- Abstract
Sn1−xFexO2(x= 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 %) of the diamagnetic/ferromagnetic phase were synthesized by the conventional hydrothermal method. X-ray diffraction spectra confirm that all the samples have a tetragonal structure. Electronic distribution over the unit cell of Sn1−xFexO2showed the dependence of electronic density on the x. The crystallite size of the obtained samples was in the range of 42–72 nm. Impedance spectroscopy was employed to investigate the variation of the electrical impedance and some related parameters as frequency functions in the range of 75 k Hz–10 MHz at room temperature. The dielectric behavior was explained using the Maxwell–Wagner model of interfacial polarization. The ac conductivity results were used to evaluate the maximum barrier height, the minimum hopping distance, and the density of the localized states at the Fermi level. The effect of adding the iron ion into the tin dioxide compound was apparent, as the electrical and magnetic properties as well as the morphology were affected, although the crystal structure phase still has the same tetragonal crystal system for the different iron concentration (Fe from x= 0 up to x= 0.04) with slight variation in the lattice constants. The magnetic measurements illustrated that the Fe-doped SnO2nanoparticles exhibit ferromagnetic ordering at room temperature. Variation of the Fe content affects the ferromagnetic characteristics of the samples.

- Abstract
Volt-per-hertz (
) scalar control is one the simplest control structures developed for operating induction motor drives. This paper presents the development and performance testing of a$V/f$ scalar control for induction motor drives that are fed by$V/f$ wavelet modulated dc-ac power electronic converters. The wavelet modulation technique is typically characterized by the maximum resolution level ($3\phi$ ) and scale-time interval factor ($J$ ). The magnitude of the output voltage of a three phase wavelet modulated inverter is directly dependent on$\gamma$ , while the number of switching pulses, over a half cycle of the output voltage, is related to$J$ . These two factors of the wavelet modulation technique can be adjusted to implement a$\gamma$ scalar control of induction motor drives. The$V/f$ scalar control of a wavelet modulated dc-ac PEC is implemented for performance testing using induction motor drives under different operating conditions. Performance results demonstrate stable, dynamic, and accurate responses, with minor sensitivities to the load torque and/or initial and final speeds. Furthermore, test results demonstrate the ability to enhance the efficiency using the tested scalar control.$V/f$ - Published

- Abstract
Geomagnetically induced currents (GICs) are currents dominated by dc components that flow through grounding circuits into power systems. These currents are typically initiated by geomagnetic disturbances, and flow into power systems through power transformers with grounded windings. The flow of a GIC through a power transformer creates adverse impacts, including high levels of harmonic distortion in the currents flowing through the grounded windings, overheating of transformer windings, and significant disruptions in the reactive power flow through the affected transformer. Adverse impacts of GICs on power transformers depend on various factors, among which are the core design (multi-cores, 3-limb, or 5-limb), configuration of primary and secondary windings, and loading levels. This article presents and discusses the effects of loading levels on the harmonic distortion due to GIC flows in power transformers. Tests are carried out using a laboratory power transformer with multi-core (three single phase transformers). Various values of GIC flows are tested for different loading levels. Test results conclude that the loading levels have minor ifluence on the harmonic distortion created by the GIC flow. In addition, test results show that the
harmonic component remains the dominant harmonic component due to the GIC flow in a power transformer, regardless of the loading level.$2{\text{nd}}$ - Published

- Abstract
Volt-per-hertz (
) control is one the simplest control structures developed for operating electric motor drives, including permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drives. This paper presents the development and testing of a$V\!\!/\!f$ control for PMSM drives that utilize a$V\!\!/\!f$ wavelet modulated (WM) dc-ac power electronic converter (PEC). The wavelet modulation technique is characterized by the maximum scale ($3\phi$ ) and scale-time interval factor ($J$ ). The output voltage of a$\gamma$ WM dc-ac PEC has its magnitude directly dependent on$3\phi$ , while its frequency and phase are dependent to$J$ . These two parameters of the wavelet modulation technique can be used to implement a$\gamma$ control for PMSM drives. The proposed$V\!\!/\!f$ control is featured with a stabilizing loop to correct the$V\!\!/\!f$ ratio, and improve the stability of the controlled PMSM drive. The$V\!\!/\!f$ control for a PMSM drive fed by a wavelet modulated dc-ac PEC, is implemented for performance testing using a laboratory 10$V\!\!/\!f$ PMSM drive under different operating conditions. Performance results demonstrate stable, dynamic, and accurate responses, with minor sensitivities to the load torque and/or speed changes. Furthermore, test results demonstrate the ability to enhance the efficiency using the tested control for PMSM drives.$-hp$ - Published

