El tumor de células gigantes tenosinovial (TCGT) es una entidad localmente agresiva, que afecta a pacientes jóvenes (en torno a la 4.ª década de vida) y puede producir destrucción articular. Presenta 2 variedades, nodular y difusa, similares histológica y genéticamente, pero con diferente pronóstico. El objetivo de este estudio es identificar los factores predisponentes para el desarrollo de artrosis precoz y de recidiva local en estos pacientes.

Cada vez existen más programas de prevención e intervención sobre riesgos de internet. Sin embargo, la mayoría de ellos no tienen en cuenta la amplitud de los riesgos existentes tanto en el uso relacional como disfuncional de la tecnología. El principal objetivo de este estudio ha sido confirmar los indicadores de eficacia del programa de prevención multirriesgo de internet (Safety.net). Este programa, que consta de 16 sesiones (1 hora/sesión), promueve competencias generales para un adecuado uso de internet, y previene ocho riesgos: ciberacoso, sexteo, ciberembaucamiento, abuso online en la pareja, uso problemático de internet, nomofobia, trastorno por juego en internet y trastorno de apuestas online. Tiene un diseño instruccional en red para recordar los contenidos ya abordados a medida que avanza el programa. La muestra está formada por 726 adolescentes (54% chicas) entre 11- 14 años (M=12.11, DT=0.89). Para su evaluación se ha utilizado un diseño de medidas repetidas pre/post-test con un grupo de intervención (n=450) y un grupo de control (n=276). El grupo de intervención muestra mejoras significativas en comparación con el grupo de control en cibervictimización entre iguales y en la pareja, solicitación/interacción sexual con adultos, uso problemático de internet y nomofobia. Estos resultados sugieren que el programa Safety.net puede ser eficaz para prevenir el aumento de la mayoría de los riesgos de internet evaluados mediante un número reducido de sesiones. Se trata de una herramienta psicoeducativa potencial para integrar en los planes de acción tutorial.

There are increasingly more prevention and intervention programs concerning internet risks. However, most of them do not consider the breadth of the existing risks of both the relational and dysfunctional use of technology. The main objective of this study was to confirm the effectiveness indicators of the multi-risk internet prevention program (Safety.net). This program, consisting of 16 sessions (1 hour/session), promotes general skills for adequate internet use and prevents eight risks: cyberbullying, sexting, online grooming, cyber dating abuse, problematic internet use, nomophobia, internet gaming disorder, and online gambling. It has a networked instructional design to remember the contents already addressed as as the program progresses. The sample comprised 726 adolescents (54% girls) between 11-14 years (M= 12.11, SD= 0.89). For its evaluation, a pre/post-test repeated-measures design was used with an intervention group (n = 450) and a control group (n =276). The intervention group showed significant improvements compared to the control group in peer cybervictimization, cyber dating victimization, sexual solicitation/interaction with adults, problematic internet use, and nomophobia. These results suggest that the Safety.net program effectively prevents the increase of most internet risks assessed through a reduced number of sessions. This is a potential psychoeducational tool to be integrated into tutorial action plans.

Existe cierta contradicción en la literatura acerca del tumor primario que se asocia con más frecuencia a las acrometástasis, así como acerca de su pronóstico y tratamiento. El objetivo de nuestro trabajo es determinar la localización más frecuente de las acrometástasis, el tumor primario más frecuente según su localización y evaluar las opciones quirúrgicas en función de la supervivencia estimada.

A combined label-free and fluorescence surface optical technique was used to quantify the mass deposited in binary biomolecular coatings. These coatings were constituted by fibronectin (FN), to stimulate endothelialization, and phosphorylcholine (PRC), for its hemocompatibility, which are two properties of relevance for cardiovascular applications. One-dimensional photonic crystals sustaining a Bloch surface wave were used to characterize different FN/PRC coatings deposited by a combination of adsorption and grafting processes. In particular, the label-free results permitted to quantitatively assess the mass deposited in FN adsorbed (185 ng/cm2) and grafted (160 ng/cm2). PRC binding to grafted FN coatings was also quantified, showing a coverage as low as 10 and 12 ng/cm2for adsorbed and grafted PRC, respectively. Moreover, desorption of FN deposited by adsorption was detected and quantified upon the addition of PRC. The data obtained by the surface optical technique were complemented by water contact angle and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analyses. The results were in accordance with those obtained previously by qualitative and semiquantitative techniques (XPS, time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry) on several substrates (PTFE and stainless steel), confirming that grafted FN coatings show higher stability than those obtained by FN adsorption.

