The low yield of indium tin oxide (ITO) thin-film deposition is an important factor in optoelectronic semiconductor production. An effective reclamation process was developed that uses ultrasonic electroetching and a designed bulge-form tool to remove the defective ITO nanostructure from the optical polyethyleneterephthalate (PET) surfaces of digital paper. In the current experiment, the assistance of ultrasonics was found to be more effective than pulsed current, requiring no increase in electric power. The large length of the bulge-form tool’s cathode, with a small gap width between the cathode and the workpiece, requires less time to do the same amount of ITO etching. The small end radius of the cathode, combined with enough electric power, results in very fast etching. Additionally, electric power, when combined with a fast feed rate, provides highly effective etching. A higher rate of removal of the defective ITO nanostructure corresponds to high temperature, a large electrolyte flow rate, or a high rotational speed of the electrodes. Importantly, ultrasonic electroetching with the designed bulge-form tool requires only a short period of time to remove the ITO’s thin-film coatings easily and cleanly.

An effective and low-cost mechanism is presented which uses electrochemical etching and design-tool electrodes as a precision recycle process of indium-tin-oxide (ITO) layer removal from the color filter surface of an optoelectronic flat-panel display instead of chemical etching. Through the ultraprecise removal of thin-film microstructure, the semiconductor optoelectronics industry can effectively recycle defective products, thereby reducing production costs. In the current experiment, the author uses a fifth-generation thin-film transistor liquid-crystal display. A large cathode diameter accompanied by a small gap width between the cathode and the workpiece takes less time for the same amount of ITO layer removal. An adequate color filter feed rate combined with sufficient electric power produces a fast etching effect. A higher electrode rotational speed, a higher temperature, or a higher concentration of the electrolyte corresponds to a higher etching rate for the ITO layer. Pulsed direct current can improve the effect of dreg discharge and is advantageous when combined with fast workpiece feed rate. However, this raises the current rating. In a short amount of time, electrochemical etching can remove the ITO layer easily and cleanly.

A new design modus using electrochemical machining as a precision recycle process of ITO layer removal from optoelectronic flat panel displays' color filter surfaceinstead of the chemical etching is developed. Through the ultra-precise removal of thin film microstructure, the semiconductor optoelectronic industry can effectively recycle defective products, reducing production costs. In the current experiment, the author takes a 5th Generation TFT-LCD for instance. A higher temperature or a higher concentration of the electrolyte corresponds to a higher removal rate for ITO layer. Pulsed direct current can improve the effect of dregs discharge and is advantageous to associate with the fast feed rate of workpiece. But raises the current rating. An adequate feed rate of color filter combine with enough electric power produces fast machining. The electrochemical machining just needs quite short time to make the ITO film remove easily and cleanly. An effective and low-cost recycle process is presented.

This paper studies the performance assessment of magnetic-assistance electrochemical finishing using an effective design system and magnetic force to the electrolyte to assist the dregs discharge on zinc alloy beyond die casting by electrochemical finishing as a finish process on the freeform surface of castings. An outer shell of toy vehicle is taken for instance in the experiment. A small distance between the two magnets or large magnetic field intensity provides larger magnetic force and discharge ability. A higher current rating with magnetic-assistance can avoid the difficulty of dreg discharge, thus reducing the finish time. Pulsed direct current can slightly promote the finishing effect, but the machining time is increased. Thus the magnetic-assistance electrochemical finishing without pulsed current is recommended for the finish process. It is a great contribution that the magnetic-assistance electrochemical finishing just needs quite short to make the freeform surface of workpiece smooth and bright.