- Abstract
The introduction of load-side control actions, to implement smart grid functions or integrate distributed generation units, has created a new source for power system dynamic events. Such events can have the capacity to adversely impact the stability in power systems. The growing interests in load-side control actions mandate the analysis and modeling of their contribution to voltage and frequency dynamics in power systems. This paper presents the analysis, development, and testing of a voltage-survivability based method for modeling the contributions of load-side control actions to power system voltage dynamics and stability. The developed method is structured using a voltage-survivability index
that is defined at bus in terms of the difference in reactive power injection before and after a load-side control action. The boundary values of the index$\boldsymbol{\Gamma}_{\boldsymbol{V}}$ are derived in order to identify survivable and non-survivable load-side control actions. The voltage-survivability based method is implemented and tested for the Barbados power system. Performance tests are conducted for integrating distributed generation units, as well as implementing demand response at several load buses. Results of conducted tests demonstrate the ability of voltage-survivability based method to accurately model and quantify the impacts of load-sides activities on the bus voltages in the test power system.$\boldsymbol{\Gamma}_{\boldsymbol{V}}$ - Published

- Abstract
AbstractCyclin-dependent kinase 5 (CDK5) is a proline-directed serine–threonine protein kinase vital for neuronal cell cycle arrest and differentiation. It activates by binding with p35 and p39 and is important for the functioning of the nervous system. A growing body of evidence suggests that CDK5 contributes to the onset and progression of neurodegeneration and tumorigenesis and represents itself as a potential therapeutic target. Our research illustrates virtual screening of phytochemicals from the IMPPAT (Indian Medicinal Plants, Phytochemistry and Therapeutics) library to search for potential inhibitors of CDK5. Initially, the compounds from the parent library were filtered out via their physicochemical properties following the Lipinski rule of five. Then sequentially, molecular docking-based virtual screening, PAINS filter, ADMET, PASS analysis, and molecular dynamics (MD) simulation were done using various computational tools to rule out adversities that can cause hindrances in the identification of potential inhibitors of CDK5. Finally, two compounds were selected via the extensive screening showing significant binding with CDK5 ATP-binding pocket and ultimately were selected as potent ATP-competitive inhibitors of CDK5. Finally, we propose that the elucidated compounds Desmodin and Isopongachromene can be used further in the drug discovery process and act as therapeutics in the medical industry to treat certain complex diseases, including cancer and neurodegeneration.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. - Abstract
The performance of partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide (HPAM), which is the most commercially used polymer in drag reduction (DR) applications, is affected by several factors. These factors include Reynolds number, polymeric concentration, molecular weight, and, more importantly, salinity conditions, which can dramatically impact the polymeric structure and its behavior. In the current work, a deep analysis is done on the performance of HPAM at salinity levels mimicking industrial conditions by using an industrial-scale fluid flow loop and a rotational rheometer. The impact of salinity on DR performance and degradation rates of HPAM was investigated at various molecular weights and a fixed concentration and then fitted with exponential decay models. Then, measurements of DR of the additives alone at different concentrations as well as blends of two salt-resisting polymers, i.e., xanthan gum (XG) and poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO), were analyzed in tap water and in brine at different mass ratios. Our results showed that the presence of salts led to the drop of the DR of HPAM to almost half its value in tap water, while PEO was found to have an increase in the DR, and XG maintained nearly the same performance. The HPAM–XG mixtures had higher levels of improvement in both media and a slight improvement in the DR in brine over those of HPAM measurements alone. In the case of the HPAM–PEO mixture, the DR is substantially increased compared to HPAM alone. The results of this work confirm that conventional solutions, represented by the physical mixing of HPAM with inexpensive and environmentally friendly additives, are possible and can lead to a massive reduction in energy and freshwater consumption in industrial applications such as hydraulic fracturing.

- Abstract
Geomagnetically induced currents (GICs) flow through grounding circuits into power systems, when triggered by geomagnetic disturbances. Power transformers (with grounding connections) are the primary path for GIC flows into power systems. The flow of GICs through a power transformer can create adverse impacts on its operation, including large increases in its reactive power demands and significant harmonic distortions in the primary side currents. This article presents case studies and analyses of the adverse impacts of GIC flows on power transformers. Presented case studies are conducted on two power transformers with different core types, power ratings, and voltage ratings. Each of these power transformers is tested for various levels of GIC flows with its loading being kept unchanged. Results of conducted case studies conclude that the
nd harmonic is the dominant in primary and side currents at all levels of GIC flows. Other harmonic components such as the$\text{2}$ rd,$\text{3}$ th,$\text{4}$ th harmonic components, can be observed with lower magnitudes than the$ \text{5th},\ \text{6th},\ \text{7th}\ \text{and}\ \text{8}$ nd harmonic component.$\text{2}$ - Published