Purpose: The purpose of this research work is to propose an assessment framework to evaluate businesses in terms of the implementation of a green and lean organization’s supply chain. Design/methodology/approach: A conceptual framework was developed for the assessment of green and lean implementation. The framework was designed using key criteria to identify green and lean initiatives. This led to the development of guidelines for each criterion, and the development of a scoring method. A multiple case study of five different organizations in the automotive industry was conducted to validate the conceptual framework. Findings: The study reveals that high scores are derived from a good interaction between green and lean implementation in these companies. The results confirm that the initiatives considered in the conceptual framework were appropriate to represent the green and lean assessment framework. Research limitations/implications: The case study was developed in five organizations. Validation of the model is not based on quantitative techniques. The sample size is too small. More study is need in different industry sectors. Practical implications: The proposed model can be the basis for further research on green and lean concepts, contributing to the understanding of green and lean implementation. With this assessment method, managers can evaluate their business in relation to the implementation of green and lean supply chain initiatives. Originality/value: To the author’s knowledge, this paper is the first to provide an assessment framework to evaluate an organization’s supply chain in terms of green and lean implementation.

Elastic composite foams with anisotropic lamellar microstructures were formed by freeze-casting polyurethane dispersions with graphitic additives. This anisotropy resulted in orientation-dependent mechanical and thermal properties. Most importantly, the effective thermal conductivity can be reversibly transitioned between anisotropic and isotropic states by altering the thermal conductivity of the contained atmosphere.

This paper presents a supply chain disturbance management fuzzy decision support system model developed to support managers in their decision-making process of selecting the best operational policy (e.g., mitigation and/or contingency plans) to counter supply chain disturbances, thus improving supply chain resilience. The selection of such operational policies is based on the calculation of performance indexes that reflect the supply chain performance in different scenarios (e.g., normal operation, affected by disturbances, implementation of mitigation plans or implementation of contingency plans). The developed system lays on two pillars: first, on the use of fuzzy set theory to model the uncertainty associated with disturbances, their effects on the supply chain and the computation of the referred performance indexes ; second, on the simulation of the supply chain under the effect of disturbances or operational policies, by coupling the system with a simulation software.

Interest in supply chain disruptions and respective negative consequences has been growing in the last years and the topic is becoming a main stream. This paper aims to propose a model for supply chain resilience management. An inductive theory building approach is used; being identified patterns of management across companies to build a theoretical and testable supply chain resilience model. To this end, content analysis of archival information on 77 companies affected by the Japan earthquake 2011 was used to identify the negative consequences of this event and the patterns of response practices used by companies to avoid or overcome those negative effects. The main conclusions of the study are that despite the earthquake provoked several negative effects, the companies failed to sustain their operations because capacity shortages and material shortages. These failures characterise the earthquake negative effects on supply chain.

This paper proposes a composite index, called the ‘AR index’, to assess the agility and resilience of automotive companies and their respective supply chains. As a first step, a model to support the AR index is developed. Next, an AR index for the automotive supply chain is suggested using a set of relevant agile and resilient supply chain practices. The Delphi technique was used to obtain a series of weights for those practices. Finally, a case study approach is used to illustrate the application of the AR index. This study represents an original approach that suggests a unique composite indicator for the agile and resilient paradigms in the context of automotive supply chains.

