We consider q-matroids and their associated classical matroids derived from Gabidulin rank-metric codes. We express the generalized rank weights of a Gabidulin rank-metric code in terms of Betti numbers of the dual classical matroid associated to the q-matroid corresponding to the code. In our main result, we show how these Betti numbers and their elongations determine the generalized weight polynomials for q-matroids, in particular, for the Gabidulin rank-metric codes. In addition, we demonstrate how the weight distribution and higher weight spectra of such codes can be determined directly from the associated q-matroids by using Möbius functions of its lattice of q-flats.

Familial predisposition appears as an identified risk factor for cerebrovascular disease. The primary objective of our study was to assess intracranial aneurysm (IA) recurrence rate in a population of familial IA. Secondary objectives were first to analyse the inheritance categorisation/pattern of these families and second to assess the correlation between the aortic diameter on MRI and the aneurysmal characteristics.

The literature on propriospinal myoclonus (PSM) is poor and there are no systematic reviews of the subject. We sought to clarify the spectrum of PSM.

ABSTRACTMany tests have been conducted these last few years in the centrifuge of the LCPC centre in Nantes in order to study the behaviour of laterally loaded piles. This paper concerns a feasibility study performed in the year 2000 on a single pile submitted to lateral cyclic loads. The experimental set up, measurements and data acquisition techniques are briefly given. Analyses are focused on the obtained results concerning the influence of cycles—mainly their amplitude—on the pile stiffness, on the top displacements, on the maximal bending moment and on the P-yreaction curves.

A number of tests have been carried out in the last few years at the LCPC centrifuge facility to study the behaviour of laterally loaded piles. This paper presents a centrifuge test programme of lateral cyclic loading of a single pile in sand. In these tests, the pile head fixity is free and the pile is eccentrically loaded since the point of load application is above soil surface (2.2 times the pile diameter). The experimental set up, the data acquisition and the processing techniques are described. Analyses are focused on the influence of cycles on the soil-pile interaction, on the pile head displacements, on the bending moments and on the P-y reaction curves.

A polyclonal antibody raised against allatostatin-3 of Blattella germanica (BLAST-3) has been used to immunolocalize allatostatin-like peptides in the brain-retrocerebral complex of Labidura riparia adult females. Strongly stained immunoreactive cells are observed in the pars intercerebralis (14 cells) and mainly in the pars lateralis (32 cells). Fibres leading to the corpus allatum are also stained. In the deutocerebrum, one cell is immunostained at the root of each antennal nerve. In the tritocerebmm two cells in each brain hemisphere are weakly immunostained. During the reproductive cycle, these cells and their axons show immunoreactivity at previtellogenic, ovulation and ovarian arrest periods. During vitellogenesis, immunoreactivity is restricted to only four perikarya in the pars intercerebralis.When young vitellogenic females are injected with 20-hydroxyecdysone (20E), which inhibits vitellogenesis, full immunoreactivity reappears, suggesting sensibility of these cells to 20E as is expected for a negative feed-back loop (Sayah et al., 1995).These results show that BLAST-3-like material is produced periodically in Labidura in correlation with low levels of juvenile hormone and the absence of vitellogenesis. This study contributes to provide information on the degree of homology of allatostatins across various insects.

The efficacy of safety of naproxen sodium and ergotamine tartrate were compared for the treatment of acute migraine attack in a randomized, parallel trial with 114 participating patients. At the start of symptoms, patients took either three tablets of naproxen sodium (275 mg each) or one of an ergotamine combination (containing 2 mg ergotamine tartrate, 91.5 mg caffeine, and 50 mg cyclizine chlorohydrate). Patients were followed for three months or until six attacks were monitored, whichever came first. Both medications substantially shortened the duration of migraine attacks and reduced the severity of symptoms. When the test medications were taken within 2h of onset of attack, naproxen sodium was statistically significantly more effective than the ergotamine combination in reducing the severity of headache pain, nausea, and lightheadedness. The ergotamine combination was associated with significantly more vomiting, need for rescue medication, and side effects than was naproxen sodium. Four patients required discontinuation of the ergotamine combination and one of naproxen sodium. Both patients and investigators rated tolerance for naproxen sodium as superior to tolerance for the ergotamine combination. Naproxen sodium seems to be an effective and safe treatment for migraine attacks.
