transfer process using earth-abundant and biocompatible FeCl3as a chlorine source under extraordinarily mild reaction conditions. The protocol is easy to operate with notable features such as excellent chemoselectivity, remarkable efficiency, a broad substrate scope, and good functional group tolerance. Importantly, the synthetic utility is highlighted by scaled-up reactions, late-stage derivatizations of products, and the modification of sulfonamides.

Basing on a L-S phase inversion method, cellulose hollow fiber membranes were spinned using room temperature ionic liquid 1-allyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ([Amim]Cl) as solvent. The concentration of cellulose/[Amim]Cl solutions (dope) was varied from 6 to 9wt% by an increment of 1wt%. Effects of the dope concentration on the hollow fiber membranes structure and properties were investigated. Inner- and outer- surfaces morphology of the prepared membranes were observed using field emission scanning electron microscope (FESEM). Besides, various properties of the membranes, including apparent viscosity, pure water flux (PWF), retention rate (Rt), equilibrium water content (EWC), ultimate tensile strength (UTS) and elongation at break (Eb) were also tested. The results induced that, with the increase of dope concentration, the both surfaces showed more regular. Pure water flux and equilibrium water content of the membranes decreased with a increasing dope concentration, properties of retention rate, ultimate tensile strength and elongation at break showed a increased tendency oppositely.