Performance measures of supply chain have been investigated through recent scholar works and different tools have been proposed to follow, monitor, and analyse them. This research addresses the embedded uncertainty as well as mutual dependency among supply chain performance measures and proposes employing Bayesian network (BN) to monitor them. BN has been successfully used in related areas, however, in this particular context it is lacking in published literature. In addition, a framework is proposed to provide researchers and practitioners with step by step procedure of developing BN to monitor the performance measures of their supply chain. Finally, a case study is presented, which takes advantage of proposed methodology and follows the framework.

The purpose of this paper is to establish links between supply chain disturbances and corresponding strategies of resilience to counter them. To this end, an inductive research approach is used, examining a sample of 38 cases. Secondary data from the cases is used to identify disturbances which affected the corresponding supply chains and the resilience strategies used by managers. The empirical evidences shows that the negative effects of supply chain disturbances can be categorised into a number of supply chain failure modes. In addition, a set of resilience strategies was identified that could be used to overcome those failure modes. A conceptual model, with links between supply chain disturbances, failures and resilience strategies, is proposed. The limitations of this research result from the use of secondary data sources. The findings are only valid for the selected case studies and, consequently, may not be applicable in other scenarios. Future research should focus on detailed case studies that investigate cross-functional applications across the organisation and the supply chain.

Supply chains (SCs) may experience instability induced by disturbances such as extreme climate conditions or accidents. These events can cause severe negative effects on SCs, jeopardising the on-time delivery of products and services to customers. This paper proposes a mapping framework to improve SC resilience to such events, avoiding possible failure modes. The proposed mapping framework allows identification of the current SC operation and possible transition states, together with points of vulnerability. An illustrative example of the framework applied to a real-life wine SC is presented.

A fuzzy expert system methodology is proposed, based on the combination of bow-tie diagrams and fuzzy set theory. It was designed to support the management of supply-chain (SC) disturbances. Such disturbances are understood as risks to the SC. This methodology includes a phased process starting with the analysis of potential disturbances using cause-and-effect diagrams, followed by a bow-tie analysis relating disturbances, causes, barriers and consequences, used to derive fuzzy rules applied in the SC risk assessment, and ending with advice on mitigating measures to control the consequences of disturbances. The evaluation of the methodology based on scenarios offered promising results about its capabilities.

Green and lean paradigms have been adopted in a supply chain management context, but nearly always separately and with little understanding of their influence on supply chain performance and sustainable business development. This paper proposes a theoretical framework about the influence of green and lean practices on sustainable business development in a supply chain context. Green and lean upstream supply chain practices, supply chain attributes and a performance measurement system, based on the balanced scorecard, are suggested. An exploratory case study was conducted at a Portuguese automotive supply chain to test qualitatively the validity of the proposed theoretical framework.

Supply chain management (SCM) is crucial for increasing organisational effectiveness, enhancing competitiveness, customer service and profitability. Actually, the lean and green philosophies have been adopted in the SCM context, but nearly always separately and with little understanding of their influence on supply chain performance. Accordingly, this paper intends to propose a conceptual model that explores the relationships between lean and green practices and supply chain performance. A set of lean and green SCM practices and a performance measurement system are suggested. The proposed performance measures intend to evaluate the practices influence on operational, economic and environmental supply chain's performance.

The fluorescence of pyrene, a hydrophobic probe, was investigated in binary mixtures comprising a nonprotic [acetonitrile, N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF), dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), and tetrahydrofurane (THF)] and a protic (water, methanol, ethanol, propan-2-ol, and butan-1-ol) solvent. The variation in I/III values, the intensity ratios between the first and third bands in vibronic fine structures of the emission spectra, along with the variation in the more polar component was studied for each binary mixture. A preferential solvation (PS) model was adapted from the literature and successfully applied to the experimental data. In the mixtures containing acetonitrile, pyrene is always preferentially solvated by the nonprotic component. However, the extent of PS by acetonitrile diminishes with a decrease in the polarity of the protic cosolvent. These results were explained by the fact that pyrene is a highly hydrophobic probe. Thus, a replacement of the more polar protic cosolvent for one which is more hydrophobic may lead to a comparatively stronger interaction of the probe with the cosolvent through hydrophobic interactions. Synergism was observed for binary mixtures comprising THF and the studied alcohols, for DMSO with water and methanol, and for DMF with water. Finally, D2O−DMF and D2O−DMSO mixtures were studied and compared with the corresponding H2O mixtures. It was verified that the extent of PS in both cases is diminished if water is replaced by deuterium oxide. All data were interpreted in terms of solute−solvent and solvent−solvent interactions.

