Abstract

The article presents the results of a clinical trial which identified the benefits to peptic ulcer patients of administering omeprazole, a proton-pump inhibitor (PPI), before an endoscopic surgery. Aside from decreasing the incidence of upper gastrointestinal rebleeding, it was found that omepraxole could shorten hospital stay after surgery. There was no correlation between omepraxole and transfusion requirements, need for surgery or incidence of recurrent bleeding.
