In order to improve the corrosion resistance of welded joints, X90 pipeline steel joints were subjected to post-weld heat treatment at 610 °C, 640 °C, and 670 °C (holding time was 1 h). Through electrochemical corrosion and full immersion corrosion experiments, the corrosion resistance of welded joints under various conditions was tested, and the surface morphology and corrosion products of the corroded samples were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis. The experimental results show that the corrosion products of X90 pipeline steel welded joints in simulated soil solution mainly include Fe(OH)3, γ-FeOOH, α-Fe2O3, γ-Fe2O3, and a small amount of Fe3O4, FeCl3and Fe. After heat treatment at 610 °C, the corrosion current density of the parent metal, heat-affected zone, and weld metal of the joint changes from 1.081, 2.889, 2.079 (×10−5A cm−2) to 0.977, 2.211, 1.810 (×10−5A cm−2), respectively, the corrosion resistance is improved.

This study addressed the kinetics characteristics and pyrolysis behavior of waste industrial lignin in a thermogravimetric analyzer. DAEM and Coats-Redfern integration methods were employed to evaluate the kinetic parameters at varying heating rates (10–30 °C/min). The physicochemical inspection showed that the industrial lignin had excellent prospects to produce finest chemicals. The TGA results illustrated that the pyrolysis process of industrial lignin could be divided into three stages, including the water loss stage, massive decomposition stage (255–376℃), and charring stage (392–508℃). The activation energies calculated by DAEM are 12.7–23.9 kJ/mol as V/V* rose and 21–27 kJ/mol by the Coats-Redfern integration method of different pyrolysis stages. In addition, the average activation energy of the massive decomposition stage was higher than that of the charring stage. The similar activation energies calculated by both DAEM and Coats-Redfern methods confirmed the accuracy of the kinetic calculations.

High‐density planting is a strategy employed to save resources in crop production, particularly in environmentally friendly double‐season rice (Orvza sativaL.) cropping, where it promotes high grain yield and reduces required nitrogen (N) input. We conducted a field experiment in 2014–2018 to detect the combined effect of increased seedling density and reduced N input on early rice grain yield and N use efficiency (NUE). The higher basic seedling with low N input treatment (T2) had an average grain yield of 7.01 t ha−1, which was 16.3% greater than that of the control (CK). There was a strong linear relationship between grain yield and panicles m−2(R2= .82, P< .001). Grain yield increased significantly with above‐ground biomass before the full‐heading stage (R2= .79, P< .001), which in turn promoted an increase in panicles m−2(R2= .85, P< .001). Mean agronomic efficiency (AE) in the T2 treatment was 34.3 kg kg−1N, which was 48.1% higher than that in the CK treatment. Therefore, increasing seedling density from 62.5 to 176 seedlings number m−2while reducing inorganic N input in the early season resulted in significantly higher grain yield in hand‐transplanted rice production. Our results indicate that dense planting with N reduction could improve early rice grain yield and enhance NUE.

ABSTRACTThe diagnosed COVID-19 cases revealed that the incubation periods (IP) varied a lot among patients. However, few studies had emphasized on the different clinical features and prognosis of patients with different IP. A total of 330 patients with laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 were enrolled and classified into immediate onset group(IP<3 days, I group, 57 cases) and late onset group(IP>10 days, L group, 75 cases) based on IP. The difference of clinical characteristics and prognosis of the two groups were compared. There were more patients with fever in I group than in L group(P = 0.003), and counts of all the total lymphocytes, total T lymphocytes, CD4 + and CD8 + T lymphocytes were significantly different between the two groups(all P < 0.01). Besides, patients in L group had more GGOs in CT scan than I group and there were more patients in I group receiving antibiotic treatment than in L group(P < 0.001). For disease aggravation, the median CT scores were comparable between the two groups, but individually, there were more patients with increased CT score during hospitalization in I group than in L group. The aggravation incidence of CT presentation was 21.1% in I group, significantly higher than L group(8.0%, P = 0.042). Multivariable COX models suggested that IP was the only independent factors for CT aggravation. Conclusively, patients with different IP were different in clinical symptoms, laboratory tests, and CT presentations. Shorter IP was associated with the aggravation of lung involvement in CT scan.

Sustainably feeding a growing population is a grand challenge, and one that is particularly difficult in regions that are dominated by smallholder farming. Despite local successes, mobilizing vast smallholder communities with science- and evidence-based management practices to simultaneously address production and pollution problems has been infeasible. Here we report the outcome of concerted efforts in engaging millions of Chinese smallholder farmers to adopt enhanced management practices for greater yield and environmental performance. First, we conducted field trials across China’s major agroecological zones to develop locally applicable recommendations using a comprehensive decision-support program. Engaging farmers to adopt those recommendations involved the collaboration of a core network of 1,152 researchers with numerous extension agents and agribusiness personnel. From 2005 to 2015, about 20.9 million farmers in 452 counties adopted enhanced management practices in fields with a total of 37.7 million cumulative hectares over the years. Average yields (maize, rice and wheat) increased by 10.8–11.5%, generating a net grain output of 33 million tonnes (Mt). At the same time, application of nitrogen decreased by 14.7–18.1%, saving 1.2 Mt of nitrogen fertilizers. The increased grain output and decreased nitrogen fertilizer use were equivalent to US$12.2 billion. Estimated reactive nitrogen losses averaged 4.5–4.7 kg nitrogen per Megagram (Mg) with the intervention compared to 6.0–6.4 kg nitrogen per Mg without. Greenhouse gas emissions were 328 kg, 812 kg and 434 kg CO2equivalent per Mg of maize, rice and wheat produced, respectively, compared to 422 kg, 941 kg and 549 kg CO2equivalent per Mg without the intervention. On the basis of a large-scale survey (8.6 million farmer participants) and scenario analyses, we further demonstrate the potential impacts of implementing the enhanced management practices on China’s food security and sustainability outlook.

AbstractRice production in China has more than tripled in the past five decades mainly due to increased grain yield rather than increased planting area. This increase has come from the development of high-yielding varieties and improved crop management practices such as nitrogen fertilization and irrigation. However, yield stagnation of rice has been observed in the past ten years in China. As its population rises, China will need to produce about 20% more rice by 2030 in order to meet its domestic needs if rice consumption per capita stays at the current level. This is not an easy task because several trends and problems in the Chinese rice production system constrain the sustainable increase in total rice production. Key trends include a decline in arable land, increasing water scarcity, global climate change, labor shortages, and increasing consumer demand for high-quality rice (which often comes from low-yielding varieties). The major problems confronting rice production in China are narrow genetic background, overuse of fertilizers and pesticides, breakdown of irrigation infrastructure, oversimplified crop management, and a weak extension system. Despite these challenges, good research strategies can drive increased rice production in China. These include the development of new rice varieties with high yield potential, improvement of resistances to major diseases and insects, and to major abiotic stresses such as drought and heat, and the establishment of integrated crop management. We believe that a sustainable increase in rice production is achievable in China with the development of new technology through rice research.
