The contribution of positronium to the electron g-2 (ae) has been computed in G. Mishima, arXiv:1311.7109, and found to be of the same order of α as that of five-loop perturbative QED. We confirm this result and correct a few errors in its first derivation. As recently calculated in K. Melnikov, A. Vainshtein, and M. Voloshin, arXiv:1402.5690, a continuum nonperturbative contribution to ae cancels one-half of the positronium one. We show by explicit calculation that the remaining half is already included in the five-loop perturbative result. We also show that it arises from the class I(i) of five-loop diagrams containing only one closed electron loop. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We find that, in the local V--A theory, the radiative corrections to pion β-decay involving the weak vector current, when evaluated in the current algebra (CA) formulation in which quarks are the fundamental underlying fields, show a small difference with the more elementary calculations based directly on the pion fields. We show that this difference arises from a specific short-distance effect that depends on the algebra satisfied by the weak and electromagnetic currents. On the other hand, we present a simple theoretical argument that concludes that this difference does not occur when the CA formulation is compared with the chiral perturbation theory (χPT) approach. Comparisons with previous studies, and with a more recent calculation based on χPT, are included. We also briefly review the important differences between the results in the local V-A theory and the standard model. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
This paper reviews and updates the standard model prediction of the muon g-2. QED, electroweak and hadronic contributions are presented, and open questions discussed. The theoretical prediction deviates from the present experimental value by 23 standard deviations, if e+e− annihilation data are used to evaluate the leading hadronic term.

- Abstract
Although the Sensititre Yeast-One (SYO) and Etest methods are widely utilized, interpretive criteria are not available for triazole susceptibility testing of Candidaor Aspergillusspecies. We collected fluconazole, itraconazole, posaconazole, and voriconazole SYO and Etest MICs from 39 laboratories representing all continents for (method/agent-dependent) 11,171 Candida albicans, 215 C. dubliniensis, 4,418 C. glabrataspecies complex, 157 C.guilliermondii(Meyerozyma guilliermondii), 676 C. krusei(Pichia kudriavzevii), 298 C.lusitaniae(Clavispora lusitaniae), 911 C.parapsilosissensu stricto, 3,691 C.parapsilosisspecies complex, 36 C.metapsilosis, 110 C.orthopsilosis, 1,854 C.tropicalis, 244 Saccharomyces cerevisiae, 1,409 Aspergillus fumigatus, 389 A.flavus, 130 A.nidulans, 233 A.niger, and 302 A.terreuscomplex isolates.

- Abstract
Purpose: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most prevalent sustained arrhythmia. It is a disease of the elderly and it is common in patients (pts) with structural heart disease. Hypertension (HA), hypertensive heart disease (HHD), diabetes mellitus (DM), coronary artery disease (CAD), heart failure (HF), and valvular heart disease (VHD) are recognized predisposing factors to AF. Objectives: To echocardiographicly disclose the most common predisposing morbidities to AF in our population sample. Methods: From June 2000 to February 2013, 3755 consecutive pts with AF were studied during echocardiographic check-up. According to transthoracic echo, pts were divided in groups based on dominative underlying heart diseases. Electrocardiographically documented AF was subdivided in two groups: transitory and chronic. Transitory AF fulfilled criteria for paroxysmal or persistent AF. Chronic AF were cases of long-standing persistent or permanent AF. Results: The median age was 72 years, age range between 16 and 96 years. There were 51.4% of females. Chronic AF was observed in 68.3% pts. Distribution of underlying heart diseases is shown in figure. Lone AF was diagnosed in only 25 pts, mostly in younger males (median age 48 years, range 29–59, men 80%). Chronic AF was predominant in groups with advanced cardiac remodeling such as dilatative cardiomyopaty (DCM) and VHD, mostly in elderly. HA and DM were found in 75.4% and 18.8%, respectively. Almost 1/2 of pts with AF had HF and 59.2% had diastolic HF. Conclusion: Up to now, echocardiographic categorization of the predisposing factors to AF was not reported. Echocardiographic evaluation of patients with AF could facilitate in identification and well-timed treatment of predisposing comorbidites.

The τ anomalous magnetic moment a τ and electric dipole moment d τ have not yet been observed. The present bounds on their values are of order 10 − 2 and 10 − 17 e cm , respectively. We propose to measure a τ with a precision of O ( 10 − 3 ) or better and improve the existing limits on d τ using precise τ − → l − ν τ ν ¯ l γ ( l = e or μ ) data from high-luminosity B factories. A detailed feasibility study of this method is underway. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We derive the corrections induced by the W-boson propagator to the differential rates of the leptonic decay of a polarized μ and τ lepton. Results are presented both for decays inclusive of inner bremsstrahlung as well as for radiative ones, when a photon emitted in the decay process is measured. The numerical effect of these corrections is discussed. The definition of the Fermi constant GF is briefly reviewed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A confirmation of the long-standing muon g-2 discrepancy requires both experimental and theoretical progress. On the theory side, the hadronic corrections are under close scrutiny, as they induce the leading uncertainty of the Standard Model prediction. Recently, the MUonE experiment has been proposed at CERN to provide a new determination of the leading hadronic contribution to the muon g-2 via the measurement of the differential cross section of muon-electron scattering. The precision expected at this experiment raises the question whether possible new physics (NP) could affect its measurements. We address this issue studying possible NP signals in muon-electron collisions due to heavy or light mediators, depending on whether their mass is higher or lower than O(1 GeV). We analyze the former in a model-independent way via an effective field theory approach, whereas for the latter we focus on scenarios with light scalar and vector bosons. Using existing experimental bounds, we show that possible NP effects in muon-electron collisions are expected to lie below MUonE's sensitivity. This result confirms and reinforces the physics case of the MUonE proposal. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Contributions of a spin-0 axionlike particle (ALP) to lepton dipole moments, g - 2 and EDMs are examined. Barr-Zee and light-by-light loop effects from a light pseudoscalar ALP are found to be capable of resolving the longstanding muon g - 2 discrepancy at the expense of relatively large ALP - γ γ couplings. The compatibility of such large couplings with direct experimental constraints and perturbative unitarity bounds is discussed. Future tests of such a scenario are described. For C P-violating ALP couplings, the electron EDM is found to probe much smaller, theoretically more easily accommodated ALP interactions. Future planned improvement in electron EDM searches is advocated as a way to not only significantly constrain ALP parameters, but also potentially unveil a new source of C P violation which could have far-reaching ramifications.