- Abstract
Time-frequency based digital protective relays can offer several advantages of high accuracy, improved reliability, and fast response over other protective relays. These protective relays employ half-band digital finite impulse response (FIR) filters to process currents and/or voltages to extract fault signatures, which facilitate accurate detection and identification of fault events. Coefficients of the employed half-band digital FIR filters are determined by wavelet or phaselet functions. The signal processing part in a time-frequency based digital protective relay processes samples of measured currents and/or voltages. As a result, attention has to be paid to the measurement, digitization, and communication of current and voltage data. Power systems utilize the IEC 61850 standard to implement data communication between measurement, control, and protection devices. This article assesses the impacts of the IEC 61850 sampled values on the accuracy and response speed of time-frequency based digital protective relays. The presented assessment is conducted for two sample cases; the transformer differential protection and arcing current fault detection and identification. Test results show that the accuracy and response speed of time-frequency based digital protective relays are maintained, when measured currents and voltages are communicated using the IEC 61850 sampled values.

- Abstract
The growing interests in utilizing Photovoltaic (PV) systems are usually faced with challenges of accurate and reliable protection of these distributed generation units. A desired protection of PV systems has to effectively and accurately detect and respond to internal faults (within the PV system) and external faults (in the host grid and/or fed loads). This article presents and tests the performance of a digital ground fault protection (DGFP) for grid-connected PV systems. The presented DGFP detects faults based on the energy contents of high frequency sub-bands of the ground current. These energy contents are extracted using the phaselet transform that can process signals with non-stationary variations in their phases. Energy contents of the high frequency sub-bands can provide accurate, fast, and reliable detection and identification of faults experienced by a PV system operated. The phaselet transform (PHT)-based DGFP is implemented for performance testing using PV systems that are operated in the grid-connected mode, and subjected to various fault and non-fault events. Performance results demonstrate accurate, fast, and reliable detection and response to different types of fault and non-fault events. Response features of the PHT-based DGFP are complimented with minor sensitivity to the level of power production and/or type and location of faults.

- Abstract
The synthesis and characterization of naphthalimide Bis-Schiff bases (5a) and (5b) using a dual approach comprising computational and experimental techniques. The synthesized Bis-Schiff base compounds (5)were successfully characterized using UV–visible, fluorescence, Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR), and 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopies. In ethanol solvent, the experimental absorption peak was observed at 339 nm for compound 5aand at 341 and 433 nm for compound 5b. The computationally calculated absorption peak for compounds 5awas at ~ 343 nm and those for 5bwere at 337 and 425 nm. The fluorescence emission bands of compounds 5aand 5bwere observed at 383 and 549 nm, respectively, at an excitation wavelength of 338 nm. Additionally, quantum chemical studies of the synthesized compounds were performed to study their molecular structures linear optical and nonlinear optical (NLO) response properties. The molecular geometries were optimized to minimum energy ground state. Compounds 5aand 5bshowed third-order NLO polarizability amplitudes of 391.8 × 10–36and 489.0 × 10–36esu, respectively, which are significantly larger than those of some standard NLO compounds. The results indicate that the Bis-Schiff base is a promising molecule for use in electronic and optoelectronic devices and biosensors.

- Abstract
In industrial applications such as hydraulic water fracking, polymers are added at dilute concentrations to the flow causing significant drag reduction (DR) and leading to a massive reduction to pump energy cost. In recent years, an alternative approach that is based on rotational flow has shown capabilities of measuring DR based purely on rheological testing. Nonetheless, there are some limiting assumptions in this approach that can lead to inaccurate interpretation of the data, especially for non-Newtonian polymer solutions, where the Reynolds number (Re) is evaluated at the infinite-shear or solvent viscosities. However, it is well known that the apparent viscosity of the polymer solutions is higher than that of a solvent at a stable region and lower than infinite shear viscosity at an unstable one. In this study, we propose a theoretical form of the DR expression that is based on the Re, which is estimated at the apparent local viscosity measure. The work establishes a promising approach for screening DR agents using rheological measurements. Moreover, the study presents new theoretical findings and analyses for estimating DR and extrapolating the results to high Re. Two polymer solutions of xanthan gum (XG) and partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide (HPAM) in distilled water are tested at concentrations between 5 and 150 ppm using a concentric double-gap cylinder. The proposed approach is found to be more consistent with the theory of linear flow (i.e., flow loop), where the DR in the stable region is found to be identically zero. The transition from stable to unstable regions is also consistent with the existing linear flow theory. This enhances the role of rheological testing for DR measurements and DR agent screening, which provides a platform for the application of simple and cost-effective rheometry in the DR industry.

- Abstract
Since its outbreak in early 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic has diverted resources from non-urgent and elective procedures, leading to diagnosis and treatment delays, with an increased number of neoplasms at advanced stages worldwide. The aims of this study were to quantify the reduction in surgical activity for indeterminate thyroid nodules during the COVID-19 pandemic; and to evaluate whether delays in surgery led to an increased occurrence of aggressive tumours.

