The main cause of global warming is the emission of carbon dioxide from fossil fuels. Several methods to reduce CO2 emissions have been explored to ensure energy conservation. Many researchers have focused on renewable energy sources for this reason. Ground-source heat pumps (GSHPs) have emerged as a popular alternative in various sectors that utilize shallow geothermal energy sources for heating and cooling. This study presents a novel approach to enhancing the efficiency of geothermal heat exchangers, a critical component of GSHPs, through numerical simulation using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) with Ansys Fluent software. The research investigates the impact of adding four models of spiral fins to the exterior body of the heat exchanger: single spiral and double spiral configurations with pitches of 60 mm and 40 mm, respectively. Additionally, the study explores the effect of incorporating microencapsulated phase change materials (PCMs) with volume fractions of 0 %, 10 %, 30 %, and 50 % into the backfill material surrounding the heat exchanger. The results demonstrate that the double spiral fins with a 40 mm pitch significantly enhance thermal efficiency by reducing the output temperature by up to 1 °C compared to the model without fins. Furthermore, the addition of 50 % microencapsulated PCM by volume to the backfill material can further decrease the output temperature by up to 4 °K. The combined use of double spiral fins and microencapsulated PCMs results in a 7.5 % improvement in the efficiency of the heat exchanger and the coefficient of performance of the heat pump. This study highlights the potential of innovative design modifications and material enhancements to significantly improve GSHP performance for more efficient and sustainable heating and cooling solutions.

A rapid and efficient method for the synthesis of isoxazolo[5,4-d]pyrimidin-4(5H)-ones has been developed through cyclocondensation of 5-aminoisoxazole-4-carboxamides with orthoesters under conventional heating and solvent-free microwave irradiation with solid acid catalysis. In comparison, the reactions are faster and the yields are higher under microwave irradiation.

Microwave-assisted synthesis of new 2-arylpyrimido[4′,5′:4,5]thiazolo[3,2-a]benzimidazol-4(3H)-ones from 3-aminothiazolo[3,2-a]benzimidazol-2-carboxamide and aroyl halides in solvent-free condition is described. The effects of different parameters on steel plate shear wall (SPSW) are investigated. The studied parameters are thickness of plate, location of the opening, thickness of diagonal stiffeners, and thickness of circular stiffener. Load-carrying capacity of the SPSW is studied under static load using nonlinear geometrical and material analysis in ABAQUS and the obtained simulation results are verified. An artificial neural network (ANN) is proposed to model the effects of these parameters. According to the results the circular stiffener has more effect compared with the diagonal stiffeners. However, the thickness of the plate has the most significant effect on the SPSW behavior. The results show that the best place for the opening location is the center of SPSW. Multilayer perceptron (MLP) neural network was used to predict the maximum load in SPSW with opening. The predicted maximum load values using the proposed MLP model were compared with the simulated validated data. The obtained results show that the proposed ANN model has achieved good agreement with the validated simulated data, with correlation coefficient of more than 0.9975. Therefore, the proposed model is useful, reliable, fast, and cheap tools to predict the maximum load in SPSW.
