The article discusses a trend of teenage girls engaging in sexual relations with members of the U.S. Armed Forces during the 1940s in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Such behavior was illegal, and the girls were sometimes tried in juvenile court and sent to reform school. Examples involving girls spending the night in hotel rooms with sailors are included. The question of why some girls were motivated to rebel against the social restrictions on female sexuality is addressed. Public health concerns regarding the spread of venereal disease are also discussed.