- Abstract
This paper presents the experimental performance assessment of the
-based bus differential protection (BDP). This protection is developed for buses that interconnect battery storage systems (BSSs). The tested BDP employs$\alpha \beta 0$ components of the apparent powers flowing in all branches that are connected to the protected bus. The$\alpha \beta 0$ components of apparent powers allow accommodating frequent changes in the direction of power flows due to the charging/discharging modes of the BSS operation. In each branch connected to the protected bus, the$\alpha \beta 0$ apparent powers are determined using the measured branch currents and voltage (at the protected bus). The$3\phi$ -based BDP is implemented using a digital processing board for experimental testing for a laboratory setup. The test setup is composed of a bus that interconnects a 4 kW BSS, and feeds$\alpha \beta 0$ linear and dynamic loads. The performance of the$3\phi$ -based BDP is assessed for responding to various internal and external faults occurring during the charging and discharging of the BSS. Experimental results reveal encouraging abilities of the tested BDP to initiate fast, accurate, and reliable responses to internal and external faults. Observed response features are complimented with a negligible sensitivity to the BSS mode of operation, fault type, and/or fault location.$\alpha \beta 0$ - Published

- Abstract
This paper develops a survivability-based protection for three phase permanent magnet synchronous motor drives against severe dynamic events. The proposed protection is based on defining a survivability index
that is expressed in terms of power changes resulting from a dynamic event, which is experienced by the protected motor drive. The index$\Gamma _{\text{PMSM}}$ establishes an accurate measure to detect, identify, and respond to dynamic events that a three phase permanent magnet synchronous motor drive may not survive. The validity, effectiveness, and accuracy of the survivability-based protection for three phase permanent magnet synchronous motor drives are assessed through simulation and experimental testing. Assessment tests are carried out using a 10 hp laboratory three phase permanent magnet synchronous motor drive under various dynamic events. Assessment results demonstrate the efficacy and responsiveness of the survivability-based protection to unsurvivable dynamic events, and its ability to prevent damage to different components of a three phase permanent magnet synchronous motor drive.$\Gamma _{\text{PMSM}}$ - Published

- Abstract
Photovoltaic (PV) panels and their grid-connection circuitries have to be grounded to comply with various standards and industrial codes. Objectives of grounding a PV system include limiting ground currents and potentials, supporting the operation of protective devices therein, and preventing the accumulation of static charges on PV panels. These objectives can be translated into design constraints for an impedance to connect a PV system to the ground. This paper presents the design and performance assessment of a frequency selective grounding (FSGR) for grid-connected PV systems. The proposed FSGR is composed of a parallel
,$R$ , and$L$ circuit, which provides a resistive path for dc currents and a low capacitive impedance path for harmonic currents. The FSGR is designed and experimentally tested for a 2 kW,$C$ , laboratory grid-connected PV system under fault and non-fault conditions. The performance of the proposed grounding is also compared with the solid grounding under similar conditions to further assess its capabilities. Experimental results show that the FSGR can reduce ground currents, limit ground potentials, and reduce the dc leakage currents. These observed features are complimented with minor effects on the operation of protective devices in a grid connected PV system.$3\phi$ - Published

- Abstract
This paper presents performance assessment of ground fault protection for systems supplied by a transformer, which has frequency-selective grounding. Frequency-selective grounding is a new grounding system that is designed to act as a solid-grounding for high frequency currents, and as a low resistance-grounding for low frequency currents. This grounding system is composed from a parallel
circuit with an equivalent impedance able to affect system zero-sequence currents and ground potentials. Such effects on zero-sequence currents and ground potentials can directly impact the accuracy and response speed of ground fault protection. Effects of frequency-selective grounding on ground fault protection are experimentally assessed for different fault and non-fault events, when the transformer supplies linear and non-liner loads. Experimental results demonstrate responses of various implementations of ground fault protection to fault and non-fault events, when the protected system has frequency selective grounding. Moreover, presented results and discussions aim to demonstrate the ability of frequency-selective grounding to support the operation of ground fault protection during different loading conditions and fault events.$R-C$ - Published

- Abstract
This paper experimentally evaluates responses of ground fault protection for synchronous generators, which are grounded using frequency-selective grounding. Frequency-selective grounding is designed to provide a low ground impedance path (similar to solid grounding) for high frequency zero-sequence current components. This grounding system also provides an impedance similar to a low-resistance grounding for low frequency zero-sequence current components. The frequency-dependent equivalent impedance of frequency-selective grounding can affect ground potential and current, which are typically used as inputs for ground fault protective relays. Effects of frequency-selective grounding on ground fault protection are experimentally evaluated using a 7.5 kVA synchronous generator. Experimental tests are conducted for different implementations of ground fault protection, when responding to fault and non-fault events. Evaluation results detailed in this paper demonstrate the negligible effects of frequency-selective grounding on responses of different ground fault protective relays.

