Lesson study is recognised as a cultural activity and its implementation in a context different from Japan is a complex process. Researchers’ role in this process is assumed to be critical, although this has rarely been investigated. In this paper, we analyse a teaching experiment to introduce lesson studyinto a professional development course for prospective teachers at an Italian university, focusing our investigation on a group of researchers acting as teacher educators (didacticians). Using the anthropological theory of the didactic and meta-didactical transposition frameworks, we investigate their dual position as researchers and as teacher educators. We observe the evolution of the didacticians’ teacher-education praxeology (a model of practice and knowledge) during their interactions with prospective teachers. The results indicate that the didacticians’ teacher-education praxeology is distinguished, shaped, and actively influenced by their research praxeology. The results also imply that coordinating the two theoretical frameworks may guide the design and analysis of teachers’ professional development courses.

Telomeres, which consist of single-, double- and four-stranded DNA, shorten after each round of cell division. The repeated telomeric DNA sequence 5′-TTAGGG-3′ does not encode genetic information and is not replicated completely. We performed molecular dynamics (MD) simulations of telomeric single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) and protection of telomere 1 (POT1) for 100 ns. We calculated the distance between Cα(POT1) and O5’ (telomeric ssDNA) to verify the binding system for 100 ns MD. We then calculated the distance between the bases of the telomeric DNA ends and the root-mean-square deviation and gyration radius in the single and binding states. Moreover, we compared the root-mean-square fluctuations (RMSFs) between the single and binding states and calculated the number of hydrogen bonds between POT1 and telomeric DNA. There are many hydrogen bonds between Gln94 and the first guanine of the closest 5′-TTAGGG-3′ sequence in telomeric single-stranded DNA, and the RMSF between the single and binding states has a large difference between Gln94 and guanine. Overall, we found that Gln94 and guanine are important components of the binding system and are related to the stability of this system.

Dysplasia of the hip, the most common cause of secondary coxarthrosis, has a relatively high prevalence in Japan. Rotational acetabular osteotomy (RAO) is an interventional strategy that seeks to reduce the abnormal amount of high stress concentration in the acetabulum and thereby to prevent the development of coxarthrosis. Long-term clinical results have been reported, but functional evaluations of the gait before and after RAO are underreported. The aim of our recently initiated long-term prospective study is to assess the effect of RAO on the gait characteristics of patients using quantitative gait analysis. Thus far 22 patients (1 male, 21 females; mean age 30 years, range 15–43 years) have been enrolled, treated, and completed the preoperative and postoperative gait analyses. Hip pain during walking decreased in all patients after the RAO. The postoperative hip extension motion angle on the treated side increased significantly and correlated positively with the improvement in the Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) pain score. The current study shows that coxalgia and gait function improved after RAO.

The stability constants (β1NB(M)/mol-1dm3) of 1:1 complexes of M+(=Li+, Na+) with 1,3-bis(8-quinolyloxy)propane (IV), 1,4-bis(8-quinolyloxy)butane (V) and 3,3-bis[(7-methyl-8-quinolyloxy)methyl]oxetane (VI) were determined by ion-transfer polarography in water-saturated nitrobenzene (NB) at 25° C. Their logarithmic values were on the order of VI(4.6)< V(5.7)

m- and p Bis(diphenylene)propenylphenylacetylene (m-, p-8) were synthesized and polymerized with WCI6, MoCl5, and Rh catalyst, yielding solvent-soluble poly(phenylacetylene)s bearing a π-conjugated bis(di-phenylene)propenyl groups (m-, p-7a). The polymers gave their polyanion derivatives, which were electrolytically and chemically oxidized to yield the corresponding polyradicals (m-, p-7b). The polyradicals were chemically very stable due to the resonance stabilization of an unpaired electron whose spin concentration could be increased up to ca. 2 × 1023 spins per molar monomer unit. ESR spectroscopy suggested an antiferro-magnetic interaction between unpaired electrons.
