Abstract: Analysis of gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and IR spectrometry shows that the composition of organic impurities in stream and water bodies of the Tom’ basin depends on natural and anthropogenic factors. The anthropogenic load is especially important, as the organic impurities originating from oil (paraffins, isoparaffins, naphthenes, aromatic hydrocarbons) are predominant; other pollutants of anthropogenic origin are also present (phthalates, carboxylic acids and their esters, phosphates). The composition of organic pollutants dumped into the river from each industrial zone has been analyzed both qualitatively and quantitatively.

Transformer oils were analyzed at different service times by IR spectrometry and by a kinetic method using a model reaction of initiated cumene oxidation. The concentrations of an antioxidant additive (ionol) and the degrees of formation of new oxidation inhibitors in transformer oils can be differentially quantified with the use of the two techniques.

Abstract: It was shown by IR spectroscopy that 2,2′-methylenebis(4-methyl-6-tert-butylphenol) (BP) forms associates with intra-and intermolecular hydrogen bonds in the presence of chlorinated and aromatic solvents. As the polarity of the chlorinated solvents increases, the proportion of BP with intermolecular hydrogen bonding both between the BP hydroxyl groups and between the BP hydroxyl groups and acidic protons of the chlorinated hydrocarbons increases. In aromatic solvents, intramolecularly hydrogen-bonded PB prevails. In addition, intermolecularly hydrogen-bonded BP and a BP associate with the π-electron system of aromatic hydrocarbons were found, with the OH...π interaction increasing in the order C6H6 < C9H12 < C7H8, a result that is due to the spatial effect of the methyl groups of isopropylbenzene.
