Algae plays a vital role as bio-fertilizer and soil stabilizer in the field of agriculture. This paper considers a fractal–fractional dynamics model in sense of Caputo derivative that study the reuse of detritus generated by the dead algae as fertilizer for crop. In particular, we study dynamics model in which algae recovers nitrogen and phosphorus (waste nutrients) from water and is reused to enhance agricultural production. The theoretical results are established for the considered model with the aid of fixed point theory, whereas Ulam–Hyers approach is used for the stability of system. The numerical simulations are computed by using the well-known technique of fractional Adams–Bashforth. For simulation of the problem we consider different values for fractional order and fractal dimension by using some pre-existing data. The agricultural use of biochar has been the focus of much research in the last decade due to the improvement of soil chemical, physical, and biological attributes. Nonetheless, Brazil still has no specific legislation for biochar, limiting its agricultural use. The objective of the present work is to evaluate the use of biochar produced from spent coffee grounds (SCG) and coffee parchment (CP) by slow pyrolysis at 700°C according to the existing framework of the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Food Supply (MAPA) legislation for organic fertilizer, soil conditioner or plant substrate. Biochar was characterized according to normative instructions No. 17, 31, 61, 7, 5 and 35. Although not required by the addressed legislation, the semitotal content of macro- and micronutrients was also determined. While CP biochar could be used as an organic fertilizer or plant substrate, SCG biochar, due to its higher Ni content and lower than required cation exchange capacity (CEC), did not meet MAPA legislation criteria to allow for its agricultural use. Future regulations can be based on the current standards, and structural attributes, such as total C content, particle size distribution, and complete macro-and micronutrient determination should be included. Further research may also indicate the viability of biochar use as a soil conditioner based on a more representative set of biomasses with a higher CEC. Previous research indicated that acceptable quality annual and perennial plant species can be grown in the landscape with low nitrogen (N) inputs. However, information on the impact of soil conditions and N use by ornamental plants grown in central Florida is lacking in the literature. Our objective was to evaluate plant growth and quality response of eight warm-season annuals, seven cool-season annuals, and four herbaceous perennial species to a range of N fertilizer rates when plants were grown in landscape beds containing native field soil or subsoil fill. A slow-release N source (42N-0P-0K) was applied every 12 weeks at annual N rates of 3, 5, or 7 lb/1000 ft² for a period of 18 weeks (annual species) or 1, 3, or 5 lb/1000 ft² for a period of 54 weeks (perennial species). Plants were evaluated for aesthetic quality every 6 weeks and shoot dry weight was measured at completion of the experiment. Dry weight production and aesthetic quality of most species evaluated was unaffected by N rate. For several species, shoot dry weight was higher when planted in the field plots containing native soil [alyssum (Lobularia maritima) 'Bada Bing White' wax begonia (Begonia xsemperflorens-cultorum), dahlberg daisy (Thymophylla tenuiloba), 'Survivor Hot Pink' geranium (Pelargonium ×hortorum), gomphrena (Gomphrena globosa), 'Blue Puffs Improved' ('Blue Danube') ageratum (Ageratum houstonianum), blanket flower (Gaillardia pulchella), goldenrod (Solidago chapmanii), 'Mystic Spires' salvia (Salvia longispicata ×farinacea)]. Quality response to soil condition was mixed over the course of the study. Several species performed as well (or better) in the field as when planted in the subsoil fill soils. These results illustrate that some landscape plant species are able to survive and thrive under various soil and fertility conditions.
