T'ai Chi is a method of activating the body for the simultaneous development of physical, emotional and mental well-being. It can promote the perceptivity, sensitive awareness and stamina of an actor. The organized system of T'ai Chi was created during the 12th century. According to the system, increasing the ability to concentrate and coordinate requires both mental and bodily powers, and heart-mind-ease must be part of, and the result of, the exercise-action. T'ai Chi is a philosophy of body development concerned with function or form and produces emotional stability through the harmony of thought and action. It is a structured composition of 108 forms, beginning in a position of utmost ease. Progress is made from form to form, and all movements are interrelated. The actor can benefit from T'ai Chi since it frees him to become what he needs or chooses to be through the mastery of the physical body.