Triazine resistant Brassica napus ssp. oleifera and ssp. rapifera were hybridized to cultivars of B. oleracea ssp. italica, ssp. botrytis, ssp. capitata and ssp. fimbriata. The interspecific embryos did not survive in vivo but could be rescued in vitro using a culture medium developed by Monnier (1973). The embryos did not grow directly into normal plants but were successfully regenerated using the protocol developed by Keller (1984). Hybridization efficiency ranged from 0 to 2.64 hybrids per pollination. Interspecific embryo abortion may be related to abnormal endosperm development.

Summary The objective of this study was to investigate the response to selection for chip colour after harvest (CH), storage at 12.8°C (CR) and at 3°C (CC) in three hybrid populations. Population 1 was derived from crossing ND860-2 (cold chipper) with F58089 (regular chipper), Population 2 was obtained from crossing ND860-2 with Russette (nonchipper), and Population 3 was derived from crossing Russette with F58089. Eighty-five to ninety-six random clones for each population plus ten check cultivars were planted in 1991 at two locations in East Canada. For CH, Population 3 had the highest predicted gain. No genetic variation for this trait was detected in Population 1. The potential genetic advance by selection within Population 1, as measured by the predicted mean of the selected clones, however, was similar to the others because Population 1 has a higher mean. For CR, Populations 2 and 3 had similar expected response estimates. Population 1 had no genetic variation for CR but showed similar potential advance to Population 2 and higher than Population 3. For CC, Population 2 had the highest predicted gain. The predicted means of selected clones of Populations 1 and 2 were higher than that of Population 3. Consequently, Populations 1 and 2 had greater potential for improvement for CC than Population 3.

Atrazine resistant Brassica napus × B. oleracea F1 hybrids were backcrossed to both parental species. The backcrosses to B. napus produced seeds in both directions but results were much better when the F1 hybrid was the pollen parent. Backcrosses to B. oleracea failed completely but BC1s were rescued by embryo culture both from a tetraploid hybrid (2n = 4x = 37; A1C1CC) and sesquidiploid hybrids (2n = 3x = 8; A1C1C). Progeny of crosses between the tetraploid hybrid and B. oleracea had between 25 and 28 chromosomes. That of crosses between the sesquidiploid hybrid and B. oleracea had between 21 and 27. A few plants that had chromosome counts outside the expected range may have originated from either diploid parthenogenesis, unreduced gametes or spontaneous chromosome doubling during in vitro culture. Pollen stainability of the BC1s ranged from 0% to 91.5%. All the BC1s to B. oleracea were resistant to atrazine.

F1 hybrids of triazine resistant Brassica napus and triazine susceptible B. oleracea were morphologically intermediate to the parent species. Of 49 hybrids examined, 44 had 28 chromosomes, two had 37, one had 38 and two had 56. The 38-chromosome plant was thought to be a matromorph, the others, A1C1C (28), A1C1CC (37) or A1A1C1C1CC (56) type hybrids. Pollen stainability averaged 9.0% in the sesquidiploid, 32.0% in the tetraploids and 89.5% in the hexaploids. All the interspecific hybrids were resistant to 1.0×10-4 mol L-1 atrazine. The sesquidiploid hybrids produced gametes with chromosome numbers ranging from 9 to 17 and the tetraploid hybrid gametes had chromosome numbers from 15 to 22. Most hybrids produced self-seed. The partial fertility of these hybrids may permit their backcrossing to one or both parents.