24. Maximum Resolution Based Method for Balancing Capacitor Voltages in 7-Level Single Phase Flying-Capacitor Wavelet Modulated Inverters
- Author

Saleh, S. A.
- Abstract
This paper develops and tests a method for balancing capacitor voltages in 7-level flying-capacitor (FC) inverters, which are operated by the wavelet modulation (WM) technique. This multi-level inverter has two capacitors in each pole, whose voltages deviate due to changes in its loading level. In order to ensure that all switching elements experience identical voltage stresses and no circulating currents, the voltage across each capacitor has to be maintained very close to its reference value. The proposed method to balance the capacitor voltage is based on adjusting the scales of resolution segmented wavelet basis functions, which are used as switching signals to operate a 7-level FC inverter. The adjustments of the scales can vary the widths and locations of switching pulses produced by the WM technique. The proposed capacitor voltage method is structured using a proportional-integral controller to adjust the scales, thus balancing the capacitor voltages. The accuracy, effectiveness, and response speed of the proposed method to balance capacitor voltage are demonstrated through simulation and experimental test cases.

- Abstract
The world is now facing intolerable damage in all sectors of life because of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. The discovery and development of anti-SARS-CoV-2 drugs have become pragmatic in the time needed to fight against this pandemic. The non-structural protein 3 is essential for the replication of transcriptase complex (RTC) and may be regarded as a possible target against SARS-CoV-2. Here, we have used a comprehensive in silico technique to find potent drug molecules against the NSP3 receptor of SARS-CoV-2. Virtual screening of 150 Isatin derivatives taken from PubChem was performed based on their binding affinity estimated by docking simulations, resulting in the selection of 46 ligands having binding energy greater than −7.1 kcal/mol. Moreover, the molecular interactions of the nine best-docked ligands having a binding energy of ≥ −8.5 kcal/mol were analyzed. The molecular interactions showed that the three ligands (S5, S16, and S42) were stabilized by forming hydrogen bonds and other significant interactions. Molecular dynamic simulations were performed to mimic an in vitro protein-like aqueous environment and to check the stability of the best three ligands and NSP3 complexes in an aqueous environment. The binding energy of the S5, S16, and S42 systems obtained from the molecular mechanics Poisson–Boltzmann surface area also favor the system's stability. The MD and MM/PBSA results explore that S5, S16, and S42 are more stable and can be considered more potent drug candidates against COVID-19 disease.

- Abstract
ABSTRACTLate Triassic plant macro-remains are extremely rare in an equatorial belt stretching across the North of Gondwana from northern South America to Arabia. Located between the Laurussian floral province to the North and the Gondwana floral province to the South, this large area, is almost entirely lacking palaeobotanical data. Thus, this region is of special interest to our knowledge of Late Triassic floral provincialism and plant distribution. Based on impressions from ferruginous crusts, the first record of identifiable plant macro-remains from the Late Triassic (Norian-Rhaetian) Minjur Formation is described, as belonging to the bennettitalean taxon Zamitesaff. persicus. This new finding at least tentatively supports palynological data, which indicated similarities between the Late Triassic (Norian) palynoflora of the Minjur Formation of the Arabian Peninsula on the southern shores of the Tethys and the Norian palynoflora of Iran, during this time located in the northern part of the Tethys.

- Abstract
Study design: Systematic review and meta-analysis.Objectives: Cervical spine endoscopic discectomy and decompression have gained popularity in the last decade. This review aimed to shed light on the current outcomes of cervical spine endoscopic procedures for degenerative disc disease (DDD) and to calculate a pooled estimate of various outcome measures. Methods: We retrieved articles published in English related to endoscopic cervical spine procedures from 3 central databases from inception until September 2020. A subgroup analysis based on the anterior versus the posterior approach was performed. Results: Thirty-one articles fulfilled the eligibility criteria and included 1,410 patients. A successful outcome was observed in 91.3% (88.6-93.4%, P= 0.000). This percentage was lower for the anterior approach (89.6% [85.8-92.5%], P= 0.000) than for the posterior approach (94.2% [90.4-96.5%], P= 0.000). A higher percentage of poor outcomes was reported for the anterior approach (5.7% [3.2-10.1%], P= 0.000 vs. 2.3% [1-5.5%], P= 0.000 for the posterior approach). The overall complication rate was 7.2% (5.2-9.8%, P= 0.000). There was a slightly higher complication rate for the anterior approach (7.9% [4.5-13.3%], P= 0.000) than for the posterior approach (6.7% [4.4-10%], P= 0.000). The revision rate was 4.2% (2.6-6.8%, P= 0.000); and 4.2% (1.8-9.7%, P= 0.000) for the anterior approach and 4.00% (2.2-7.4%, P= 0.000) for the posterior approach. Conclusions: There is a higher success rate and lower complication rate with the posterior approach than with the anterior approach. However, high-quality randomized controlled trials are vital to evaluate the efficacy of these procedures.

