This article looks at the development of, and changes in, refractive error and accommodation in infancy. Combined with the functions discussed in the previous article of this series, the contents will allow practitioners to better determine the most useful age for regular eye examinations to begin. Note that there is no agreed definition of significant refractive error (ie, that which warrants correction), and this will be discussed in a later article. Reference to refractive error in this article relates to any refraction outcome. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