Abstract: The effect of an 8 h light/day or total darkness photoperiod on thein vitro microtuberization of cultivars “Red Pontiac”, “Shepody”, “Kennebec” and “Yukon Gold” was investigated using a medium consisting of Murashige and Skoog salts, vitamins, high sucrose and high benzylamino purine levels and cultured at 16°C for 12 weeks. Percent tuberization of the singlenode leaf cuttings averaged over all 4 cultivars was initially lower, with the 8 h photoperiod at 4 weeks, but later was similar to the total darkness photoperiod at 8 and 12 weeks. Microtubers from all cultivars had a higher mean fresh weight when treated with an 8 h photoperiod as compared with total darkness, though the difference was not significant with “Yukon Gold.” ldRed Pontiac” and “Shepody” produced microtubers that were well over twice the fresh weight of those produced in the total darkness treatment. Delayed leaf senescence, microtuber greening, and nodal rooting were evident with the 8 h light treatment.

Eight triazine resistant (Brassica napus x B. oleracea) ? x B. oleracea ? interspecific hybrids with chromosome numbers ranging from 25 to 27 were backcrossed a second time to B. oleracea but no seed was formed. However, in vitro embryo rescue on 77 developing ovules yielded nine BC2 plants with chromosome numbers between 19 and 25 and in which the herbicide resistance was still strongly expressed. Three of these plants (NOH-8B2B1, 2n=20; NOH-8B2B3 and NOH-8B2B4, 2n=19) were backcrossed again to B. oleracea. Two of the three plants produced seed which germinated to produce triazine resistan BBC3s with 18, 19 or 20 chromosomes. The triazine resistant B. campestris cytoplasm has now been stabilized in B. oleracea.

Progenies from crosses of ND860-2, a low reducing sugar clone, with two potato cultivars (Trent and Onaway), differing in reducing sugar content, as well as the progenies of the parents selfed, were examined for reducing sugar content. Tubers were assessed after storage at 12 C for 10 weeks (regular storage) and 4 C for 10 weeks followed by reconditioning at 20 C for two weeks (reconditioning). After regular storage, all seedling progenies had relatively high frequencies of low reducing sugar segregates (i.e., equal or less than those of ND860-2 clone). After reconditioning, a high frequency of seedlings with low reducing sugars was observed in the progeny from ND860-2/Trent (46.7%), however, they were also found in the progeny from ND860-2/Onaway (6.7%). Results of this study suggested that progenies from crosses involving ND860-2 would segregate for low reducing sugar content regardless the reducing sugar level of the other parent.

The objectives of this study were to examine the expected response to selection for reducing-sugar content after cold storage in three hybrid populations, to determine whether these populations included clones low in reducing sugars, and to investigate the effectiveness of indirect selection for chip colour based on selection of sugar content after cold storage. The three hybrid populations included: a random sample of 39 clones of Population 1, which was derived from crossing ND860-2 (a clone low in reducing sugars) with F58089 (a clone intermediate in reducing sugars); 40 clones of Population 2, which was obtained from crossing ND860-2 with Russette (a clone high in reducing sugars); and 40 clones of Population 3, which was derived from crossing Russette with F58089. Sugar content and chip colour were assessed in tubers stored for 2 months at 4 °C at Cambridge, Ontario, and at 3 °C at Benton Ridge, New Brunswick. Population 1 had a slightly greater predicted response to selection for reduction in glucose and total reducing sugars than the other two populations. This could be attributed to higher heritability estimates for Population 1, which was a reflection of smaller clone × environment interaction mean squares. The greater potential advance by selection for fructose, glucose, and total reducing sugars, was a direct consequence of its lower means for these traits. Low reducing-sugar clones were found in all three populations, indicating their potential use for the selection of low reducing sugars. Populations 2 and 3, however, would require stronger selection pressures and, therefore, large population sizes. Expected correlated responses for chip colour by selection for fructose and glucose were similar to, and sometimes exceeded, the expected direct responses in all three populations. Indirect responses for chip colour by selection for sucrose, however, were lower than direct selection responses. These results indicate that indirect selection for chip colour, by selection for either fructose or glucose content after cold storage, is as effective as direct selection for chip colour.