- Abstract
The hydrogen adsorption potential of monolayer CrTe2, both in its pristine form and when decorated with Be/Mg/2 Mg clusters, was investigated using density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The introduction of a Be atom alters the semiconductor behavior of CrTe2, while Mg adsorption affects the band gap. This study demonstrates the secure attachment of Be/Mg/2 Mg cluster atoms to CrTe2monolayers without cluster formation. Pristine CrTe2adsorbs 12, Be/Mg-decorated CrTe2adsorbs 9/10, and 2 Mg cluster-decorated CrTe2adsorbs 13 H2molecules. The adsorption energy values align with US-DOE criteria. The investigation extends to practical aspects, including the number of hydrogen molecules adsorbed and the use of molecular dynamics (MD) simulations to verify reversibility in hydrogen storage. The desorption temperature (TD) for hydrogen release is at 10 atm. Pressure is approximately 426 K for Be-decorated and 392 K for Mg-decorated monolayers, ideal for adsorption and desorption. This property makes these materials suitable for hydrogen-based fuel cell and light vehicle applications. The potential issue of CrTe2decorated with Be/Mg transitioning to metal clustering is explored through the computation of diffusion energy barriers (1.19 eV for Be, 1.07 eV for Mg), which may hinder clustering tendencies. This study suggests that pristine/Be/Mg/2 Mg cluster-decorated CrTe2monolayers show significant promise as reversible hydrogen storage media.

- Abstract
Cold stress has an immediate impact on plant structure and function. A large number of free radicals cause oxidative stress in plants. Cold stress causes altered membrane permeability, lipid peroxidation, and DNA damage. It denatures enzymes and disrupts plant metabolism. Different methods are being investigated for acclimatizing plants subjected to cold stress. Nanobiotechnology and bacterial strains are growing agricultural strategies. Nanoparticles’ (NPs) unique qualities (small size, high mobility, biocompatibility, low cost, and increased reactivity) make them ideal candidates in agriculture. NP and bacterial applications maintain plastid structure and function, enhance antioxidant activities, secondary metabolites, and hormone expression, and reduce electrolyte leakage. They increase the number and content of proteins involved in oxidation–reduction reactions, hormone pathways, stress signaling, and reactive oxygen species detoxification under cold stress conditions. Chitosan, zinc oxide, and titanium dioxide NPs can help plants with cold stress. Meanwhile, bacterial strains in the genus Bacillusand Pseudomonashave been tested for cold tolerance. These strategies also upregulate antifreeze proteins, which are essential for the storage of plant products. Nano-bio-fertilizers should be prepared for the sustainable development of plants under low temperatures.

- Abstract
In the present study, copper (II) complex of 4, 4′-di-tert-butyl-2,2′-bipyridine [Cu (C18H24N2) (NO3)2], 1is investigated through its synthesis and characterization using elemental analysis technique, infra-red spectroscopy, and single-crystal analysis. The compound 1crystallizes in orthorhombic space group P212121. The copper atom in the mononuclear complex is hexa coordinated through two nitrogen and four oxygen atoms from bipyridine ligand and nitrate ligands. The thermal analysis depicts the stability of the entitled compound up to 170 °C, and the decomposition takes place in different steps between 170 and 1000 °C. Furthermore, quantum chemical techniques are used to study optoelectronic, nonlinear optical, and therapeutic bioactivity. The values of isotropic and anisotropic linear polarizabilities of compound 1are calculated as 41.65 × 10−24and 23.02 × 10−24esu, respectively. Likewise, the static hyperpolarizability is calculated as 47.92 × 10−36esu using M06 functional compared with para-nitroaniline (p-NA) and found several times larger than p-NA. Furthermore, the antiviral potential of compound 1is studied using molecular docking technique where intermolecular interactions are checked between the entitled compound and two crucial proteins of SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19). Our investigation indicated that compound 1interacts more vigorously to spike protein than main protease (MPro) due to its better binding energy of −9.60 kcal/mol compared with −9.10 kcal/mol of MPro. Our current study anticipated that the above-entitled coordination complexes could be potential candidates for optoelectronic properties and their biological activity.

- Abstract
ABSTRACTThe use of simulation in audiology (AUD) and speech-language pathology (SLP) fields is less than its use in other health professions. This study aimed to examine the effect of the use of simulation training sessions versus video simulation case scenarios on AUD and SLP undergraduate students’ confidence in knowledge and professional competencies of the 1–3–6 early hearing detection and intervention (EHDI) timeline. A randomized pretest-posttest control group study design was used to assess self-ratings of confidence for specific knowledge and professional competencies. Thirty-four undergraduate students (AUD = 24; SLP = 10) participated in this study. The mean age of the participants was 20.09 years (SD = ±0.79, range: 19–21 years). All AUD and SLP participants attended a lecture and then were divided into two groups: the experimental group had simulation activities, while the control group watched video-recorded scenarios followed by a discussion session. Statistically significant differences (improvements) of students’ confidence in knowledge and professional competencies were detected in both groups. The mean difference between pre- and post-test scores for the experimental group was 0.59 (p < 0.001), and it was 0.91 (p < 0.001) for the control group. The use of simulation training sessions or video simulation case sceneries can facilitate student learning. Video simulation case scenarios are feasible for teaching the 1–3–6 EHDI timeline and offer similar situations to simulation training sessions. AUD and SLP programs are encouraged to use both teaching methods.

35. Benzene, Toluene, and Monosubstituted Derivatives: Diabatic Nature of the Oscillator Strengths of S1← S0Transitions

- Abstract
For benzene, toluene, aniline, fluorobenzene, and phenol, even sophisticated treatments of electron correlation, such as MRCI and XMS-CASPT2 calculations, show oscillator strengths typically lower than experiment. Inclusion of a simple pseudo-diabatization approach to perturb the S1state with approximate vibronic coupling to the S2state for each molecule results in more accurate oscillator strengths. Their absolute values agree better with experiment for all molecules except aniline. When the coupling between the S1and S2states is strong at the S0geometry, the simple diabatization scheme performs less well with respect to the oscillator strengths relative to the adiabatic values. However, we expect the scheme to be useful in many cases where the coupling is weak to moderate (where the maximum component of the coupling has a magnitude less than 1.5 au). Such calculations give an insight into the effects of vibronic coupling of excited states on UV/vis spectra.

- Abstract
We present a case of neglected trigger thumb in a forty-year-old male. The patient presented to our clinic due to bilateral triggering of his fourth digit. He attested to having pain and limitation of joint movement of his left thumb since his childhood in the former Soviet Union, with occasional triggering. This eventually subsided and the thumb became stuck in relative flexion and could not be fully extended. We performed X-rays of both thumbs wherein the left affected thumb interphalangeal joint showed an aberrant configuration and sclerosis of both joint surfaces. The joint surface curvature was altered on the left side and contact area reduced. This presentation of altered thumb interphalangeal joint biomechanics following an untreated congenital trigger thumb further emphasizes the need for surgical intervention when indicated.

- Abstract
The aim of this article is to form new existence theory for globalsolutions to nonlinear fractional differential equations. Traditional approaches to existence, uniqueness and approximation of global solutions for initial value problems involving fractional differential equations have been unwieldy or intractable due to the limitations of previously used methods. This includes, for example, certain invariance conditions of the underlying local fixed point strategies. Herein we draw on an alternative tactics, applying the more modern ideas of continuation methods for contractive maps to fractional differential equations. In doing so, we shed new light on the situation, producing these new perspectives through a range of novel theorems that involve sufficient conditions under which global existence, uniqueness, approximation and location of solutions are ensured.

- Abstract
A sequential one‐pot direct strategy for the synthesis of 2‐hydroxy‐2‐substituted‐2H‐benzo[b][1,4]oxazin‐3(4H)‐ones is developed under ambient conditions with moderate to good yields (up to 75 %) by regioselective ring‐opening of spiro‐epoxy/aziridine oxindoles with 50 % aq. H2O2followed by rearrangement reaction in presence of amberlyst‐15 catalyst. Further, sequential reaction with aldehydes/ketones and carbonyldiimidazole (CDI) gave spiro[benzo[b][1,4]oxazine‐2,4′‐[1,3]dioxolan]‐3(4H)‐ones and spiro[benzo[b][1,4]oxazine‐2,4′‐[1,3]dioxolane]‐2′,3(4H)‐diones, respectively. A sequential one‐pot reaction of spiro‐aziridine/epoxy oxindoles with aq. H2O2followed by with amberlyst‐15 catalyst directly gave 2‐hydroxy‐2‐substituted‐2H‐benzo[b][1,4]oxazin‐3(4H)‐ones and subsequent reaction with either aldehydes/ketones or carbonyldiimidazole (CDI) gave spiro[benzo[b][1,4]oxazine‐2,4′‐[1,3]dioxolan]‐3(4H)‐ones or spiro[benzo[b][1,4]oxazine‐2,4′‐[1,3]dioxolane]‐2′,3(4H)‐diones, respectively.

- Abstract
The present study is an attempt to investigate the tribological behavior of friction stir processing (FSP) AA6061-T6 alloy reinforced with boron carbide (B4C) particles. The surface composites were developed to investigate wear performance and surface roughness under dry sliding conditions. The experiments were conducted using response surface methodology (RSM) to examine the effects of various B4C volume fractions, applied loads, and sliding distances. All combinations of reinforcements in AA6061-T6 hybrid composites show a good improvement in the wear properties. The results show that the wear behavior of composites is significantly impacted by the incorporation of B4C particles. This is mostly owing to the uniformity that the B4C particles developed when they distributed the reinforcements evenly in the AA 6061-T6 matrix. Analysis of variance, main effect and three-dimensional plots were used to quantify the effects of dry sliding parameters on tribological properties. The findings showed that the optimal parameters for the effective reduction of specific wear rate and coefficient of friction were a volume fraction of 10%, an applied load of 20 N, and a sliding distance of 500 m. To minimize surface roughness, the optimal test conditions were found to be 10% volume fraction, 40 N applied load, and 2500 m sliding distance. The wear surface was analyzed using energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDX) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results showed that oxide layer formation was present on the wear surface and adhesive wear was the primary wear mechanism.

- Abstract
The increase in energy demand and the dynamics of the energy transition have changed the perspectives and opportunities within the oil and gas sector. This revolutionary scenario has resulted in sustainable and consolidated strategies, exemplified by the development of enhanced oil recovery (EOR) methods within the improved oil recovery (IOR) scheme, and specifically for this Review study in the steam-assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) techniques. The selection and impact of the EOR methods, as well as the expected recovery, rely on multiple factors, encompassing economic, environmental, and technological considerations. The above has led to the simultaneous appearance of uncertainties and difficulties that are continuously challenging the ranking of the oil sector in the global energy market. Against this background, nanotechnology has been established as a feasible strategy to be integrated into multiple stages of the oil supply chain. This Review study has focused on highlighting the synergistic trends of nanotechnology, steam, and oil recovery by conducting bibliometric analysis, where a tendency of the number of publications has increased in the last three years, as evidence of the application of nanotechnology in the oil industry. We have also carried out comprehensive discussions on the most widely implemented conventional thermal oil recovery methods with the dual purpose of explaining their methodologies and, at the same time, highlighting their inherent limitations and the imperative requirements to optimize them. In this direction, we have presented an in-depth exploration of the physicochemical mechanisms of action of nanoparticles to underscore the prospects for their applications in the EOR technologies. Finally, we contextualized the economic and technical feasibility of incorporating nanoparticles into industry, alongside advancements in simulation studies, presented as robust and cost-effective research alternatives, offering a more well-founded perspective on the scalability of nanoparticle technology.

- Abstract
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the commonest malignancy in Egypt secondary to endemic hepatitis virus. Dual malignancy with HCC is infrequently reported. We herein retrospectively collected data of HCC patients with another primary tumor from a tertiary cancer center. Fifteen patients were enrolled in this case series, epidemiologic data, type of second malignancy, time interval between both tumors, treatment applied, and pattern of recurrence and survival are displayed. Third of the tumors were synchronous, while in the rest HCC was mostly the second malignancy. Breast cancer was the commonest encountered other primary. None of the second malignancies recurred after treatment except for prostate cancer which was not treated radically. The median overall survival of the patients was shorter than previously published series about 29 months. In conclusion, dual malignancy with HCC had more complicated treatment panels; however, they are not necessarily carrying a worse prognosis. HCC tumor outcome remains the main predictor of survival.

- Abstract
Background: Due to hormonal and immunological changes, a paucity of conclusive literature, and other factors, managing melanoma during pregnancy is not a simple task. Additionally, when selecting treatment plans for patients who are pregnant, the risk of surgical intervention and anesthesia must be carefully evaluated. Case presentation: We present a 27-year-old lady who was diagnosed with a T4 leg melanoma while carrying twins. Under spinal anesthesia, the patient underwent a wide local excision (WLE) and a video endoscopic inguinal lymphadenectomy (VEIL). The procedure went smoothly and had no negative consequences on the mother or the fetuses. The tissues' pathological analysis revealed persistent melanoma foci with clear surgical margins and no involvement of the inguinal lymph nodes at the tumor site. Conclusion: This instance emphasizes the difficulties in treating melanoma in pregnant ladies and the value of using a multidisciplinary approach to select safe and efficient treatment modalities. To the best of our knowledge, this is the second case report of VEIL during pregnancy overall and the first case report of VEIL during twin pregnancy.

Background: Nanotechnology exploits materials and devices with a functional organization that has been engineered at the nanometre scale. The application of nanotechnology in neuroscience involves specific interactions with neurons and glial cells. This property is used for delivering drugs and other small molecules (such as genes, oligonucleotides and contrasting agents) across the blood brain barrier (BBB), an important requirement for delivering the drug successfully to the brain. Objective: Nanotechnology based approaches (NBA) favours transcytosis-mediated delivery of nanoparticles to the brain by crossing the BBB. The last five years have witnessed the successful applications of NBA to treat neurological disorders. It is expected that the development of novel NBA will result in important insights on the brain mechanisms, and eventually provide better medical care to patients suffering from neurological disorders. Conclusion: This review introduces the emerging work in this area and summarizes the successful NBA used in recent past for treating various neurological disorders ike Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, meningitis and glioblastoma.
